I was relieved as I finally walked out of my last class, successfully making it through my first day back. Becca had texted me earlier to meet them all at the quad once I was done in my last class. I walked across campus until I saw them and joined them on the bench that they were sitting on. We all began to talk about our classes for a while instead of going back up to our dorms to start any work we were given like we should be doing.
Liz started talking about how the boy she got paired up with for that project was really cute and really nice and he invited her to sit with him at lunch today. I felt somewhat obligated to say something about Harry, but I didn’t feel I needed to; I didn’t want them to get false assumptions. My friends brought up a few cute boys that they had in their classes, but they actually talked about the teachers and everything, which I was pretty content with.
“Should we head back to the dorms now?” Liz suggested after we’d been sitting on the bunches for about forty-five minutes now.
“No, the view here is a whole lot better,” Becca said and I knew he well enough to know that she was talking about a pair of boys who were sitting on a bench thirty feet away, staring at her.
“Ooh, I want one so bad,” she said.
“They’re not puppies,” Liz told her.
“Come on,” she said,
“Let’s go talk to them, they’re really cute,” she exclaimed.
I will admit they were pretty cute, but none of us really wanted to encourage her since we wanted to get back to the dorms.
“Let’s go, Becca,” Christina said as she rolled her eyes and laughed at her.
While Liz and Christina enjoyed having the boys here, no one was more boy obsessed then Becca.
“So Nicole,” Becca said as she walked up to me while we walked back to our building. I looked at her and waited for her to continue speaking,
“I saw you sitting with a boy at lunch today,” she said, and Christina and Liz instantly started to pay attention to the conversation.
“Oh really? She was?” Liz said.
“Don’t make a big deal of it, we were just working on a project,” I told them.
“Is he cute? What’s his name?” Christina asked.
“Harry,” was all I answered, although I hadn’t been sure if I even wanted to tell him that much, I didn’t want them to turn it into something that it wasn’t.
I didn’t even want to be partnered up with him, but I was so I had to finish this project with him.
“Oh I know who he is, he’s pretty hot,” Becca said.
“I heard he’s like a bad boy though,” Christina added.
“From who?” I asked before I could stop myself. “I don’t know, but it’s pretty obvious though, I mean have you seen what he’s wearing?”
“I have him in my calculus class and he’s already on the teacher’s bad side for talking out of term and giving him smart sarcastic responses,”
I wasn’t really listening to who was saying what, I was now dreading having him as a partner even more. I didn’t want to have to work with a troublemaker and someone who doesn’t seem to have a damn about anything.
“I’m not doing this project with him by choice,” I told them after a few moments, but by then they were already changing the topic of conversation to something else.
When we got back to our room, we all sat on the floor and took out all the papers we received, and began to go over everything. As always it wasn’t easy to keep Becca on topic, but it was easier to get her back on track now that she is determined to get all A’s this year, or at least that as a majority.
It felt nice to hang out with my friends like I normally did as we read through each of the syllabus’ we were giving and laughed at some of the things that all teachers put on there and never followed through with before we actually started on our work.
I had been starting to regret telling her that I had never been to boarding school before. I should’ve just not asked about breakfast and found someone else to answer my question. I could’ve just pretended I was like everyone else here and have been in boarding schools since elementary ended. Telling her that it was either this or military school didn’t make it any better since she didn’t take it as a joke as I intended her too since I did.
It doesn’t matter anyway, I’m just going to get this stupid project that I have with her done and then probably never talk to her again, only in the classes we had together. I was beginning to get bored in my last few classes so I started making sarcastic remarks to one of my teachers, hoping to get a laugh out of the other students in the class. I heard a few chuckles and snickers, but they stopped as quick as they started.
These people really did need to lighten up when they were in class. Most of the students were two completely different people in and out of class. Which I didn’t understand, why should you pretend to be something you’re not in fear of getting scolded. The teacher isn’t going to remember what you did the next day; he has a tone of other students.
I rolled my eyes at this school in general as I had walked out of my last class. I received a few glares from my fellow classmates but I brushed them off, I knew none of them were going to bother to say anything to me about it; they’re just going to think that a nasty look is going to bother me.
After lunch, I walked back across campus so I could get to my dorm room where my roommates were. They were the few people here that I could actually stand, besides them, I basically saw every here as stuck up prudes because most of them were.
The guys in my dorm were serious when it came to their grade, which was different from my attitude towards schoolwork, but they also knew how to have some fun. I did promise my mom that I would work on improving my grade so maybe sharing a room with them wouldn’t be so bad. I approached the building and I headed up on the elevator to the second floor and walked down the hall until I found my room.
I tried the doorknob before getting my key out and sure enough, the door was already unlocked since at least one of them was back already. I hadn’t seen any of them at lunch since I had gotten there late so I wasn’t able to walk back to the dorm with one of them. I turned the doorknob to open the door, and I saw Liam sitting down at one of the desks looking over a piece of paper.
“You know I really hate these worksheets that teachers give us so they can ‘learn more about us,’” he said sarcastically with air quotes as I walked into the room and closed the door behind me.
“I don’t even think most of them care, it’s just a way for them to give us some type of work on the first day since they really couldn’t teach us anything today,” I heard another voice say, and I saw Louis walking out of the bathroom, startling me a little since I didn’t know that he was here.
Louis began to take some papers out of his folder, so I decided to take both out all the worksheets and assignments that I had been given today too and went to sit down with Liam. Their papers were neat and stacked while mine were all creased and torn a little since I had shoved them into my pocket. A few minutes later Niall came into the room and we all went through the work sheets, probably not answering all the questions as seriously as we should.
“Well I have everything done except for that project in my economics class,” I said.
“Oh yeah, I forgot about that. The girl I got partnered up with is pretty hot,” Liam said.
“Who’d you get partnered up with, Harry?”
“Nicole,” I answered. “I don’t think I know her,” he told me.
“Yeah I don’t think she’s much of a socializer,” I said to him.
“Is she at least hot?” Louis asked me.
“She’s okay,” I shrugged, not putting too much thought into it.
They just nodded and then Liam went back to talking about who he was partnered up with and then telling Niall and Louis what he had to do for the project.
