Girls Without Hope

Harriet Stoaks is 13 years old. She had a lovely life... until one day she had to move to the other side of the country.

1. Chapter 1

Well, I think it’s safe to say that my life is officially over. I was pretending to have a shower while contentedly reading my ‘Puppies and Kittens’ magazine when my mum burst into the bathroom unexpectedly with an uncontrollable grin on her face. I thought to myself ‘knock, woman!’ trying to hide my embarrassed expression, I had been caught red-handed. I mean, who just walks in on you like that? That’s just a bit odd, if you ask me. Anyway, I assumed my mum needed the toilet really badly, as she was now doing a funny dance. I finally asked her,
“Mum, why are you dancing like a mad-woman? And why do you have an insane grin on your face?” She was so eager to answer that she blurted it out before I even finished my sentence. And then, I heard the two words that possibly ruined my life.
“We’re moving!” I just stood there, shocked at what my mum had just said.
“Mum! You love this house, you always have done! Why are we moving now?” Mum just smiled, and replied,
“Your Dad’s got a fantastic job offer. They want him to work in The Cashmere, the most posh restaurant in Europe! Isn’t that exciting?” My mouth drooped open like a big O.
“The Cashmere? But that’s on the other side of England!” Mum smiled once more, nodded, and walked out of the bathroom. I sat on the edge of the toilet seat, trying to take it all in. I kept trying to convince myself that it wasn’t happening, that it was all a dream. But it was very much real. At that very moment, I thought of something else… school.
