"I saw how smart she was. Her hand was up all the time and she was very quiet. But she was still dumb enough to not know when she was being used."

Luke Hemmings was the new boy in town who was still trying to keep up with drama, stereotypes, and cliques of his high school. He's got his fair share of friends and knows the basics. He may even know more than most about the towns people - except the towns reality show of a family the Kingstone's.

Emmanuelle Kingstone is different than other girls in her town. She is the know-it-all girl who sits straight with her hand ready to raise at a moments notice. She doesn't seem to care about getting the next best sports scholarship or what party is going on that weekend. Though she does still tend to crack under pressure.

Emmanuelle and Luke seems to be the only ones who don't know about a big piece of the towns history, the 'winter wonderland' of 2010. While Luke tried o keep up with this project and slove the puzzle that is Emmanuelle Kingstone he is in for a few surprises. But does this know-it-all know anything at all?

"I can't believe someone tried to cheat on you again" Nela laughed.

Nela and I were currently alone in the girls bathroom. Which was pretty surprising because the girls were usually always with us. Though I can't really blame them Nela is an amazing friend.

She was currently facing the mirror pulling her hair up into another high pony tail. There was never anything wrong with the one she puts up in the morning but she always needs to 'fix' it before afternoon classes. I liked it better when she did her hair alone because when the others are with her I can barely breath due to the oxygen to hairspray ratio being a good 1:10.

"Who was it this time?" She asked.

Nela dropped her hair and quickly spun to face me instead of the mirror. Her eyes were wide and her fingers had wondered to her silver bracelet that she always fiddled with when she was nervous.

"Sorry who?" She asked again. She seemed pretty on edge.

"Luke?" I said cautiously.

"Oh," Nela chuckled and put her hands back up to her hair. "I thought you'd said Duke. I thought I was going to have to kill him."

I gave a small smile and chuckled. "He's not even in my class don't worry about him."

Clayton Duke was Nela's boyfriend. He was an okay guy, he didn't know my name. He would call me King every once in a while when he remembered most of my last name. He calls me King so it's only right I call him Duke. He may not be too friendly with me but be was really in love with Nela and she loved him to a degree I don't think I would ever understand. The only problem was his strengths were defiantly not in school. He was always finding new ways to ditch and cheat. His grades were dropping every minute and Nela was trying her best to keep him a float.

Nela had finished putting her hair back into another high pony tail and she now pressed down her skirt and picked a piece of lint off her shirt. "Ready?" She started to walk to the door but I put my hand on it to stop her.

"Wait Nela," I said after she took a step back. "Can I ask you a question?" I was now rubbing my left thumb nail. It was a nervous habit I had somehow picked up. I continued after Nela had nodded. "Kate likes me, right? I mean like she doesn't hate me?"

"Of course she doesn't hate you Em! How could she ever hate you. I think she is just stressed since the freshman aren't taking practices seriously and our rival game is tuesday." Her smile was tight and seemed a bit forced. "Now come on. The bell is going to ring soon and I don't know about you but I cannot get another tardy for Mr. Pomfred."

I shut my locker and closed my lock. The halls were currently loud and students were everywhere. The final bell had rung about two minutes before and the students were trying there best to get out of there first. More kids started to yell and jump over each other. Running down the hall and in the prosses not looking where they were going. Which resulted in me being nocked into four or five times.

I turned and tried to walk down the halls as fast as I could with out being as destructive as everyone else was. These were the times I hated being short. Sure even if I was tall people may still bump into me but at least it wouldn't be like they were trying to take me down.

"Emmanuelle! Wait up!" I could hear Kate just a second before she grabbed my forearm and quickly pulled me into the door way of an abandoned class room. "God are you trying to win a marathon or something. That hurt my wrist."

"Sorry," I said embarrassed. My cheeks heated up instantly. "Was there something you needed?"

There was a hopeful feeling in my gut that she was going to ask me to hang out at her house tomorrow with some of the girls or invite me to that sleepover Nela is so excited about. Nela was always right and she had said that Kate didn't hate me. So maybe I could start to appreciate what she has been doing for me more.

"Yes actually. I needed those notes Mr. Miller gave out a few days ago. I wasn't really paying attention. I'm not a huge fan of math anyways but since Jacob - you know the new hockey play? Blonde hair? Green eyed? Supper cute! - since he came to the class he is always joking around and distracting the little attention I had for the class. Of course only now did I realize there is a test tomorrow so I kinda need to notes. Like now."

I quickly tried to get the notes out of my math binder without messing up all the papers. The halls may be cleared now but it would still be a complete travesty trying to get pick them all up and put them in the correct order agin. I pulled out the notes and handed them to her with a bright smile. "Here you go."

She gave a small smile and quickly folded it and placed it between two of her binders. Then walked away. "Good luck!" I yelled but she probably didn't hear me because she kept walking.

She better not loose those. Or fold them more - cringe.

I soon followed in Kate's foot steps and walked down the hall and to the exit. It was pretty windy out now and looked like it was going to rain. I waved to Nela as I past the turf field where she was practicing with her team.

Soon I reached the path along the woods that would lead me back to my street. The wind brought up the autumn leaves that had recently started to fall from the branches. Many people may think the woods where a scary place but my woods gave me comfort and they were nothing like in horror movies. Though I don't think I would want to get lost in them.

I turned the corner of the path and walked in the peaceful silence. Everything was calm and the wind wasn't too noticeable now that I was in the woods and surrounded by trees. Then I heard a bird. It sounded so close and beautiful. So when I looked and saw it was even better looking I was so captivated I didn't realize someone else had come up behind me until they tapped my shoulder.

Instantly I screamed a top-of-my-lungs-bloody-murder kind of scream. I quickly whipped around while stumbling away from the intruder and falling off the path.

"Woah! Take it easy!" The boy who tapped my shoulder said. He took a few steps towards me and out stretched his hand in an offer to help me up.

Now that he was so close I could tell it was Luke. His blue eyes were wide and his blonde hair had been rustled by the wind and stuck out in a fee places. That made me wonder when mine looked like. That was one of the most embarrassing experiences I'd had in a while. Now I've had my fair share of embarrassment but mostly it was in front of Nela or the girls so it wasn't as bad as in front if someone I had never had a proper conversation with.

"You alright?" Luke asked once I was standing up and had dusted the leaves and dirt off my pants. "Sorry I just wanted to apologize for attempting to cheat off you in Ms.'s class. I just don't have time to get to detention today so I hoped if I apologized you'd be able to tell her and she wouldn't be too harsh on me? You're her favorite student so I didn't think it would be too hard."

In all honesty I thought he was being completely rude and if anything he should be giving me the favor. He tried to use me not the other way around. Nevertheless he said sorry so I smiled and nodded my head.

"Sure I don't see why I can't. Apology accepted."

"Alright thanks. I actually have to go but I'll see you in class tomorrow, um..." He gave me a grimace of a smile in question.

"Um... Emmanuelle?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Um yah that. Okay see you tomorrow."

With that we both turned away from each other and I don't know about him - but I was shaking my head almost the rest of the walk.

EYYY! Okay I said Monday so Monday it is! I think because I was late I'll try and post on Saturday this week. I'm actually going to the Massachusetts regional Science fair as well that day! So I'll probably edit between judging or before it starts. I can't wait till this story really gets started hopefully once it's in full swing people may acctually like it lol.
