The two weeks were already up, I was starting a new school. I was nervous as hell; what if nobody liked me? What if I made a complete fool of myself? Let's just say it was early in the morning, I'd never been a morning person. I couldn't tell if I was looking forward to school, or if I was dreading it. It's never easy to be the new girl. Senior year, wow next thing I knew I'd be going to college; but college meant I would have to work hard and focus on school now, so I decided that was what I wanted to do. I showered, put on the school uniform, dried my hair and straightened it for the first time in a year, I'd almost forgotten what it looked like. I then put on some mascara to bring out my silver grey eyes, a little bit of blush and finished it off with at tinted lip balm. "Bye sweetheart have a good day in school" my yelled after me; I just waved my hand. I headed outside around eight and waited for the school bus to arrive. My heart was pounding and my stomach was all fluttery.
The school bus came and I was on my way to Norwest Christian College. I was beginning to feel like throwing up when the bus arrived at the school. I walked inside; the hallway was intimidating, all those new faces looking at me. The bell had already rung so I quickly made my way to the head office. "Hi I'm here for my schedule and introduction. I'm the new girl" I smiled; a short woman stood behind a desk, looking at me. "Hello, you must be Zelda Carman then? Welcome to our school" she said and came around from the desk. "I'll lead you to your locker, here's your schedule and I'll follow you to the first class on your schedule" the woman lead me into the hallway, almost at the end of it she pointed at a locker I assumed was mine. She gave me the combination for it; my books were already there so I looked at the schedule to see which class I had and grabbed the books I needed. The first class was English; I'd always loved that subject. But the subject I was most interested in was music. The woman from the office lead me to the classroom I was going to be in. I stood behind her as she knocked on the closed door and opened it.
School had started again and I was sitting in class with Michael and Calum. Ashton wasn't there as he went to another school. The first subject of the day was English; it was alright but I'd rather play music. There was a knock on the classroom door and then it opened. Mrs. Price from the head office stuck in her head "Hi I'm here with the new girl" our teacher Mr. Callahan nodded and she came into the room; behind her was a girl and she looked kind of familiar. My heart started beating fast, it was Lexa! The girl we had met in front of my house. "Okay class, so today we have a new girl starting. Come on don't be shy..." Our teacher said "Zelda Carman, welcome to our school please take a seat over there" our teacher walked over to her and lead her to an empty seat in front of Calum, Michael and I. She looked down and took a seat. Calum poked my arm "Hey do we know her?", I nodded "Yeah Lexa.. But I guess her real name is Zelda.." I shrugged. "Her name is so cool, just like the game" Michael whispered. Why hadn't she told us her real name?
When I walked to the empty chair I saw three familiar faces; Luke, Calum and Michael. I quickly wondered over their faces and looked down. I sat down and opened the book they were talking about. It was nice to see people I'd seen before. The day went on and it was finally lunch time. I didn't know where to sit and eat so I ended up asking the head office if I could borrow the music room to practise in. I got the keys and the woman who had followed me to class; Mrs Price showed me the way to the music room. "Thank you, I'll return the key when I'm done" I said unlocking the door, she smiled and walked away. I walked into the room; it wasn't big but it wasn't small either, it had a drum kit, some guitars and basses, two keyboards and one grand piano. I sat down at the grand piano, I looked at it; it reminded me of the grand piano we had in our old house back in London.
I started playing some different things. Maybe I could practise my singing and piano playing a bit? I decided to do a piano version of Dolly Parton's Jolene. The intro started softly; "Jolene, jolene, jolene, joleeeeeeneee, I'm begging of you please don't take my man. Your beauty is beyond compare, With flaming locks of auburn hair, With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green, Your smile is like a breath of spring, Your voice is soft like summer rain, And I cannot compete with you, Jolene He talks about you in his sleep, There's nothing I can do to keep From crying when he calls your name, Jolene..." I poured my heart out, I hadn't sung like this in what seemed like forever.
