Mabel and Dipper entered a darkened room. "What is this place?"
Dipper tripped over a stray pot in his way. "My guess is the kitchen." He picked himself up and dusted himself off, before setting the pot in the sink.
He looked over and saw Mabel looking through drawers and cabinets. "What are you doing?!" he hissed softly.
"Looking for extra food. Think they'll have ice cream? They'll probably have ice cream."
"We don't have time for ice cream, Mabes. Let's just find Danielle and Daniel, okay?"
She frowned at him. "Fine." She left, pouting, and Dipper followed. Neither saw a particular chicken eye them cautiously before stepping inside the kitchen herself.
"This is boooring. Can't we go now?" Mabel whined.
"No. This i- Did you hear that?"
"What? No, and I-"
Dipper pressed a finger against her mouth. "Listen," he urged.
There was a faint noise coming from inside a room. Mabel's brown eyes widened when she finally heard it. Dipper removed his finger from her mouth and took cautious step towards the room's door. He placed a hand on the knob, but he was halted by his sister.
"Dipper. What are you doing?" she whispered.
"I'm going to see what the noise is."
"What if it's dangerous?"
"Gideon was dangerous, and we beat him."
"He was also nine," Mabel countered.
"He also had magic on his side. Face it, Mabel. We are a strong team, and not just anything is going to plow us down." He paused. “C’mon. Mystery twins?”
She was silent a moment before she spoke again, "Okay, let's do it."
Dipper opened the door, wincing as it squeaked on its hinges.
It didn't take long for the twins to realize they were standing in a restroom. A really rundown restroom.
"Ew," cried Mabel when she stepped in either melted ice cream or vomit. She couldn't tell which in the dim lighting, but she was really hoping it wasn't the latter.
A stall unlocked; something - no, someone - emerged.
"Daniel!" Mabel squealed.
"Where's Danielle?" Dipper implored.
Daniel shrugged. "I don't know. I scared her, and she ran. I've been waiting here in case she comes back. She hasn’t come back yet though."
"We'll find her. Just stick close."
"Yeah," Mabel said, "this place gets creepy at night."
Oh, she didn't even know the half of it.
