I woke up when someone grabbed my chin.
"Hey, wake up, gorgeous," Calum whispered.
He knows better than to wake me up from a peaceful sleep.
I kept my eyes closed and turned away.
I felt his lips on my shoulder.
"Wake up," He said softly.
I refuse to wake this early.
My phone vibrated in my lap.
I felt Calum take it, I didn't bother reacting, he probably can't guess my passcode. Plus I have nothing to hide from him.
"Helen, wake up or else we'll leave you on the plane," Calum said.
I drifted my eyes open and turned to look at him.
"What. Do. You. Want?" I asked sternly.
I was pissed.
"Mate, you should't have woken her up. You know that Luke and her aren't morning people," Michael said.
"Yea, Calum, you can learn something from Michael," I said. "Gimme that." I snatched my phone from his hands.
He gave me puppy dog look.
Even the most heartless person fall for those beautiful eyes.
I groaned, "Ugh, I'm sorry."
"I hate when you do that," I said.
"No, you love it," He said cheekly.
I glared at him and he pressed his lips against my mine.
"Okay, when you're done tasting each other's saliva, can you wake Luke up?" Ashton said.
I pulled away and leaned forward.
Luke had his headphones on and his eyes where closed.
I poked his head.
"Luke," I said.
Nothing. Of course, he's a heavy sleeper.
I lightly slapped his cheek, "Luke," I said louder.
I opened one of his eye lids with my finger, I could barely see his iris'.
I looked out the window, the city of L.A stretched out below us.
I could practically feel the hot weather. The weather that fell over the city everyday.
"It feels like I never left," I said.
"What?" Calum asked.
"I said, it feels like I never left," I repeated.
"I'm glad you did, otherwise we would have never met," He said.
I snorted and attempted to wake Luke up once again.
I pulled out his right earbud.
"Luke," I said into his ear.
He swatted my face.
"Shit mate," I mumbled and rubbed my nose.
I shook his shoulder and started flicking his cheek.
"Luke, wake up!" I said.
"What?" He groaned.
"Wake up, we're about to land," I said again.
He rubbed his eyes, "Ugh."
Thirty minutes later we all stood up and were heading for the plane's door.
I stepped out onto the familiar concrete and took a deep breath.
"It's so hot," Michael said.
"Yea, can't believe you handled this weather for 8 years, Helen," Luke said.
"You get used to it," I explained.
I checked my phone. I had a text from my dad.
Dad: I'm picking you up from he airport. I'm at the lobby
"C'mon, Dad is waiting for us," I said.
"Wait, dad is picking us up?" Luke asked,
"yea," I replied.
Oh right, Luke hasn't seen dad in almost 9 years.
"Don't worry, Lukey, he won't treat you like an outcast," I said.
He smiled slyly.
We went into LAX to grab out luggage.
Like usual, it was packed.
Tourists milling around. Some taking pictures, selfies, others rushing to their planes that is about to depart. People were sitting around on their phones, tablets, or laptops, some had fast food bags in their hand, others held burritos or Styrofoam boxes of tacos.
We grabbed out bags, which took us a pretty damn long time to get, after that we went to get Billie out of the kennels, then went to where my dad was.
I saw the familiar brown-blonde hair. I still wonder where I got my black hair from.
Billie began to wag his tail.
"That's dad," I told Luke and looked at him.
He stared straight ahead.
I dropped my bag and rushed forward.
I threw my arms around him as Dad held me tightly.
"Welcome back, sweetheart," He said.
"Thanks, I missed you," I said.
"Missed you too, Helen."
I pulled away and turned to Luke who was staring at Dad in utter shock.
"Dad, this is Luke, you know," I said.
"Son," Dad said.
"Dad," Luke said softly.
Luke came forward and hugged Dad. I smiled.
They were both the same height. And I still wonder why I am so short.
I looked at Calum, he gave me a thumbs up.
I smiled and nodded.
"I thought I'd never see you again," Dad said.
"Neither did I. I was merely a child when you left," Luke replied.
They pulled back.
"Who are these young lads," Dad said and motioned to the three guys.
Ashton came forward and shook my Dad's hand, "My name is Ashton Irwin, I'm Luke's best mate, nice to meet you Mr. Hemmings."
"Call me Andy, Ashton," Dad said.
"I'm Michael Clifford, also Luke's friend," Michael said.
And lastly Calum.
He shook Dad's hand, "Hello Mr. Hemmings, I'm Calum Hood, Luke's best friend and Helen's boyfriend."
I nearly choked on my own saliva and felt my face flush.
I didn't know he was going to say that!
"Boyfriend?" Dad asked. I looked up and he had his eyebrow arched.
I leave California for almost two months, newly single and come back with a new man in my life.
"Well, if you make her happy and care for her, and never hurt her. It's fine with me," Dad said.
Oh thank god! I sighed in relief.
I picked my bag up and elbowed Calum in the gut.
"Let's go!" I exclaimed.
We got out things and started walking towards the car.
"How is he?" I asked dad.
"He's doing good, still hasn't talked. Usually spends his time sleeping. The doctors are talking about surgery."
"Oh gosh, that bad?"
"Yea. It seems like he's getting worse instead of better."
We got to Dad's silver truck and put the things in the trunk.
We all got in and dad started the engine.
His phone rang.
"Hello?" He said into the phone.
I turned the radio down. Billie sat on my lap even though he was a little too big.
"Again? Okay, yea I'll be there, just need to do something real quick. Be there in thirty minutes," He said and hung up.
"Okay, I'm going to drop you off at the house. Leave your bags there, Helen tell the boys what room they'll be staying in and then get in your car and drive to the hospital," Dad instructed.
"You can't take me?" I asked.
"No, Athena wants me to be there when she talks to the doctors," Dad replied.
"Okay," I said.
Athena is Adin's Mom.
Thank goodness the traffic was very light. Usually L.A traffic is frustrating and lasts hours to get to a destination that takes twenty minutes.
"Why is there so much traffic?" Michael asked.
"Are you kidding? This is great!" I said.
"Yea, this is good traffic. Not very packed," Dad added.
Thirty minutes we rolled into the city and drove into Hollywood.
"Whoa, look, the Hollywood sign," Luke said.
I looked over my shoulder and the four boys were snapping pictures with their iPhones.
They're such tourists.
Well it is their first time in America.
I still laughed.
They took pictures of various buildings, Hollywood Boulevard, and other stuff.
"Okay, guys we'll have time to explore." I laughed.
"Really?" Calum asked.
"Yea, I'll show you all the great stuff like, City Walk, Disneyland, Six Flags, Universal Studios, Beverly Hills, all that," I explained.
"Cool," Michael said.
It took us another twenty minutes but we finally go to our Hollywood home.
We drove into the neighborhood and passed huge houses.
Finally we got to my old home.
Like all Hollywood houses, it's big, like a mansion.
"This house is huge!" Ashton said.
"I'll see you at he hospital," I told Dad.
"Okay, I won't tell Adin you're here," He said.
I smiled and got out, Billie jumped out of the track and ran through the circular driveway.
I grabbed my bags and so did the guys.
Of course the first thing Billie did was take a shit.
Some things just don't change.
I clutched my keys.
"Can't believe you live here," Luke said.
"Yea, are you sure we're in the right place? Or is this Miley Cyrus's house?" Michael asked.
"You're making me feel like a snobby rich girl," I said.
They stared in awe at the house.
I huffed and started walking towards the doors.
The garden is still beautiful and quiet. Which is why I liked it.
The guys were behind me.
I unlocked the doors and opened them.
I walked in, Billie barged in and ran across the marble floor.
"Okay, there is one bathroom down here, and two upstairs. Living room is here, kitchen is over there," I pointed to the kitchen. "Pool is in the backyard."
I walked through the hall under the staircase and opened the door to the backyard.
A rectangular pool filled with blue water stretched out before us.
"Home gym is right there," I pointed to a wooden door and opened it.
I was hit by the cool feeling of the gym. Two treadmills, 1 bike machine, several weights, bench press, step-up, punching bag and other stuff. It had a glass wall that had a view to the pool.
"You can use it if you want," I said. "Also, the fridge is always stocked with all the good food, so feel free to get anything you want, whenever you want."
I closed the door.
"Okay, I'll show you the rooms your be staying in." I said and went back through the hall.
I jogged up the stairs.
"Alright, Luke, this is your room," I pointed to the door right next to my room.
"Calum, yours is next to Luke's" I motioned for his room.
"Michael," I said and directed him to the door.
"And Ash, your is right there," I said and tapped his door.
"Now, Michael and Luke, you both are the only ones who have a personal bathroom. Ashton and Calum, you have to use this one," I pointed to the door right across from my bedroom door.
"Get settled in. We'll eat, then we'll go to the hospital, sounds good?" I asked.
"Yea," Calum said and he walked into the guest bedroom.
I nodded and opened my door.
Everything was the same. Bed, still made, bookshelf still empty, closet still full of my old clothes that I hated. Full of crop tops, blue booty shorts and flats.
That style wasn't me.
That was Brad's dream girlfriend. That's how he wanted me to dress.
I was so stupid for listening to him and doing what he said.
My eyes drifted to my small nightstand. The bottle of Advil was still there.
I threw my bag on the bed and took out a shirt. I grabbed the first one, which was a Green Day muscle tee.
I took my flannel off and pulled the tee over my head.
I looked out the window. Nothing changed.
I checked the time, 10:36 AM.
My stomach rumbled. Haven't eaten all morning. Ugh.
I walked downstairs and went into the kitchen.
I plugged my phone into the surround system. I put my music on shuffle and 'Centuries' by Fall Out Boy came on.
I went into the kitchen and opened the fridge. I decided on some Eggo waffles. I don't feel like cooking right now.
As I was pouring syrup on my waffles Calum came downstairs.
He wore a Nirvana shirt, usual black jeans and black Converse.
"I didn't know you were going to tell my dad that we're dating," I said.
"Cause if I told you I knew you'd say no," Calum replied.
Calum popped some waffles in the toaster.
"I'm sorry," He said.
"It's fine. Doesn't really matter, just hoped he didn't kill you," I replied.
"Your dad seems cool," He said.
"Yea, you should have seen when he met my first boyfriend. He scared him so bad, he didn't talk to me for a week," I laughed.
"I think I'm going to get lost if I ever need to use the toilet," Ashton said.
"Yea, can you make me a map?" Michael asked.
"This place doesn't need a map," I replied.
"You shitting me? This place is huge!" Luke said and they all entered the kitchen.
"Can we stop talking about the house!" I said.
After we all ate toaster waffles and some other food I stood up.
"Ready to meet Adin?" I asked.
