62. Chapter 68 : New Songs

Helen's POV

I sat on the old couch in Michael's garage. I was waiting for the guys to get ready.

I heard Ashton lightly tap his drums with his drum sticks.

Michael strung his guitar.

"can you hear me?" Luke asked into the mic.

I nodded.

I heard the deep melody from Calum's bass.

He was really good at playing the bass. He gave it a specific growl that I found very hot.

"Okay, we're are going to sing Independence Day first," Luke said.

"Wait, Helen, first let us tell you that this song is not about you and Calum is not breaking up with you," Michael said.

I raised an eyebrow, confused. I looked at Calum.

"It's true, this song isn't about you babe, don't get the wrong impression," Calum assured.

"Okay," I said slowly.

"You're going to ruin the song," Ashton said.

"Right, ready. Go." Luke agreed.

Ashton introduced the song with his drums. Next the guitars followed.

The music produced by the instruments blared from the speakers.

Luke stepped up to the mic and began to sing.

"You're telling me the same old story, that I need to change. If you're not living my life for me, you make it feel that way. You know, you know, we're losing control I gotta break away but nothing's gonna change. You got to go its the end of the road, no matter what you do or say. Baby, you're not what I need."

Ashton banged his drums.

"I'm over this, I'm over you. I'm not gonna waist my life way, This is my Independence Day. I'm moving on, there's not excuse, and I can't take away your pain. This is my Independence Day."

Michael followed with his guitar and Calum with his bass.

"This is my Independence Day."

Next Calum stepped up to the mic.

"And suddenly my picture's looking perfect, since you're not in the frame. And deep down I never meant to hurt you, but you're the one to blame. You know, you know, we're losing control. Before it's too late, I'm making my escape. Now that I'm gone, you're on your own, no matter what you do or say. Baby, you're not what I need."

Luke and Michael joined in.

"I'm over this, I'm over you. I'm not gonna waste my life away, this is my Independence Day. I'm moving on, there's no excuse and I can't take way you're pain, this is my Independence Day."

Luke went solo.

"Wouldn't it be nice if it could of worked out right for us, I know we'd fight for all we had. But it didn't feel right, hearts on our sleeves we lost tonight, and there's no looking back."

Michael had a guitar solo, with drums of course.

Calum grabbed the mic.

"I'm over this, I'm over you. I'm not gonna waste my life away, this is my Independence Day. I'm moving on there's no excuse and I can't take away you're pain, this is my Independence Day."

Luke took over.

"Wouldn't it be nice, if it could of worked out right for us and there's no looking back. This is my Independence Day. This is my Independence Day."

The guitar and drums faded. I stared at them, speechless.

"What do you think?" Luke asked.

"That was," I stood up. "Fucking EPIC!"

"Really?" Luke asked.

"Yea! The lyrics, guitar solos, drums, bass, everything! Its AMAZING! I love it!" I exclaimed.

"Thanks Helen," Michael said and tried to do a hair flip, but he didn't have enough hair.

I laughed at his goofiness.

"Can we do the next song, I'm excited for this one," Calum said.

"Don't get your panties in a twist, we'll get there," Michael joked.

I tried to hide my laugh.

"Okay the next, we all wrote, but Calum wrote most of it. Just kept spilling out word after word," Luke said.

"And it's mostly drums and bass, with some guitar," Ashton said.

"Give it to me," I said dramatically.

Luke nodded and Michael strum his guitar.

Luke stepped up to the mic once again.

"Life's a tangled web, of cell phone calls and hash tag I Don't Knows. And you, you're so caught up, in all the blinking lights and dial tones. I admit I'm a bit of a victim in the worldwide system too, but I found my sweet escape when I'm alone with you. Tune out the static sounds of the city that never sleeps, here in the moment of the dark side of the screen."

Calum sang next and he was staring directly at me. Into my eyes and I gazed at him.

"I like the summer rain, I like the sounds you make, we put the world away, we get so disconnected. You are my getaway. You are my favorite place, we put the world away, yea we're get so disconnected."

"Oh, oh, oh, oh."

"Yea, we're so disconnected."

"Oh, oh, oh, oh."

Calum smiled widely at me and I felt my heart flutter. He winked and I had to prevent myself from gigging like a schoolgirl.

Luke sang again.

"Hands around my waist, you're counting up the hills across the sheets. And I'm a fallen star, a glimmer lighting up these crowded streets. I admit I'm a bit of a fool for playing by the rules. But I found my sweet escape when I'm alone with you. Turn down the static sounds of the city that never sleeps, here in the moment of the dark side of the screen."

"I like the summer rain, I like the sounds you make, we put the world away, we get so disconnected. You are my getaway. You are my favorite place, we put the world away, yea we're so disconnected."

I smiled at Calum as he sang. It felt like he was singing to me, like directly. Like I really was his favorite place and his getaway. He's mine.

"Turn off the radio, those late night TV shows, hang up the telephone and just be here with me. Turn off the radio, those late night TV shows, hang up the telephone and just be here with me."

Michael did a mini guitar solo.

"I like the summer rain, I like the sounds you make, we put the world away, we get so disconnected. You are my getaway. You are my favorite place, we put the world away, yea we're so disconnected. I like the summer rain. I like the sounds you make. We put the world away, we get so disconnected. You are my getaway. You are my favorite place, we put the world away, yea we're so disconnected."

Calum's voice is so beautiful, I love it.

"Oh, oh, oh, oh."

"We're so disconnected."

"Oh, oh, oh, oh."

Michael finished the song with his guitar chords.

"That was beautiful," I said. "I love the song."

"Thanks, doll," Michael said in a 70s or 80s time accent.

"She's my doll," Calum said.

I went to Calum and threw my arms around him. He held me tightly.

"You are my favorite place," Calum whispered in my ear.

I kissed his cheek.

Calum and I sat on the roof of my house. Luke and Ashton were still at Michael's house.

I had my head rested on Calum's bicep.

We were watching the sun on the horizon as it slowly went down.

"It's about you," Calum said breaking the silence.

"What?" I asked and looked at him.

"The song Disconnected, you were my inspiration for it. When I'm with you I feel isolated from the world, completely disconnected."

"Its a beautiful song, I love it. We do get disconnected and I will be here with you."

His eyes looked honey gold in the sunlight. Absolutely beautiful.

"Stop looking at me like that," Calum blushed, smiled and looked away.

"How?" I asked.

"You look so dazed."

"I'm just admiring your perfection," I said.

He smirked, "You got it all wrong. You're perfect. You're too good for me. I don't des-"

I cut him off by pressing my lips against his.

His plump lips where soft.

"Don't ever say that," I said once I pulled away. "Those are break up lines. And I don't want to end it now, it's just getting good."

"Can I get another kiss now?" Calum asked.

I laughed and kissed his lips once more.

He really is my getaway.
