It's been a week since the New Year's Eve party. I'm still trying to remember what happened. But I tried to forget about it, just because remembering the party brings the memory of that awful hangover. I was listening to music when my phone ran. I picked my phone up.
The screen read: Dad I tapped the screen."Hi dad!" I said.
"Sorry I wasn't able to call you, sweetheart, I was busy at work," He apologized.
I frowned, "It's okay. I understand. But how was your New Years?"
"It was great, spent it with some of the guys in Beverly Hills," he replied.
"What did you do? Anything interesting?"
"No, just stayed home with Luke, ya know nothing crazy," I lied. "Hey did Adin ask you for 100 dollars?"
"Yea, what was that about?"
"It was a bet. And he won so he got 100 bucks," I replied.
"Mhmm. Billie Joe misses you, just sits there and mourns."
I felt my heart shatter, "My poor baby. I miss Billie too."
"It's pretty sad actually, he always sleeps on your bed and looks out the window."
I tried to hold back tears. Billie Joe and I were inseparable since I adopted him.
"Don't cry, sweetheart," Dad said.
"I'm not crying," I sniffle.
"I just miss him so damn much!" I said and burst out crying.
"Things will get better, don't worry."
"I hope you're right."
"I am. I have to go. I'll call you tomorrow, hopefully."
"Okay, bye Dad, take care."
"You too, baby girl."
I hung up.
I was texting. Calum when the door bell rang. I heard Luke open the door.
"Helen!" He called. "Did you order a dog?" I furrowed my eyebrows. Dog?
"What?" I asked. As soon as I said that I heard a dog bark and start whining.
"Oh fuck," Luke shouted.
I jumped off the bed and looked over the staircase. "Billie Joe!" I called. And the dog began crying out. I couldn't believe my eyes. "Let him out!" I said.
Luke opened the door and Billie burst out the kennel door. He ran towards me and I wrapped my arms around his neck and cried into his furry muzzle. Billie was wagging his tail violently. I feared it would fall off. I pulled away and Billie began licking my face.
"No Billie," I laughed.
"That's Billie Joe?" Luke asked.
"Yea," I sniffled and wiped my tears.Luke patted Billie's head and he looked up at Luke with his two colored eyes.
"Awww he's such a cutie," Luke said and cupped Billie's face.
"Hey he's my dog," I joked.
"Don't show him to Calum."
"Why?" I asked and gave him a puzzled look.
"Calum loves dogs. I mean he loves them," Luke replied.
"So he's a dog lover."
"Yes.".Luke groaned, "I know that look."
"What look?" I asked and looked up at him once again.
"You look like the heart eye emoji."
I glared at him.
He laughed, "It's true!"
"Al right well I'm going to get him some food and water. Can you take me?"
"To the store of course. Maybe PetSmart or PetCo, whatever."
"Yea, sure," Luke said, "Let me get my keys." He jogged up the stairs. I looked at Billie Joe. His right eyes was blue and his left was a light brown. He gave me a puppy look. He knows I can't resist it.
"Awww! I missed you so much Billie Joe!" I said and hugged him again. He licked my face again.I giggled.
"Alright, let's get going," Luke called.
I stood up. "C'mon boy," I motioned for Billie Joe to follow me. He bounded down the stairs. I moved the kennel away from the door and opened it. I grabbed the leash that was in the kennel. I stepped outside and Billie was still at my side. Luke closed the door behind him and locked it.
He unlocked the car doors and I opened the door for Billie to get in. I closed the door and got into the passenger's seat. Luke slid in the driver's seat and put the key n the ignition. He started the engine.
"I never asked you how your first gig went," I said.
"It was great. Like I said before, only 12 people went."
"That's great!" I said enthusiatically.
"Yea, it was loads of fun. I'm pretty sure we looked like idiots. We had no idea what we where doing. We don't play in front of people. So we weren't used to it."
"Ahh," I said and nodded. "I'm sure you guys did great though. Ya'll are naturals."
"Oh we finished Independence Day and also wrote a new song. We want you to listen to it."
"Oh I'm excited!" I said.
"You're 5sos's biggest fan. Probably our only fan but you know."
I laughed. "You'll get fans eventually," I said.
"Hmm," Was all Luke replied.
I heard Billie scratch the car seats.
"He better not rip it, it's leather," Luke said.
"Just open the window, he wants some fresh air."
Luke rolled down the back window and Billie stuck his head out. His muzzle blew in the air and his snout was open as he took in deep breaths. After a couple of minutes Luke parked in the PetSmart lot. I got out and opened the back door. I clicked on the leash to Billie's collar. He hopped out and heeled at my side. I began walking towards the doors.
"What are you going to buy?" Luke asked.
"Some food and maybe dog treats," I replied.
"Okay." The automatic doors slid open and we were greeted by a lady with a blue shirt on and a huge smile.
"Hi, welcome to PetSmart, can I help you with something?" She asked chirpy.
"Hello and we're good. Just gotta get some food for Billie here," I replied and patted Billie Joe's head.
"Well if you need anything I'll be at the front desk, my name is Madison," She said and winked at Luke before walking off.
I laughed. "Oh my, she was totally hitting on you," I said.
Luke blushed "Shut up and get the food."
I snorted and made my way towards the dog food aisle. My eyes scanned the various dog food brands. Luke was on his phone, his sunglasses perched on top of his quiff. I felt someone tap me on my arm. I turned around. A little girl about 5 or 6 stood in front of me. She had curly light brown hair and big green eyes.
"Is that your dog?" She asked me and pointed to Billie Joe.
"Yes he is," I replied.
"Is he friendly?"
"Yea, you want to pet him?" I asked.
"Can I?" She asked with a big smile.
"Of course," I replied.
The little girl moved around me and caressed Billie's muzzle.
"What's his name?" She asked.
"His name is Billie Joe," I replied.
"He's so cute," She said and hugged Billie.
"Alice!" Someone called. I looked back and a woman was motioning for the little girl to come.
"Mommy, look at the doggy," She said.
"Alice we have to go," Her mom, or I assume it's her mom, said. Alice patted Billies head and went with her Mom.
"Okay, I need some muscles," I said and eyed Luke.
"I feel so used," Luke said sarcastically. "All I am to you is food and muscles." I laughed and pointed to the bag I wanted. He grabbed it and threw it over his shoulder. We went to the check out and paid for the food. Then we went back out into the parking lot and put the food in the trunk. We got back into the car and drove home. We arrived 7 minutes later and got out. I unlocked the door and went into the kitchen. Luke set down the food.
"That was a work out," he said and wiped away and imaginary line of sweat.
I grabbed the two bowls from the kennel in which Billie arrived in and poured food into one of it. I placed the bowl on the floor and Billie began devouring the food. I laughed and popped some bread into the toaster. As I waited I filled his other bowl with fresh water. I spread Nutella on the toast and began to eat it.I was about to eat my second bread slice when Luke came into the kitchen, took the bread from my hands and left. I repeat, he took my bread and left.
"Seriously?" I asked.
"Dead serious," Luke replied and bit the bread.
"Ugh," I groaned, "Don't take my food." Luke laughed. The doorbell rang. I heard Luke open it.
"We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine," I heard Calum, Michael, and Ashton sing in melody.
"Oh it's you guys," Luke said in sarcastic annoyance.
"It's us!" Ashton cheered. Billie growled.
I patted his head, "Stay." He stood by his bowl.
"Where's Helen?" Michael asked.
"I'm here," I called out and came out of the kitchen.
"Making food?" Calum asked.
"No just taking care of a friend," I replied.
"Yea a friend," Luke said.
"Will I meet this friend?" Calum asked.
"Yea you can meet him right now, you'll love him," I replied.
I whistled and Billie came charging out of the kitchen.
"C'mere boy!" I said and patted my thighs.
Billie ran towards me and stood on his hind legs. He passed my height and had his paws on my shoulders. I giggled and put his paws back on the ground. I turned to Calum and he had a huge smile on his face.
"This is Billie Joe," I said.
"Can I touch him?" Calum asked excited.
I laughed and Calum rushed to Billie and began to pet Billie.
"Can I have him?" Calum asked.
"No," I replied.
"Careful Helen, Calum will probably steal him at night," Ashton said.
"Billie is my guard dog, nothing will get past him," I said.
"So what are we going to do today?" Ashton asked.
"Billie is so big," Michael said.
"I know," I agreed.
"What do you guys want to do?" Luke asked.
"I dunno," I replied.
"Oh the songs!" Calum said.
"Right! Helen we have to show you to new songs," Luke said.
"Cool," I replied.
