I didn't buy her story, something is wrong and she is hiding it from me. I felt hurt, she didn't trust me enough to tell me. "i was kidding," she said. I raised an eyebrow at her. "Look, Luke, I am not ready to talk."
She then started to walk away. I caught up to her, we got in line and bought our lunches. We sat down at the table with the guys, Helen pushed her pizza away. Her stomach growled.
"Eat it," I demanded pushing the pizza towards her.
"What's wrong?" Ashton asked Helen. She shook her head.
"She won't ear her food, but I know she is starving. We both have the same appetite," I responded taking a bite out of my pizza.
"If you don't eat the pizza, you'll have to tell us your deepest, darkest secrets," Ashton threatens. Helen hesitates, then starts devouring her slice. We all laugh, even she laughed.
"So, what is your deepest, darkest secret?" Calum asks.
She leans in and looks around, we all do the same. "You won't tell anyone right?" She asks.
"No, of course not," We all say.
"Me either," she replies and leans back. She gives us an evil smile.
"She really is your sister, Luke, she has the same mischievous smile," Michael says.
Me and Helen laugh, her face lights up when she smiles.
"Aye, Luke can me and the guys go over to your house after school?" Ashton asks.
"Yea, mate, I mean it is Friday," I replied.
"You coming to, right, Helen?" Calum asked.
"Uh, I LIVE there! Of course I'm coming," she giggles.
"Helen what do you have next?" I asked her.
"Art, PE, and math," she replied.
"we all have PE together," I said.
"Oh, this is going to be so much fun," She replied.
The bell rand twenty minutes later and we all walked to class. I dropped Helen off at her class and walked with Michael to math. It went by so slow, but the bell rang and Mike and I went to the locker room to get dressed.
I walked into the PE teacher's office. "Hi, I'm new here, my name is Helen Hemmings."
"Okay, well, this is your locker number, combination and clothes," she handed me the lock, paper and uniform.
"Thank you." I said with a smile.
I searched for my locker, everyone stared, and I tried to ignore them. My locker was in an isolated corner, which was fine by me. I opened it and started changing. I folded my clothes, placed it in my locker and locked it. I pulled my hair up in a high ponytail and walked into the gym. the guys were already there. I jogged towards them, they all looked very odd in their uniforms. My shorts were a little too short and I felt uncomfortable. The loose shirt fit me perfectly.
"Hey Lukey," I said.
Luke turned, Calum's eyes widened when he saw me. Ashton and Michael laughed at Calum. I laughed too.
"Alright class, we are doing volleyball, everyone get int a group of five or six," The teacher instructed. I found out her name is Mrs. Turner. Me and the boys got in a group.
"You good at volleyball?" I asked the boys.
"Yea, played it for three months," Calum said.
"I'm average," Michael shrugged.
"I win every game," Ashton smiled.
"I'm pretty good," Luke said.
"I played for two years, we will win this," I said.
We got on the court and Calum served first. He got it over the net and the other team bumped it. Michael set it. I ran up and spiked the ball down. One point for us.
"Where did you learn to play?" Ashton asked.
"Volleyball is a beach sport, you couldn't walk around California and not know how to play volleyball," I replied.
When class ended we were undefeated champions.
"Good job, team," I told the boys.
"Not so bad yourself, Hel," Luke said.
"Yea, well," I started but didn't finish. I slipped into the locker room and got dressed. I put my bag over my shoulder and made my way towards the door. I felt stares in the back of my head. I turned around.
"Stop staring at me, what do I look like a freaking alien to you!?" I shouted and stomped out of the room. I sat on the bench. The bell rang to go to our next class and I still sat on the bench. I felt a tap on my shoulder.
"Leave me the fuck alone," I growled
"Ouch, hurtful," the person said.
I looked up and it was Calum, his brown eyed full of concern.
"Oh, sorry Calum, I didn't know it was you," I apologized.
"Aye, it's fine, so what's wrong?" he asked sitting next to me.
"The girls were just staring at me and I didn't like it. You see I struggle with social anxiety. I've tried to come out of my shell but it's hard," I said. I looked at him and he was frowning. "Pretty stupid, huh?" I said.
"No, no it isn't. It's understandable," Calum replied. "Just keep your head up," he said lightly tipping my chin up with his index finger. I smiled.
"Thanks Calum," I said wrapping my arms around him. He hugged me back. I felt safe in his arms, I wanted to stay like this.
"We should get to class, don't want you to be late," he said, pulling apart. I collected myself and started walking to class.
"Where are the guys?" I asked.
"They went to their classes, Luke told me to watch over you. We have math together," He replied.
"Great," I said with a smile.
