9. Gally x
Shifting over, my hand reaches out for the sleeping body next to me, but I am met with cold air. Confused I sit up half asleep and look around wildly for him. My feet swing out of my bed as I stand on my two feet and walk towards the door that has been left open a fraction. I walk over to see the shadow standing near one of the maze doors. I stand there next to him for a few seconds, neither of us moving or talking.
"What are you doing here?" Gally turns his head towards me in the darkness.
"I couldn't sleep." He turns back to face the doors. "And then you weren't there." I look at him as we stand there listening to the walls changing and the grievers whirl.
"I needed some fresh air ... and to think." He doesn't give me time to respond. "Do you think it was stupid idea for me to be a builder? I mean maybe I should be a runner. Actually do something you know. Help. Run and try to find a way out." I grab his chin and make him look at me.
"You already do so much. Nothing here would be the same without you. You help out in your own way."
"Thanks for trying to help me, let's go back to sleep." He grazes my hand with his hand and then locks our fingers together before leading me away.
