“Have you ever tried putting your venom into let’s say an animal?” Francesca asked Alice. She shook her head.
“No. It’s only been a week. I have been focused on finding you and Dessa. I thought about it, but I never went through with it.” She looked at Felix. He flashed her a cute smile. He walked over and slid his arm around her waist.
“Well, let’s try it.” Francesca said. She walked to a slide and lifted it. Light shown through and she held her hand out of it. An over sized toad hopped into her hand.
“How did you do that? Do they just chill there?” Iridessa asked. Francesca smiled and nodded. “Cool.” Iridessa laughed. Francesca laughed along with her.
“Bite it.” She said, holding the frog up to Alice.
“What happens if it turns into some type of killing animal?” She asked.
“I will kill it before it can get out of control. Just bite it.” Alice took the frog into her hands and slowly, sunk her teeth into the salty, tough skin, releasing her venom into it’s small veins. As she backed off, the frog twitched. It turned cold and it’s mouth slowly opened. Teeth slowly formed out of the mouth. His eyes turned gold. The skin seemed as if it shifted. Fur grew out of it’s skin.
“What the hell?” Felix said. He grabbed the frog and examined it. The frog flew out of his hand when it bit him. “Get rid of it. It’s no good.” Felix said. Francesca nodded and set the frog on the table, thrashing into it with a knife. Its blood spilled over the table and rotted it out.
“Is it suppose to do that?” Iridessa asked,
“Well probably. I mean, it’s hybrid blood.” They all nodded.
“What will it do to a vampire?” She asked again.
“I think it will do what we need to do. But, we need someone to test it on.” Alice said. They all looked around at each other. Felix let out a deep sigh and raised his hand. Alice shook her head. “No. I will compel another vampire.”
“And what happens when it works and you can’t fight him. What happens when he turns his back on you? I won’t be able to help because he will be stronger than I am. Just let me do it.” Felix said. Alice looked to her mother who nodded.
“Fine. Come here.” Felix walked to her. Alice placed her hands behind his head and pulled him down to her. To his surprise, she planted her lips softly on his and then pulled away. She rounded to his neck and sunk her teeth into his vein. He flinched and moan which made Alice crazy. She loves that sound. When she let him go, he started to shake. Twitched. He screamed and fell to the floor. Alice whimpered and turned around. She didn’t want to see him in pain. She covered her ears but she could still hear him.
He started to sweat. He cried. Bones broke. He screamed again. After about ten minutes of torture, everything stopped. Slowly, shakily, Alice turned around to see Felix pulling himself up on the table.
“Felix.” She said. She walked to him and helped him stand up. He put most of his weight on her. She checked his face. Eyes, teeth, strength. She asked Francesca for another frog. Felix engulfed the entire thing. His eyes turned gold and he smiled. A laughed roared out from his throat.
Alice smiled and wrapped her arms around Felix.
“It worked.” She said. He nodded.
“We need to do it to everyone else.”
“Well, first can we go hunt? Just me and you? We need to talk.” Alice said. He nodded. Francesca led them up to the house and opened the door. Letting them out.
“What do you need to talk to me about?” Felix asked when they got pretty far from the house.
“I just want to say thank you. You changed me. You filled me with love. Your kisses and hugs warm me up. I am have strength with you. And I am so glad that I met you.” They both stopped in their tracks. Felix turned to Alice.
“Your welcome. Thank you for showing me what it is like to love. I would have never known.” He wrapped Alice in his arms. “I love you.” He said. She laughed.
“I love you too.” Felix kissed her entire face and then gently pressed his lips to hers. His tongue caressed her bottom lip, asking for entrance. She accepted and opened her mouth slightly. After a moment, a piercing yell shredded the forest. Alice tore from Felix and looked back. She knew that voice. It was Iridessa.
Felix and Alice ran through the forest back to the house. The door was ripped off and thrown from the house. When they got inside. Asparatus and Claudius had the two children, Francesca’s husband, and Iridessa hanging from the ceiling. Blood was dripping from their sliced throats onto the floor.
Alice stopped. Froze. She looked at the blood that moved together in a stream towards her feet. The color was quite beautiful really. Thick and red. Slowly moving together with the mud tracked in from her feet.
Felix pulled her back into reality. He pushed her out of the way for Claudius leaped after her. Felix grabbed Claudius and slammed him into the ground. Asparatus then came for her. She shoved him into the wall and pinned him there by his neck.
“Where is my mother?! Why would you do this?! Your my father!!!” She yelled in his face. He laughed.
“Your mother is dead. I killed her. Threw her down the stairs. It was graceful. She came at me but I had a knife ready. Throwing it into her stomach, I watched the life flood out of her eyes. The silver burned through her skin. She yelled at me and fell. Blood gushing from her stomach every time she went down.” Alice released more tear and pushed him harder into the wall.
“She was your lover! Why?” She whimpered. Felix yelled in pain. Alice turned around just to see his body collapse on the floor. But his head was missing. She looked up to Claudius who held it in his hand.
Alice yelled. Shrieked. Fell to the ground and pulled Felix’s body to her.
“Felix! No!!” She cried. Blood covered her hands. Her clothes were soon drenched. “I love you.” She whispered to him. She felt a harsh pain in her side. She gasped and looked down to the dagger stuck into her side. She looked up at Asparatus who had a smirk on his face.
“Goodbye my dear.” He said.
She opened her eyes and screamed. She shot up and threw the blankets off of her. Alice wiped the sweat from her forehead and looked around. Her bedroom was still the same. Her favorite stuffed Teddy Bear was gripped tightly in her arms. The door slammed open and her mother shot into her bedroom.
“Shhh, my darling. It was only a bad dream. It’s okay. Shh. I am here.” Her mother caressed her head. Alice’s sleepy little eyes slowly started to close but she forced them back open, scared to go back to the horrible dream.
“Tomorrow is your birthday. You need the sleep! It’s a big day. Just go to sleep. Iridessa is right beside you. Just go back to sleep. It’s okay.” Alice’s mother stood up and kissed her head and walked out of the bedroom.
Alice looked over into the other bed. Her twin sister laid down. Asleep. Tomorrow was their eighth birthday. True, she did need the sleep.
“Good night Iridessa.” Alice said, and slowly fell back to sleep.
