I made my way downstairs to the kitchen to see Maureen, the family chef, fixing up some breakfast.
"Good morning, Aleisha," Maureen said when she'd noticed that I was in the room.
"Good morning, Maureen," I smiled.
"What time did you get home last night? Where were you anyway?"
"I was at a friend's house, I tutored him for a few hours and his mom invited me for dinner." I said.
"That's nice- wait, did you say his?" She said. Damn. "Who is he? You know your father's not gonna be pleased to hear this."
"Just a friend from math class, Maureen," I sighed. Liar. "Nothing more, nothing less. And I texted mom yesterday I'd be home late."
"That's good to hear. Remember last-," I didn't let her finish her sentence as I knew what she was about to say, and I wasn't interested in talking about it.
"Yes, I remember," I sighed. "Speaking of dad, where is he?" I asked, changing the topic.
"He's out of town with your mother for some business meeting for something. They should be back in a couple of days," She said.
My parents; they were never home. I barely ever see them anymore, and if I did, it'd usually be for a few hours or so. They were always attending business meetings and stuff but I'm used to it.
"Is Alison ready?" Maureen asked, placing some food onto plates. Alison is my 15 year old sister.
"I'm not sure, I hadn't seen her since yesterday morning," I shrugged.
Maureen sighed, "Alright, I'll go check on her and you eat breakfast."
I nodded and made my way to the breakfast bar and took a few bites of her simple, yet delicious food. Maureen's food was never a disappointment.
I heard footsteps and before I knew it a body sat next to me, "Where were you last night?" Was the first thing Alison, (or Ali as I call her), said to me.
"I was tutoring a friend," I said.
"Until night time?" She rolled her eyes.
"They invited me for dinner! Plus, I texted mom about it and she was fine."
"Sure," She scoffed. "By the way, mom and dad told us to let Niles drive us to school today."
"Why?" I asked.
"These were his exact words, 'I hired a driver for the both of you so you might as well use him.'," She said, imitating, (or at least she tried to), our father.
I let out a laugh, "Alright. Now eat up."
"Have a good day, Miss Knight!" Niles said before we left the car.
"Niles," Alison whined. "Call me Alison for God's sake."
"Terribly sorry, Alison," He said to Ali. Shall I call you Aleisha, Miss Knight?" He asked me.
I responded with a nod, "Have a good day, Niles."
"Stay out of trouble, Ali," I warned. "Or I'll tell mom the amount of the detention slips you've gotten this month."
Ali rolled her eyes, "Fine."
Even though Ali and I are blood sisters and we look alike, we're polar opposites. She's on the cheer squad, she's confident, she gets in trouble a load and she has lots of friends. I, on the other hand am on the track team, I'm shy and lack of confidence, I never get in trouble and the only friend I consider a is Kate.
Speaking of Kate, there she was walking my way with her blonde hair flawlessly braided in a fish tail. There was no doubt that Kate was pretty.
"Hey, Leish!" Kate said from a short distance.
"Hello, Miss Katherine Calder," I said formally.
"Oh, God. Why'd you have to use my full name?" She asked. She hated it when people call her that, especially the teacher.
"Because I know you hate it." I smirked.
"Who hates what?" I heard a male voice say and I instantly, mentally face palmed myself.
"What do you want, Clark?" Kate muttered. Kate hated (and still does) Ryder. We were all friends, but that was before we broke up. She's hated him ever since.
"Great to see you too, Calder," Ryder said.
Then, I saw Chase Walter walking towards our direction. Chase's Ryder's best friend. He's a nice dude compared to Ryder.
"Are we all friends now?" Was the first thing he said.
"Hey, Chase," I smiled. He and I never really had anything against each other. We were actually pretty close to a point that even Ryder got jealous that he and I were always together.
"We're friends," Kate said, referring to her, Chase and I. "He is a mutant." Now referring to Ryder who scoffed in response.
"Still hates him, huh?" Chase said and I nodded as the bell rang, signalling that the first period starts. "See you guys around then." He then took Ryder by his arm and yanked him away from us.
Thank the Lord.
