I yawned, stretching out my whole body, collapsing back down again after a few seconds. I smiled as I realised it was the weekend today. I quickly got dressed, wanting to get to Ashton’s house as quick as possible. Ash and Mike have loosened up a bit with Calum, and are already starting to mess around with him. I grinned at the thought of Ash, Mike and Cal being my first friends in years. They were honestly way better than the friends I use to have in the past. I frowned as I remembered Luke. As much as I hated him right now, I still wanted him to be my friend again.
I quickly left the house, being careful to not disturb my sleeping dad. I happily walked to Ash’s house, singing to myself.
I eventually reached Ash’s house, knocking on the door. I grinned, eagerly waiting for them to answer the door.
No one answered the door. I frowned, and tried knocking again. Still no one. I peeked through the window, trying to see if I could see anyone. I saw Ash’s car parked in the driveway, so he was definitely home. I stepped back, confused.
Suddenly, my stomach dropped. Are they purposely avoiding me? Maybe they don’t want to have anything to do with me anymore. I gritted my teeth, as tears started to form in my eyes. I was such a fool, thinking that people would actually want to be my friend.
I angrily attacked the door, kicking it and wrenching the door handle. Suddenly, the door flew open, causing me to look up, surprised.
I cautiously walked in, looking around for someone. I followed the whispering and giggling I heard in the kitchen, being as quiet as I could.
The kitchen was pitch black, all the curtains closed. I flicked the light switch, revealing a cake, a pile of presents, and 3 boys crouched around the table, grinning their faces off, wearing ridiculous party hats.
“SURPRISE,” they screamed, attacking me with hugs.
I stared at them, confused. They continued to stare at me with huge grins on their faces, waiting for a reaction.
It stayed this way for a while, making it begin to get a bit awkward.
“Uhm, your birthday?” Michael asked, gesturing to the ‘happy birthday’ written on the cake.
I gasped, surprised that they bothered going through the effort of all this. I was surprised they even remembered my birthday.
I grinned, hugging them back.
“Thankyou guys so much. No one’s remembered my birthday for years now, let alone celebrate it. Even I’ve begun to forget when my birthday is,” i said, starting to cry.
We stayed in this position for a couple of minutes, all of us enjoying the moment.
“Well come on, what are you waiting for. Open the presents,” Calum said, jumping up and down.
Mike and Ash agreed with him, jumping up and down excitedly.
“Open mine first,” Ash said, shoving his present in my face.
I laughed, taking it from him. I slowly opened it, making Ash get impatient.
“Hurry up,” he said, bouncing up and down in his seat.
I finally opened it, revealing an iPod and headphones. I grinned, hugging Ash as hard as I can, making him nearly fall off his chair.
“Thank you so much oh my god,” I breathed, admiring the iPod.
“Open mine now,” Michael urged, handing his to me.
I opened the box, revealing 2 hoodies, a $50 gift voucher and a beautiful necklace.
I instantly put the necklace and one of the hoodies on, admiring them.
“Thank you so much,” I gushed, stroking the hoodie.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t have much time to go buy you a present, so I hope this is okay,” Cal said approaching me, handing an envelope over.
“No no it’s fine, I’m just glad you remembered my birthday,” I said opening the envelope. Inside was $200 in cash, causing me to stare at him, surprised.
“Are you sure you didn’t put too much in here?” I asked, shocked.
“Nah. Even if I did I wouldn’t mind. I mean, I’ve been making your life horrible for the past years, the least I could do is give you this,” he said, looking guilty.
I hugged him tightly, causing him to stumble back, surprised. He eventually hugged me back, grinning.
“I’m glad you’re happy,” he said, smiling.
“Of course I am. With all you guys, how can I not be? You guys are the best people ever,” I said.
“Let’s eat the cake now,” Ash said excitedly. “We made it ourselves,” he stated proudly.
I raised my eyebrows. “Are you sure I won’t be getting food poisoning,” I joked.
“Noooo. We’re great bakers, no need to worry,” Mike said, butting in.
I grinned, taking a slice of the cake. I bit into it, not knowing what to expect.
“So what do you think?” Cal asked, staring at me worried.
I slowly chewed, causing them to get even more nervous.
I eventually swallowed, as they stared at me, waiting for a response.
“It’s perfect,” I said, grinning.
