"It's not unusual for children like her to fall flat on their ass like that," she said, pointing to the child, kicking awkwardly to a ball in the corner, staring at the other kids playing.
"But she likes it like that. She doesn't belong here, she says, and everyone can see it. She's just waiting but I don't know for what, and I'm afraid she knows, and she acts as though it's something that won't necessarily be good for her, but make her happy," the other woman said, looking at the kid with sad eyes, scared of knowing that she would leave as soon as she got old enough. She wasn't happy. She knew she could be, but it would also take a lot from her and leave her with a lot of mixed feelings, even though she would end up happy. She would, no doubt of that. Children like that, who dared to choose her own destiny, would meet a lot of challenges, but come out of it even better, braver and happier than before. They always did that.
And even though it frightened her to think of all her upcoming challenges, and how hard it would be, she were glad that she would end up someplace safe and happy. She needed that. Rather than stay here and be sad, having nothing to stand up against, she took up the fight to start new, fight for herself and to find out who she is. And that is the bravest thing somebody can ever do and that is what I plan to do. Even though it will be hard, the price will be worth it, and that is the only thing I really want in life.
