Luke was left alone in the dark. Again. The only sound in the dark room was his own ragged, frustrated breathing. He couldn't believe what was happening! He was being forced into being with someone who was obviously not in their right state of mind. Someone he had liked, if only for a moment. But now?
You need to calm down mate, he told himself, feeling a heavy wave of rage watch over him. Calm down. Breathe deep. He did the best he could in the stuffy room; eventually his breathing returned to normal and his heart, which had been hammering in his chest, slowed to a steady thump-thump, thump-thump. Good. Now, how are you going to get yourself out of this? he wondered. You don't wanna give in to Elena if she's bluffing, but at the same time you don't wanna play it too safe. He thought about the fire, the pure determination he saw in her eyes and decided it was best to do what she said. Even if it hurt like hell.
He heard the creak of the door again and his heart rate increased a little.
"Oh Lukey!" Elena squealed. No matter what, he told himself as she approached him, her heels click-clacking on the floor. Act like you're in love with her. She took his blindfold off and looked into his eyes. "Sorry hun but this is gonna hurt." And with that she ripped the duct tape off his mouth. He let out a little scream, one that was about more than just a little tape being ripped off. "Here, let me make it better." She bent down and gently pressed her lips against his. Her lip gloss tasted like cherries and lemon, a combination that was as bittersweet as she was. She pulled away and smiled at him.
"Have you thought about how to announce our relationship to the fandom?" she questioned gently. Luke forced himself to smile back, hoping the smile didn't look fake.
"How about...an Instagram post...." he thought quickly. "...of us kissing?" She tilted her head to the side, thinking. Then she shrugged.
"I guess that'll do." she decided finally. She studied him for a moment, searching his eyes for something. He hoped his utter disgust wasn't visible. Apparently it wasn't, because she started to untie him.
"Please don't run away darling..." she told him firmly. "...or it won't end well at all."
"Oh trust me, running away didn't cross my mind at all." he assured her, trying not to let his voice quiver. She undid all the ties and he stood up. She grabbed onto his arm as if she didn't trust him to stay.
"We have to go, but first, I need to blindfold you again."
"Why?" he sighed.
"Just in case I need to put you here again." she answered coolly.
"There will be no need." he told her, gently. She looked at him, only half believing.
"Time will tell." she said simply, and put his blindfold back on.
"Oh you have got to be kidding me." Mindy groaned. She and the boys were stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. There was no telling when they'd be allowed through.
"I'm sure it won't last long." Calum said optimistically.
"This is New York. Of course it'll last long." she grumbled, hoping no one heard. They sat in tense, uncomfortable silence for a long while, until Ashton's phone gave a little ring, notifying him that someone had posted something on some social media or another. Figuring he could distract himself, he took out his phone and looked at his screen. When he saw what notification it was, he sighed in relief.
"Guys, Luke is okay." he announced happily. "Looks like he posted a picture on Instagram."
"Let me see." Calum leaned over to look at the picture. His eyes grew to the size of baseballs when it finally loaded onto the screen. "On my gosh! What the-"
"What?" Michael turned around in the front passenger seat to look. "What is it? What's wrong?" Ashton silently handed Michael the phone and a shocking picture of Luke and Elena in a tender kiss nearly made him choke on air. Mindy took the phone from him and her reaction was virtually the same.
"I...I don't understand..." she stammered. "Why would Luke...?"
"I have no idea. It's not like him to kiss someone like that when he barely even knows them." Calum informed.
"That's not the only weird thing. The caption says, 'Meet my one and only'." Ashton added.
"So...does that mean they're dating?" Michael asked with a frown. He's not the only one Mindy thought, confused. Something is off with this post. Luke would never do something like this. He has an image to maintain. She swore if you looked closely at the photo that Luke wasn't even enjoying it. Mindy knew that there was something wrong with her sister but she never thought she'd do this something like this.
"Let's just wait until we get to them and then we'll ask questions. Because right now, things arent making much sense and asking questions with no answers would make us worry and makes thing worse than it actually is" Mindy said slowly, clearly. The boys nodded; worrying would cause them to think of worst case scenarios and they definitely dont need that.
A car horn beeped behind them, startling everyone in the car. They looked in front of them to realise that the traffic had cleared. They continued to drive to where they thought Luke and Mindy where. All holding their breath and secretly hoping they were still at that location.
Well, you know what they say; hope breeds eternal misery....
