Mindy sighed deeply, relief flooding her heart as she glanced at the clock. She was finally done for the night. She padded to the bathroom to change, fighting off feelings of tiredness. When she stepped out in her black and white maid's outfit, Stacia and Marcus were ready and waiting for her.
"I can't wait to see the season finale tonight!" Stacia squealed as they headed down the sidewalk.
"Hawk marathon here we come!" Marcus cheered, pumping his fists in the air.
"What are you guys talking about?" Mindy asked, clueless.
"Well, you remember the other night, when I went over Stacia's house after work for a bit?" Marcus asked. Mindy nodded. It was the night she met Ashton, how could she forget? "Well, the horror movie that was on sucked. Big time."
"It's wasn't even scary, it was laughable!" Stacia chimed in.
"Yeah, but right after that was the newest episode of this TV show called Hawk. About this kid named Harry Warren, aka Hawk, half-hawk, half-human who's an outcast in society because of his appearence, but becomes a hero when he saves the mayor's daughter." Marcus explained. "We went online and watched every single episode. We're watching the Season 2 marathon on TV tonight."
"We wish you could join us. Hawk is epic." Stacia added.
"Yeah." Marcus smiled at Mindy. "You know you remind me a bit of the mayor's daughter, the one Hawk saves."
"Really?" she asked.
"Yeah. You're both beautiful, strong, confident..."
"Hey! What about me? Am I any of those things?" Stacia asked. Mindy resisted the urge to glare at her. Marcus had been Mindy's crush ever since she met him in the 10th grade and even though Ashton made her blush a deep shade of red, Marcus made her blush as well. Both boys made her feel special, even if Marcus seemed more interested in Stacia sometimes.
"You're everything Stacia." Marucs said, peeling his eyes away from Mindy. He directed his stare to the sidewalk. Mindy's heart sank slightly and she turned her gaze away as well.
"Beautiful, strong, confident, amazing, hot, talented, special-"
"Hey isn't this your apartment building Stacia?" Mindy interrupted. It was the perfect way to get Marcus to shut up. Mindy was shaking with a mixture of jealousy, anger, sadness and guilty for feeling jealous, angry and sad.
"Yeah. Let's go Marc. For Hawk awaits!" She grabbed his wrist and dragged him away, throwing over her shoulder, "Bye Min!"
"Be safe!" Marcus added. Mindy continued down the lonely street, completely ready to wallow in her self misery.
"Hey Mindy!" a voice called out to her. She turned around to see Ashton jogging towards her, his dimpled smile shining brighter than the street lamps. Mindy stared amazed as Ashton stopped beside her.
"Wh-what are you doing here?" she stuttered.
"I left the restaurant and waited for you to come out. Then I, uh, followed you and your friends." he explained, embarrassed.
"Um...why?" she asked as they started walking again.
"I wanted to talk to you again. At the restaurant you were so busy I could barely say more than I sentence to you, and I assume it'll be the same at Cambridge."
"Yeah. I'm sorry about that. I just have to work hard to support Elena and me."
"But why? What about your parents?" he asked. Oh snap, she thought. She hadn't been prepared to tell Ashton about her personal life yet. She couldn't talk about her parents without bawling like a baby even though she'd had two years to accepttheir death. She wasn't about to fall apart in front of him. Quick, think of something.
"They're...uh...archeologists....visiting...Africa." she lied slowly. "Yeah. They're there digging up lost artifacts from the lost...uh...Hooah-Hooah tribe in...um...Zimbabwe." Hooah-Hooah tribe?! Seriously Mindy?! He's never going to believe that! she mentally scolded herself. But Ashton nodded.
"Cool. How long will they be gone for?"
"A year or two." she lied.
"It must be tough without them. Why don't they just send you money or send you to live with an aunt or uncle or something?" he questioned.
"Well...Mom and Dad don't have enough money to send...they needed all expenses for... special equipment. Mom never had siblings and Dad's siblings can't take care of us. They have families of their own."
"What about grandparents?"
"Dead. On both sides." Mindy wasn't lying at this point.
"Oh. Sorry." he paused. "Do you miss them? Your parents I mean." Mindy's heart rate increased.
"Yeah." she answered, trying to keep her voice from shaking. "But...at least they're coming back." Lies, lies lies. Talking like her parents were alive was even worst than admitting they were dead. Mindy was having a hard time breathing all of a sudden, her eyes stung with tears threatening to spill over.
"Mindy? Are you alright love?" Ashton asked, gently touching her arm. She looked up at him. "Did I upset you? You look...sick." The say he said 'love' made her heart melt and she couldn't help but smile.
"I'm fine." she lied.
"Are you sure?" he asked, frowning slightly.
"Yeah. I'm fine. I promise."
The next morning Elena was busy typing away on her computer while Mindy slept in her room. It was 10:45 am and Elena had served herself breakfast: scrambled eggs with bacon and black coffee. Mindy didn't want Elena to drink coffee, but Elena could care less about what her older sister said. She could care less about anything.
As she drank her coffee and finished up her online study course, the doorbell rang.
"Coming!" she shouted, scrapping back her metal chair from the circular glass table. Thier kitchen, with it's white tiled floor and walls was one of her favorite rooms in the apartment. Mostly because of the curtains, the hot pink lace adding a touch of color to the rest of the white and brown decor.
She padded her way to the front door and opened it, only to see her best friend/ partner in crime Kirsten. The energetic blonde stepped past he and into the apartment.
" 'Sup Ells? You got any food? I'm starving!" she exclaimed, heading toward the kitchen.
"Yeah, yeah. Help yourself to some cereal or something." Elena answered, following her.
"Cereal? Dude, I need a hamburger. Stat." Kirtsen slammed her purse onto the kitchen table and sighed. "Do ya got any?"
"Then let's go get some." Kirsten suggested.
"Fine. Just give me a second." Elena answered. Her friend waited impatiently as she turned off her laptop, stuffed it in her flower print shoulder bag, traded her sweatpants (trousers) for skinny jeans, her tank top for a long sleeved pink sweater, put her long, wavy brown hair into a ponytail, applied some light makeup and put on her black leather boots. When she finally emerged from her room she was ready to leave. Kirtsen was pacing around the living room, bursting with impatience.
"I'm starving! Are you ready or not?!" she almost screamed.
"Will you just calm down? Did you skip breakfast again?" Elena asked as she grabbed her shoulder bags and keys.
"Kinda. And I also skipped dinner yesterday." Kirsten admitted sheepishly as they headed towards the door.
"Nothing." Kirsten said quickly, not meeting her best friend's curious gaze. "Let's just go to Becky's Burgers okay?" Elena opened the door and they stepped out into the hallway. "Hey, aren't you gonna leave a note so Mindy knows where you are once she wakes up?"
"Like she cares." Elena spat bitterly as she locked the door.
"Would she stress herself out with two jobs to support you if she didn't care?" Kirsten questioned. Elena ignored her and sped off down the hallway. Kirsten ran after her.
"Hey, wait up!" she cried.
The girls were on the streets of the city of a couple minutes later, headed down the block to Becky's Burgers. It had more of a bar-ish feel than any other fast-food place on that side of the city and the girls loved the place. It had great wifi and it was the place where Elena wrote most of her blogs. In fact, inspiration for a new post hit her just as she and Kirsten headed through the wooden door of the restaurant.
The boys of 5SOS were enjoying a peaceful breakfast at Starbucks. It was almost impossible to get past the crowd of fans in front of the hotel, but somehow they managed to escape unnoticed. Luke was on his smartphone, looking at Elena's Twitter page. She had just posted something 8 seconds ago.
Morning everyone! @Becky'sBurgers rn. Best place ever! Chillin' w/ my BFF Kirst. Prob. gonna shop next! Luke just had to comment on her post.
Nevr been 2 Becky's Burgers. How is it? Within a few seconds she replied.
It's awesome! OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU REPLIED @Luke5SOS!!!! AHHHH! #fangirling Luke smiled.
Me too! #fangirling #urawesome I'd love to go to @Becky'sBurgers w/ u Luke frowned, not exactly liking how that last message sounded, but instead of pressing delete, he accidently pressed 'send'. He stared mortified at his phone. He went back to delete it before anyone saw, but it was already too late. She had replied.
OMG! You can't be 4 realz.
I am. @ElenaBlogger He responded nervously.
Wow! ok. Prove it. Meet me @Becky'sBurgers 6pm 2nite. #ruserious #can'tbreathe #screaminginside Luke's heart stopped beating for a minute, then continued beating at a faster rate.
k It was all he had the courage to say. Then after a couple seconds of waiting she responded with...
YAY! OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M GOING ON A DATE WITH LUKE HEMMINGS @Luke5SOS #CAN'TBREATHE #THISISADATE #FANGIRLING2DAMAXXXX Luke's eyes widened. No! He didn't want this to be a date. Sure, he liked Elena, but he didn't want to go on a date just yet. He knew a lot about her because of her blog, but it wasn't the same as actually talking one on one with someone. But how can he take it back and say that this wasn't a date? She seemed so happy! He couldn't take it back, could he?
"Luke? You alright mate? You look pale." Luke looked up to see Calum staring at him.
"Guys, I was just messaging Elena and-"
"Ugh. Elena." Michael groaned. "Can't you just shut up about her?"
"-I told her I'd go to this restaurant with her because I've never been to it before, and now she thinks it's a date!" Luke went on, ignoring Michael.
"So clear things up." Ashton suggested as he bit into his breakfast burrito. "Shouldn't be too hard."
"But she seems so excited. Look." He pushed his phone over to Ash and he looked at the Tweet. "It seems cruel to crush her spirit like that."
"Okay. But don't you have a crush on her? Why are you freaking out if she thinks it's a date." Ash asked curiously.
"I dunno. Maybe cause I'm not ready?" Luke sighed. "You know my past relationships haven't exactly ended well."
"So, what are you going to do?" Ash asked. Luke shrugged, then another terrifying thought occured. His blue eyes grew wide.
"And you know the worst part to all of this? She Tweeted we were going on a date! To her 3, 000, 000 followers!" Michael let out a string of expletives.
"I told you that girl was no good." Cal said.
