As I walked out of the airport in London, I was immediately hit by a wave of extremely cold air. My mom wasn’t kidding. It was nothing like Australia. We were in summer right now. I pulled my coat out of my carryon and put it on. I then followed my mother to a car rental area. The flight was 23 hours long, and the time difference was about nine hours. So it was safe to say I was confused and extremely tired.
I don’t remember any of the trips through London, or to our hotel room because I was passed out the entire way. I remember walking to the elevator and then to a room in the hotel, and the next thing I know, I am in a bed.
I slept for about 15 hours, since I hadn’t slept at all on the plane and the time difference was so different. When I woke up, it was 3 in the morning. Ugh this is going to take a few days to get used to. My mom was asleep on her bed, so I turned on the TV. Eventually I fell back asleep, and woke up at 10 in the morning, and I finally felt like I had had enough sleep. I looked over at my mom, and she was not in her bed.
“Mom?” I called out. Maybe she was in the bathroom? But I received no answer. Did she really just leave without telling me where she had gone? Typical. But then I saw a note on the nightstand.
‘Rylie. I’ve gone down to breakfast to meet with the band’s manager. We will be meeting with the band later today at about 1 for lunch. You are welcome to come with me to meet them. It’ll be the first time for both of us! Meet down in the lobby at 12:15 to leave. For now, order some room service and get ready for the day. Love you! –Mom’
Two hours later, I had eaten breakfast, showered, done my hair and makeup, gotten dressed in a purple top with black jeans and white flats, and was heading down to the lobby to meet my mom. The elevator doors opened and I saw my mom standing with a man. He was about her age, and fairly handsome for being old. I walked up to them as my mom was laughing at something he had said. She didn’t notice me so I cleared my throat.
“Oh Rylie! I am glad you decided to come with us. Jack this is my daughter Rylie, Rylie this is Jack Granger, 5 Seconds of Summer’s manager,” my mom said giving Jack a swooning look. Uh oh. I’ve seen that look before.
Jack stuck out his hand and I took it. “Hi Rylie. Nice to meet you. I am glad your mom brought you along for the tour. The boys could use a good influence,” he said with a laugh and a British accent. Well that didn’t sound very promising. I smiled back.
I followed the pair out of the hotel lobby and into the London air again. I already forgot how cold it was. Mr. Granger hailed a taxi, he got into the front and my mom and I got into the back. After what seemed like an hour’s drive in the London traffic, we finally reached our destination. It was a small little French restaurant that looked pretty authentic. We got out of the taxi and I followed the adults into the restaurant.
“Reservations for 7 under Granger.” Jack said to the hostess. She nodded and told us to follow her. She led us all the way through the restaurant into a private room in the back.
“Oh good, a private room, that’ll come in handy with the boys get here,” Jack said as we sat down with another laugh. Everything he was saying was making me nervous to meet “the boys”.
We sat and waited for about 15 minutes, before the door opened and I heard male voices. In walked three boys.
One was tall with jet black hair that was obviously dyed, and there was no telling what his natural color was. It was wild on the sides and side swept across his forehead, with the end piece being much longer than the rest of his hair. He had dark green eyes, bushy eyebrows, a thick nose and red puffy lips. He also had earrings in his ears. He was wearing a black and white baseball shirt, blue jeans and black and white checkered vans. He has a punk vibe to him.
Next to him was shorter boy that was very muscular. He had dirty blonde hair same as the first guy but had a lot more brown in it. His hair was thick and swept to the side also but was curly and stuck up at the top. He had puffy cheeks with a long and thin mouth, a perfect smile and dimples. He was wearing a blue short sleeved button up shirt, red pants that were rolled to his calves, and black lace up vans that went to his ankles. He was very attractive.
The third boy was a lot different looking than the other two. He looked to be of different ethnicity. He was darker skinned, with dark black hair and brown eyes. He was younger looking than the other two and was skinnier. He was wearing a gray and red short sleeved shirt, blue jeans and black converse. He was cute in a more exotic way.
Wait wasn’t there supposed to be four of them? I watched as they pushed each other through the door and then cracked up obnoxiously.
Jack got up and cleared his throat. They went silent, and looked at him.
“Good afternoon boys. So nice of you to join us. Where’s Luke?” he asked. The boys cracked up again.
The one with the darker complexion stopped laughing, and said, “He overslept. We woke him up just as we were leaving and he said he would meet us there.”
“Ahh typical. Well let me introduce you to our tour manager. This is Ashley Martin. She will be in charge of making sure you guys are where you need to be, when you need to be there. She will help you decide a set list and all that good stuff. She has brought her daughter with her to go on the tour. This is Rylie. Rylie and Ashley, this is Michael, Ashton and Calum. Luke will hopefully be here soon. Boys sit down and have some lunch. When we are done eating we will start discussing details.” Jack said as he sat down next to my mom again and dove deep into discussion, not to be interrupted.
The boys filed in around me, the one named Ashton sitting directly next to me, Calum sitting across from me and Michael sitting next to him, across from Ashton. I listened to them chatter away about stuff that I had no idea what they were talking about but they all seemed extremely close with each other. Ashton then turned to me.
“I’m sorry. We are being extremely rude. I am Ashton. And Jack said that your name is Rylie?” he said to me and then smiled showing his perfect teeth and dimples. Hmm he was definitely cute. I nodded shyly and he smiled even bigger.
“Are you excited to be going on tour? I bet that you are a big One Direction fan. Everyone is now a days,” he said with a laugh. It took me a minute to find my voice. I have never been very good at talking to boys, especially cute ones.
“Umm. They are all right. They have great voices and catchy songs but I’ve never really been into the whole boy band thing,” I said finally.
Ashton nodded and smiled. “Yeah I understand what you mean. They are great guys though. We play instruments so we aren’t considered a boy band. Maybe you’ll like our music.”
“Guess we’ll have to see. So what instrument do you play?” I asked.
“I am the drummer,” Ashton said. Ah that would explain the muscular arms. “But I also sing occasionally. It’s kinda hard to sing and drum at the same time.” I nodded understanding.
“I play guitar!” Michael said joining our conversation. I smiled and nodded and then looked towards Calum.
“I play the bass guitar and sing,” Calum said looking proud.
“Cool. I wish I could play an instrument,” I said. I had always been able to sing but I was challenged when it came to playing an instrument.
“Well maybe I can teach you drums! It’s not that difficult and I am a great teacher,” Ashton said with another perfect smile. I felt his eyes bearing into me. Was he checking me out? I hope so….he’s way cute. I laughed nervously and nodded. This tour could definitely end up being fun.
“I swear I’ve seen you before. Did we go to school together?” Calum said turning to me.
“Umm no I don’t think so. I would have remembered you.” I said. He continued looking at me puzzled.
Just then the door opened and a person walked in. I felt my stomach drop and my mouth fall open. There standing in the doorway was Luke. Not just the member of 5 Seconds of Summer, but MY Luke. My Luke was their Luke. Wait what?
“Hey everyone, sorry I’m la—” he stopped short when he made eye contact with me. Suddenly his eyes went cold, and his face went blank. I felt my stomach burn in embarrassment.
He was still mad.
