"Wait behind for a sec please, Daisy." Ed calls to me, not looking up from his papers as everybody is leaving the lecture. George brushes past me, still looking so angry. I just try to ignore it. As soon as everybody's gone Ed looks up at me and grins.
"I have an opportunity for you." he says.
"Have you?" I ask curiously, reaching into a bowl onto his desk and eating a sweet.
"Yes." he says, still smiling excitedly. "I have found the coolest little internship for you. It was really difficult and I had to pull some strings but it's perfect and you're going to love it. You like films and TV and stuff don't you? That's the journalism route you wanna go down, right?"
I nod, smiling at him. "Yeah."
"Well there's this magazine based literally around the corner from here, it's a big magazine, and it has a film review section and I have got you an internship to see how it works, to help out, maybe write a couple of reviews or articles or something. Are you excited?"
"Yes!" I exclaim. I want to hug him but that's probably inappropriate when we're anywhere else but his house. "Yes, oh my god, thank you!"
He chuckles. "It's okay! I have all these forms and stuff here that you have to give in and a schedule for you to look over but it's yours!"
"Thank you so much!" I grin, glancing at the clock. "Okay, I have to run, I'm going to lunch with Winnie and I'm really late. I'll be over later on."
"You staying the night?"
"Uh, yeah sure." I smile. "Okay, thank you so so much again, see you later."
He chuckles. "Bye."
I get to lunch and Winnie's already sat down and she's already ordered for me. I sigh and smile at her sheepishly as I sit down across from her.
"I'm sorry. Thank you for ordering." I say.
"No problem." she grins. "What did Sir want after the lecture?"
I tell her all about this internship. It's so exciting to be talking about, I feel like I've been waiting for the future forever and now the future is happening. We chat about it and go over the schedules and Google the magazine and it's just all so exciting. And then the conversation takes a different turn.
"So, I had a chat with George yesterday, you know?" she says, stirring her straw around her drink.
I raise my eyebrows. "Yeah?"
She pauses. "Did you cheat on him?"
I look at her, shocked. "No! Winnie, no, of course I didn't!"
"Well are you seeing anybody now?" she asks.
"No!" I protest, shaking my head. "No, Winnie, it's not anything like that. I just really don't think I have room for a boyfriend right now. I just don't think I'm the kind of person who can concentrate on their studies and a boyfriend. It was just more fair on him."
"I can believe that." she nods. "He doesn't though. He's convinced it was somebody else."
"Who else would it be though?"
She shrugs. "No idea. He'll get over it."
"I hope so." I sigh.
