"Hey." Winnie whispers to me during a History lecture a few days later.
I snap out of my daze and I'm a little horrified to realise I haven't even been listening, just looking at Edward for the past twenty minutes. I really don't want to go down this road of feeling things like this for him. It's just complicated and I don't like complicated things. I like things that are simple and allowed.
"Yeah?" I whisper back.
"I have something kind of awkward to ask you."
I frown. "What is it?"
"I have a friend."
I frown still but smile too. "Great."
She laughs. "You know when we went out the other night? Well I actually found someone from my this class who I hadn't really spoken to before." she pauses, scanning everybody. "You see him, there?"
I follow her gaze and see a boy sat a few rows in front of us. He has light brown, curly hair and he looks quite tall, he looks like he's just getting past that phase that teenage boys go through where they look really stretched out when they're tall. He's good looking, I have to say.
"Yeah." I whisper back.
"Well I've been speaking to him for the past few days and he says he likes you." she smiles, still looking at him and then back at me. "His name's George. He says he's liked you since the first day when you talked back to Mr Feyson. He says he's kind of been watching you during class but he told me not to tell you that because it sounds creepy."
I blush, smiling down at my notebook. "That's actually sweet. What did you want to ask?"
"If you'd maybe go on a date with him?" she suggests hopefully. "He hasn't decided when he wants to ask you yet, I just want to sort of bring you together. Will you say yes when he asks you?"
I'll definitely say yes. I'm terrified of feeling more than friendship for Edward, a date with somebody who I actually could be with one day is just what I need. Plus, I think I'd go either way. It's fun to go on dates and George seems sweet.
I nod. "Yeah, I'd like that."
Winnie grins. "Great."
She 'sort of brings us together' after the lecture. I meant to stop to talk to Edward but she literally dragged me out of the building and over to George who was sat on the side of a fountain, scrolling through his phone.
"George!" Winnie says, enthusiastically.
He glances up. "Winnie!" he mimics her and then spots me. He smiles a little. "Hi."
"Hello." I say, smiling back.
"Well, I have to go." Winnie says. "See you both later."
I stare after her as she leaves and turn back to face him. He raises an eyebrow.
"I'm sorry, that was so weird of her." he says.
I smile shaking my head. "Don't worry about it. She's a strange one."
He laughs. "Yeah she is. It might have had a little something to do with the fact that I mentioned you to her."
"You did?" I ask, sitting next to him.
"Yeah." he nods. "I may or may not have said that I'd like to take you to dinner some time."
I feel myself blush again and I smile at him. "Well, I may or may not like to go."
He raises his eyebrows, still smiling. "Well, I may or may not be suggesting that I'll pick you up at seven on Friday if that works for you."
"That may or may not work for me."
He looks at me for a moment and then chuckles. "Awesome. Well, I'll see you on Friday."
