6. Chapter 4

Normally when my alarm wakes me up I'd knock it off but today... Well today is different. I want the music to drown me out, I want to forget about everything, I want to be alone.

My wants were destroyed as I heard my brother knocking on the door.

"Go away." I pull the duvet over my head. I heard the door open.

"Sorry about getting in so late last night, I came in to apologise but you were fast asleep."

"Can you please leave, I'm tired."

"Unfortunately it's Tuesday Kait, not Saturday so I suggest you get out of bed and get ready for school."

"I don't want to go to school." My words were muttered.

"Yeah and I don't want to be stuck with morning duties when it comes to a grumpy teenager but I haven't escaped that job. Now get up." I heard the door creak but it stopped midway, "I want you downstairs in 20 minutes, you need to have breakfast, I swear you haven't been eating these past few days."

"Why do you care?"

"Because you're my sister. Now hurry up."

I rolled my eyes and shuffled out of bed, I honestly don't have the energy today and I don't know how well my makeup will cover up the black bruise on my cheek.

I swiped my phone up to see I has a message from Aaron...

Tell no one

"You actually got ready in time, bravo." Brett smirked a little causing me to roll my eyes playfully.

"You're actually observant for once, bravo."

"Speaking of me being observant, I've happened to observe the fact that the front room looks like it has been attacked by wolves. What the hell happened last night."

I froze on the spot. What the hell was I supposed to say.

"Oh yeah... That... Erm- Jess came round and we had an argument."

"Since when do arguments result in a lack of padding on the sofa? I know they slide of pretty easily but the last time I checked a bitch fight was with nails; not cushions."

"Yeah well me and Jess do things differently."

"Hmm I can tell..." He handed me a pancake, "eat up."

Just a glance at it makes me feel sick. I can't eat all of that.

"Come on, we don't have all day."

I sighed and slipped onto the chair, cutting the pancake into sections. My hands shook a little as I pushed it past my lips. My nuckles turned white as my grip tightened around the knife and fork. After what felt like an eternity I final forced it down my throat.

"What's that on your cheek?" Shit.

"What do you mean?" I did a pretty good job of sounding confused. I guess the makeup didn't completely camouflage it.

"There's a mark" he walked closer to me, "on your left cheek."

"Oh yeah, I was trying to unplug my phone charger but as I got up I whacked my face of the side of my bed." I emitted a half humorous, half nervous laugh.

"Hmm... Right..." His unconvinced tone caused me to shuffle uncomfortably.

"Are you at Melissa's tonight?" I swiftly changed the topic.

"Nah, she has to take her little brother to swimming practice. Why do you ask?" he raises an eyebrow.

"No reason."

"Correction: No reason except you missed having your super talented and hot brother around."

"Correction: Shut the f*ck up."

"Ouch. That hurt." He pressed his hand to his heart.

"That's a shame."

"You're just jealous because you're nowhere near as perfect as me." He kept a straight face.

I looked down instantly.

"Hey, I was kidding. Lighten up." he nudged me softly as he walked past, "We're going in five so hurry up and get that down you."

I glanced up and watched Brett leave the room. As soon as he was gone I stumbled off the stool like a shot, practically throwing the rest of the pancake in the bin. What he doesn't know can't hurt him.
