I sat next to Jess as the bell rang, signalling lunch.
"We haven't spoke in a while..." I glanced over at her. The next thing I knew she was hugging me tightly.
"I know. I'm sorry. I've been so busy!" She flashed me an apologetic smile.
"It's okay, I've had quite a lot of work too..." I shrugged slightly.
"What about coming round mine tonight? ATY are doing an after tour Twitcam thingy. We should totally watch it together!"
"I want to but Aaron just got back. I promised him I'd go to his." Even though I didn't want to.
"What happened to sisters before misters?" she raises an eyebrow.
I sigh slightly, "I'll talk to him and see what he says..."
"Well get your ass over there." She smirked. I shot her a confused glance.
"What do you...." I trailed off as I followed Jess' gaze, Aaron had just entered the cafeteria. Great.
"Okay, okay." I stood up and nervously clicked my fingers. My pace was slow as I tried to stay calm, looking nervous was a habit of mine.
"Hey Aaron." I smiled slightly.
"Hey baby." He pulled me closer, pressing his lips to mine before pulling away, "What's up?"
"Me and Jess have an English assignment to finish for tomorrow so I need to go round her's tonight." Wait... What? Where did that come from? And since when were my lies that smooth?
"It's fine babe. I have some debrief gang stuff to take care of for the next couple of nights so I was going to cancel on you anyway." He shrugged. I felt completely relieved.
"Oh, okay then. I better go and tell Jess I can go. Thank you, I love you." I grinned towards him.
"Love you too baby." He gave me one last squeeze before I skipped over to the table.
"I can come. Aaron has some other arrangements." I continued to grin. I feel like I've done something right whenever Aaron is happy around me.
Jess squealed as she pulled me down to my seat, "You can even sleep over if you want?"
"I'd love to! I'll have to get Brett to cover for me though... My parents are back." I slouched as I reminded myself of the harsh reality.
"I don't like your parents." She said casually.
"You don't like many people."
"I like you."
"Yeah that's what you keep telling me."
"Your conversations could keep me entertained all day." Connor stated as he sat down at the table along with Alexia and Felicity.
"Glad to know we amuse you." Playful sarcasm was evident in my voice.
"Oh, you do." He smiled cheekily, "So about this other math paper, when's best for you?"
Holy Obama I totally forgot about that. I don't know how well this is going to work out with Aaron AND my parents back before they originally planned.
"Erm probably tomorrow night." Aaron said he was busy so it's probably best to get it out if the way while he's occupied elsewhere.
"So you're coming round mine, yeah?" He took a bite of his pasty.
"Oooo Kaitlyn and Connor sitti-" I cut Jess' little sing-song off as I nudged her.
"I have a boyfriend Jess. A boyfriend who has ears and is very good at eavesdropping." I cautiously glanced back at Aaron but he seemed to be distracted by Amber 'big tits' Murphy. Ugh.
"Yeah and he's a dooche bag." she followed my gaze, "He's such a dick. I totally ship Connorlyn!" an excited squeal escaped Jess' lips.
Well, this was embarrassing.
"Nooo." Me and Connor answered together.
"Aww in sync denial! That's the start of every relationship." She threw Connor a dirty wink before smirking at me.
"Yeah I can't see that happening..." El said, lacking optimism. That was harsh.
Con instantly looked down and blushed. Was it out of embarrassment? Humiliation, perhaps?
Clearly no one knew except Felicity who was smirking to herself. She can be pretty bitchy when she wants to be.
Silence continued to consume the table. I couldn't take this any longer.
"We have history and I honestly don't feel like getting another late mark because I was 8 seconds past the bell." I grumbled as I stood up. I really don't like our teacher.
"What is the meaning of this despicable crime?" Jess imitated Mr.Jacksons last reaction towards us when we were literally like five seconds late.
I laughed and rolled my eyes, "I can't wait to get out of this place."
"So what time is this twitter thing?" I asked as I followed Jess into her house.
"I think it's eight o'clock but I'm not sure."
"Well you better be sure. I missed learning about the American west for two fricken hours, all I could focus on was you blabbing about Jake. Who STILL has a girlfriend, may I just add."
"No you may not." She glared at me but I just laughed.
"Is that Kaitlyn I hear?" Allison, Jess' mum, popped her head out of the kitchen.
"It is indeed Mrs.Bailey." Allison has always been like a mum to me. Sometimes I wish she adopted me instead of Sheila.
"Nonsense! How many times have I told you to call me Ali, hmm?" She rushed up to me pulling me into a tight hug.
"Sorry, Ali!" my voice was quiet as her hug continued to tighten.
"Mom get off you're crushing her! Jeez..." Jess tugged at Ali to let go, eventually Mrs.Bailey retreated.
"Are you staying for tea?" She was always so happy. Not like my mum.
"It that's okay with you." I quickly added.
"Of course it is girlie! You're always welcome here Kait." She flashed one last smile before disappearing back into the kitchen.
I looked down at my phone as it started to ring. Sh*t I forgot to message Brett. I quickly answered, "Hi bro!.... Yeah I know.... Can you do me a favour?.... Could you just cover for me please?.... I'm at Jess', you know mum and dad don't like her." I heard head huff causing me to hold in my giggle, "Listen, you owe me one!... Excuse me but you left my ass there alone last night, I'm just returning the favour... I will I promise!... Bye, love you."
I ended the call.
"You and your brother have such a weird relationship."
"It's the same as every other sibling relationship."
"Luckily I don't have to go through that sibling shizzle. The joys of being an only child."
"Shush you. Brett is great."
"Yeah but I'm greater." She smirked before making her way upstairs. Jess was so pretty. Her hair was also blonde but it was lighter than mine, she was also smaller than me but only by a couple of inches.
"Wait up!" I rushed up the staircase and stepped into her room.
"I don't know about you but I'm getting ready for bed now. I can't be arsed to take my makeup off when I'm half asleep. I end up with major panda eyes the day after." She shut the blinds before taking her top and jeans off.
F*ckinh hell. My makeup. When I take it off she will see the bruises. Oh God, and the gash on my head. What the hell am I supposed to do?
"I'll just wait until later." I shrugged, "but I do want to get out of these clothes. I put on the wrong jeans and I've been uncomfortable all day."
"Here, stick these on." She threw me one of her ATY jumpers and a pair of leggings, "obviously they're not going to fit because your minuscule but it's better than nothing."
I ignored her comment about my appearance as I caught the clothes, "Thank you."
I turned around and headed into her bathroom, "I'll be back in a sec."
The last thing I saw was her worried look before the door shut.
I slammed my shoulder into the bathroom door to force it open. I have been to this house a hundred times and that door has never been normal once. Jess keeps saying it's getting sorted but we all know she's bullsh*tting.
"Why were you in the bathroom?" she had the same worried look on her face as she did ten minutes ago.
"Huh?" I tilted my head in confusion.
"Why do you get changed in the bathroom?"
"Why do you ask?" I placed my folded clothes on the chair my ass previously occupied.
"Ever since Aaron started getting into serious sh*t with his gang you've been getting changed in the bathroom. Away from everyone. I find it hard to believe that's just a coincidence."
"What are you trying to say?"
"I don't know. What am I trying to say?"
"Don't play these games with me Jess. Whatever you're thinking, stop. Just stop."
"No. I'm not going to stop. I'm worried about you Kait. Over the past few months you've changed. Has Aaron done something to you?"
"No! No he hasn't. I'm lucky to have a guy like him Jess. Why can't you see that? He loves me."
"The way he was eyeing up Amber today really shows how much he loves you." she scoffed.
Tears instantly pricked up in my eyes. I can't believe she would say something like that. My best friend.
Her eyes widened as what she just said sunk in, "Oh my gosh Kaitlyn I am so sorry." Jess covered her mouth with her hand.
My eyes stayed focused on the ground. I was trying my best to stop myself from crying.
"I'm so so sorry Kait. That was completely wrong of me. If Aaron makes you happy then I'm happy for you. You know I'm just looking out for you, I would hate to find out that he has been treating you badly." her voice softened and she shuffled further towards me.
"It's okay I guess." I mumbled
"No it's not okay. It was completely out of order."
"It's okay Jess. I forgive you. I guess I understand... I would probably say the same to you if I disagreed with a relationship you were in."
"Too bad I'm too ugly to attract any guys." She emitted a small laugh, trying to lighten the mood.
"Shut up, bitch. You're beautiful." I cracked a sad smile.
"Girls! Dinner's ready!" Ali interrupted what was almost the start of an awkward silence.
"Coming mum!" I trailed behind Jess. Just as we were about the leave the room she stopped and turned round to face me, "I just don't want to see you getting hurt."
Too late for that.
