Dead Anyway

Emily Odell doesn't have the best life. When a hurricane hits and kills the family she loves, it's even worse. In the aftermath, the item left in the rubble she's most interested in is a business card. Weird much? Well, the card has the address of some crazy old gypsy lady on it, and Emily gets the idea that this woman might have something to do with the odd fact that everyone in the house but her died. Meeting the gypsy has a death curse involved, and Emily is determined to make the last days of her life the most memorable. But will she have enough time before death?

6. Two Things

When we arrive, I'm still pressed into the heavenly soft upholstery of Maxwell's passenger seat. I've never seen anyone drive so fast. I reach for the door, but a warm hand pushes mine away ever so gently. "Allow me," says Maxwell, making me want to melt. He opens the door for me and pulls me out of the car and onto my feet. "Thank you, Maxwell," I say. "Oh, call me Max," he laughs. "Okay, Max," I grin. "Well, I'll be back to pick you up... when?" he asks. "In an hour," I say. Whatever I am to do here, I should be finished by then. "You got it," he says. And then he's speeding off in that glossy black Cadillac. I knew two things now. One, I was about to put myself in great danger. And two, I was positively and unconditionally in love with Maxwell.
