Dead Anyway

Emily Odell doesn't have the best life. When a hurricane hits and kills the family she loves, it's even worse. In the aftermath, the item left in the rubble she's most interested in is a business card. Weird much? Well, the card has the address of some crazy old gypsy lady on it, and Emily gets the idea that this woman might have something to do with the odd fact that everyone in the house but her died. Meeting the gypsy has a death curse involved, and Emily is determined to make the last days of her life the most memorable. But will she have enough time before death?

17. Blackout

I stumble into the store with tears running down my cheeks. I grab a six pack of beer and slam it down on the counter with my credit card. "You're over 21, miss?" Interrogates the cashier. "O'course," I say shrilly. I pay for the beer and sit myself down on the curb outside. I crack the first bottle and drain it in a few gulps. It's actually not bad. I never knew myself to be someone who'd TRY to get drunk, but I gotta keep my imminent death off my mind. I crack and gulp the second bottle, and by the third I'm sloshing it down my shirt. On the fourth, the bottle slips and shatters halfway through. I feel foggy on the fifth. On the sixth, I break down crying. That's the end of the pack. I get up, stagger to the car, and get beer on the upholstery. I make it home fine again. I'm almost there, when suddenly black spots alter my vision. They get bigger until they consume my entire world and I fall.
