I put my backpack down and sat down at the table. I knew there was going to be a family meeting. I wanted to skip it but I knew my mom would get pissed if I did. My father got home about five minuetes later and sat down too. My mother sat down and took a breath. I don't even know why we have these stupid family meetings. All we end up doing is fighting.
My mom opened her pills and took two. My father rubbed his eyes and looked at my mother then me. Then I found them both looking at me.
"We got a call from the school" my mother started.
"About?" I asked.
"Your principal said you have been skipping class lately" she said.
"For good reasons" I began to say.
"I doubt that" my mother said as she took out a cigarette and lit it.
"Still smoking mom?" I asked as I crossed my arms. My mom had promised to stop smoking a week ago and every day since then I see her sneak outside to "get fresh air". Otherwise known as smoke.
"This has nothing to do with your mother" my father said. Of course, my father always getting into the conversation he was never invited too. I hate how father's do that.
I rolled my eyes. "Did you make dinner?" He asked her.
She exhaled smoke and shook her head.
"When does she ever" I mumbled as I got up.
"Sit down were not done with this conversation" he said.
"No go. Me and your father have something's to talk about".
"What am I suppose to eat for dinner? There's nothing in the fridge" I asked as I walked over to where she was sitting.
She handed me a five dollar bill that was down her shirt. "Buy yourself something at the drug store across the street".
I rolled my eyes and walked and didn't shut the door all the way, to listin.
"I was checking the phone bills the other day.." My mother said.
"Okay" father said.
"I saw the calls you have been making to Marie Kepler".
"They were just about work" my father replied without hesitation. My mother stood up and walked around the table.
"What about the texts?" She asked.
"Just say it Lorane" he said.
"You dirty asshole" my mother said.
My father laughed.
"I can't believe you" mother said as she sat back down.
I had heard enough. I walked over to the store and bought chips. I came back and they were in bed. I walked up into my room and finished my homework and ate my chips. I fell asleep doing English.
I woke up to my alarm. I got dressed and did my makeup. I walked downstairs to get my backpack. My mother and father were standing there whispering. "Berniece, we need to talk" my mother said.
Me, my father, and mother all sat at the table. "I've decided to move out" my father.
"You decided or mom made you?" I asked sarcastically.
"I decided" he said quickly.
"But you arnt going to" I said.
"Yeah I am. I'm all packed already".
"You can't. You support us. Mom doesn't work for shit" I said.
"Watch your mouth! My mother added.
"I'm sorry" he said as he stood up.
"You can't go" I said.
He walked over and left. Without a hug or anything.
"I'm s-" my mom began to say.
"No you arnt, I have to get to school" I said.
I stood up and walked back upstairs. I emptied my backpack and stuffed two shirts and two pairs of jeans. I walked into my mothers bedroom and went through her bra drawer and found the six hundred bucks she had there. I put in my backpack. I out in a pair of underwear and a bra. I grabbed my toothpaste and toothbrush. I stuffed my foundation and mascara in there. That's all I could fit. I walked out.
I walked to the front door as I heard my mom say "see you later".
But she wouldn't.
