"You have to meet him! He's perfect for you!" Layla's blonde hair bounces as she talks excitedly.
"Just because I don't have a boyfriend doesn't mean I need one to be happy, Layla." Jocelyn responds quietly, "I'm perfectly fine without one. And just because he's your boyfriend's best friend doesn't mean he's perfect for me."
"Please? At least meet him?" Layla pleads.
"Let me think about it. I have to get to class. See you later." Jocelyn tightens her hold on her binder and walks away quickly, hoping she isn't late for first period.
Jocelyn finds an empty lunch table and sits down, waiting for Kathryn to come sit with her. She sits and watches the doorway to the cafeteria with her blue eyes, and Kathryn soon comes jogging in, her straight brown hair in a ponytail, flipping about.
"Jocelyn! Alicia is still going off about Aaron. It's a bit annoying to think about all day. She needs to get over him and quick." She says, quickly throwing her bag on the table.
"Someone is hyper today, I mean, you don't usually jog in here or say that much as soon as you see me."
"Well, I may have been asked to homecoming by a really cute guy today." She blushes and looks down at her feet.
"Only the guy I've been crushing on since, like, 4th grade!" Her grin widens and she looks even
"Yep! And I so need to get you a date. You can't go by yourself!" She grabs her phone from her bag and looks around, seeming to look for a good suitor for Jocelyn to go to the dance with.
"I don't need a date, as I'm not going. The key word in homecoming for me is home. I will come home from school the day of the homecoming game, and stay home through the dance the next day. It sounds much better than going to some 'Masquerade Ball'.I mean, I'd have to get a dress, and a mask, and that's just too much effort for me."
"Come on! Please come, for me?" She pouts her lip and folds her hands.
"No." Jocelyn crosses her pale arms.
"Fine, let's go get lunch."
"Sounds like a fantastic idea! And while we're at it, why don't we talk about what you're going to wear?"
"Oh my gosh! The dress is the prettiest blue I've seen in my entire life and the mask matches perfectly!" Kathryn continues on, but Jocelyn's mind slowly wanders from the lunch line and what she's saying to whether or not she should meet this mysterious boy that Layla was talking about earlier that day. She knows he could be a complete psychopath, but why would her best friend tell her to meet him if he was? She continues to ponder these thoughts throughout lunch and into history class.
