"They're dead," The social security worker said simply, "The child is blessed that he has not even a scratch." My mouth dropped open,
"But... How?" The woman smiled,
"There was an angel with him, I know it."
"Wow," I whispered. She cleared her throat,
"Down to business. Considering you are of legal age are you going to adopt Ollie?" The possibility had never even run through my mind. At least not recently. I'd always pushed it out, knowing that I could never handle a small child on my own when I'd barely graduated high school.
"I-I," My throat went dry. I looked down at my hands and felt a headache coming on.
"I know it's a big decision considering your only eighteen," She interrupted, "But unless you or someone you know can adopt him he's going back into foster care." I closed my eyes and let out a shaky breath. I opened them back up and readjusted the baseball cap on my head.
"Will you excuse me?" I whispered as I stood up and left the room. Walking out of the hospital doors, I sighed and sat on a metal bench. My finger hovered over the button on my phone. I gave in and pushed down.
Calling Louis Tomlinson...
Anna Lee?" His breathless voice came over the phone.
"Hi," I replied quietly. Tear welled up in my eyes.
"Are you okay? Where are you? Do you know you've been gone for three days? What's going on?"
"I'm fine Lou."
"No you aren't. I can tell. Where are you? I'll come get you!"
"I'm in London," I blurted, immediately regretting it.
"London?!" He exclaimed, "What on earth are you doing there? I've been worried sick about you young lady why didn't you reply to any of our calls?"
"Ollie," I said weakly. The line was silent. "His foster parents died in a car accident."
"Why didn't you tell me," He whispered.
"I'm sorry." Tears rolled down my cheeks. Louis sighed,
"We'll be down there tomorrow morning. The boys will come get you and take you back to the house."
"What? No!" I yelled.
"Well where have you been staying?" He demanded. I stayed quiet. "Exactly," He said, "Harry will be there in twenty minutes."
"You're sending Harry?" I questioned.
"We made up. You can't keep Larry Stylinson apart," Louis replied dramatically. I rolled my eyes,
I heard a sound and looked down at my phone. The screen was black. What's wrong with it. Oh gosh. I hope I didn't break it. I tried pressing all the buttons but it didn't really work... At all. Great. I broke my phone, Harry's coming to pick me up, Louis is mad at me and I might have to give Ollie up.
Could it get any worse?
The answer is yes. Paparazzi is here. I sighed frustratedly. Wow. Now I actually want Harry to get here. I pulled my hat further down to cover my face. I hadn't really had to deal with them yet, I'd only heard about them from the boys.
Fifteen minutes later the familiar black SUV pulled up. I stood up, still hiding my face and climbed into the car. I didn't even look over at Harry as he pulled the car out of the hospital parking lot.
We suddenly came to a stop and I looked up to see we were sitting in the McDonald's parking lot. I glanced over at Harry to see worry etched on his face as I stared at me. I quickly looked back down.
"Do you want to talk about it?" He asked in his slow voice. I sighed,
"Not really." I saw him nod out of the corner of my eye. He swung open his door and stepped out of the car. I barely noticed.
"Anna Lee?" My head snapped over to Harry. He had opened my door and was waiting for me. I clicked the buckle open and hopped out of the car.
"Sorry," I muttered.
"It's fine babe," He replied. We walked into the empty McDonald's silently. "Do you want anything?" He asked. I shook my head. "You can sit down then." I spun on my heel and chose a booth in the back. Five minutes later Harry came and sat down in the booth with three trays of food. I stared at him like he was crazy. He laughed,
"Niall begged me to stop and get something."
"Gotcha." Harry moved most of the food aside and placed a box of chicken nuggets and a chocolate milkshake in front of me.
"What's going on Al? Louis just said to go get you and he'll be here with Jay and the girls tomorrow."
"Al?" I questioned. Harry rolled his eyes,
"Figures after that you would only hear Al," He paused, "That's yo nickname." I raised an eyebrow,
"A is for Anna. L is for Lee," He replied in a 'duh' tone.
"Oh." We grew silent as I moved the chicken nuggets around the tray.
"You never answered my question." I looked up from my plate to see Harry's eyes staring directly into mine.
"Can we talk about this later?" I whispered.
"No Al we need to-"
"Oh my gosh are you Harry Styles?" A girl said excitedly.
"No, who is Arry?" He replied in a high pitched nasal voice, "And who are you?" He looked her up and down in disgust. I tried to hold in my giggles. "You are interrupting time with my bestie here girl."
"Oh," the girl looked embarrassed, "I'm sorry." I let out a giggle and Harry smirked,
"It's fine love, do you want an autograph?"
"I knew it was you!" She squealed. Harry put a finger to his lips,
"Shhh. Please don't tell people. I need to get out of here first." She cracked a smile,
"I would never! Would you sign this?" She handed him her phone. He nodded,
"Who should I make it to?"
"Ana," She said, "Spelled A-N-N-A. Like Anna." Harry quickly signed it and handed it back to her.
"Oh by the way, I ship you two harder than a rock," Anna smiled, spun around, and left.
"That was weird..." I declared, looking at Harry with an eyebrow raised.
"Agreed," Harry quickly replied. An awkward silence quickly surrounded us. I stirred the milkshake with my straw. Harry cleared his throat,
"Are you ready to go?" I nodded and we got up and left McDonald's.
Soon enough we were back to the house. We sat in the car for a moment. I stared at the familiar house and suddenly clicked my seatbelt open and jumped out of the car. Harry came around to my side of the car and we walked to the door. He tried to open it.
"Where's your key?" I demanded. He grinned sheepishly,
"I forgot it." I sighed,
"Where are the boys?"
"Inside," He replied looking down.
"You, Harry Styles, are an idiot." I turned around and pressed the doorbell. Thundering footsteps were heard before the door swung open and I was met face to face with Niall.
"ANNA LEE!" He yelled, immediately squeezing me (to death!).
"Niall," I choked, "Can't breathe."
"Oh sorry." Niall let go and I let out a deep breath. He was bouncing like a three-year-old.
"Are you okay?" I asked. He nodded enthusiastically. Liam walked into the room and froze when he saw Niall bouncing.
"Niall James Horan. What did I say about redbull?" He demanded. Niall's smile turned into a frown.
"Redbull is not for Niall. Niall should not drink redbull. When Niall drinks redbull Pauly thinks Niall is on drugs. Niall is not on drugs," Niall recited. I pursed my lips together to keep from laughing. I looked at Harry to see him doing the same. Liam was scowling at Niall,
"Niall has been bad. Go to your room." Niall hung his head.
"I do not like the cone of shame," He said with a sigh as he walked up the stairs.
Once Niall was out of sight, Harry burst into laughter. I let out a few giggles before remembering why I was here. I quickly grew solemn. Liam noticed my change in mood and looked at me quizzically.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah," I replied, "I just have a lot to think about."
