Seventeen-year-old Sophia looked up from her Bakugan ability cards, Fenix mirroring her. "Yeah?" she called back.
"Can you come here for a minute, please?"
Sophia looked down at Fenix. "Gimme a sec!" she said and quickly started packing up.
"I wonder what it is?" Fenix asked.
"You say that like I know." Sophia rolled her eyes as she put her cards in their usual place on her desk. Fenix flew onto her shoulder as she hurried out.
She walked out of her room, down the hallway and out into the lounge to find her parents standing with a young girl about twelve years old. She had long white hair in a braid, the end of her bangs dyed neon orange. She had wire-rimmed glasses, behind which red eyes were filled with curiosity mixed with a bit of fear.
"Um...?" Sophia began, unsure of what to say. The girl looked up and adjusted her glasses, studying Sophia carefully.
"Sophie, this is Luna Nevermore." Her Father put a hand on Luna's shoulder. "She'll be living with us from now on."
"Living with us?"
"She's been living in the orphanage since she was born, dear." Her Mother explained. "We invited her to come live with us."
Sophia smiled and walked over, her plait swaying with her steps. She held a hand out to Luna. "Welcome to the family, Luna. My name's Sophia, it's nice to meet you."
Luna hesitated, then shook Sophia's hand. "Nice to meet you too." She looked at Fenix and her eyes widened. "You're a Ventus Bakugan, correct?" she asked smartly.
"Indeed." Fenix replied. "My name is Ventus Fenix."
"Fenix? I've seen you on the internet. From what I've read, you're a pretty powerful Bakugan. Your most common ability is Tornado Storm, which increases your G-power by 150 Gs while at the same time blowing your opponent off the battlefield. It's incredible, really!"
Sophia was stunned. This girl was smart. After a long moment of silence, she smiled and said, "Wait here for thirty seconds." She hurried back to her room and after a quick hunt through her not-so-clean room she found what she was looking for, and walked out.
She held out a red Baku-pod to Luna. "If you're going to be around me for the rest of your life, you're gonna need one of these."
Luna took it. "But isn't it yours?" She asked, her voice shaking slightly.
Sophia shrugged. "It's my emergency one. You may as well have it. You'll need it." She winked.
Luna smiled and strapped it onto her wrist.
