6. The Characters

Do you really want me to get into it?
You probably don't.

The deja vu could have KILLED me, people. It seriously got to a point where I was reading Four as Haymitch, Tobias as Gale (Four and Tobias are the same person, I'll explain), Al as Peeta and Peter as Cato. Tori didn't strike me as a Cinna while I was reading, but now that I've thought about it, she does. I was surprised there wasn't a Rue. The plotline may not be based on the Hunger Games, but a number of subtle details are clearly cannibalised from it.

~Tris~
Erudite, Abnegation, Dauntless.
Translation: Smart, Selfless, Brave.
Perfect candidate for lead role in the Hunger Games. And the way her mother did her hair for the aptitude test or Choosing Day (Choosing Day, as well) and the way she admired herself in the mirror when Christina was done dressing her up. The way she's treated and ignored by most of her peers, coming from the most railed-on district, even though she was the first jumper.
Tris seems to be the Katniss that picks Gale over Peeta (while Peeta conveniently commits suicide after regretting the pain he caused Katniss/Tris/whatever).

~Four/Tobias~
Just to be clear, I like Four. He tends to keep a low profile and he's the character that builds the most intrigue in the story. But I liked him more when he was Four (although, Tobias is alright).
In the beginning, Four struck me as the caring asshole character (like Haymitch). I think that's why I found it insanely creepy when he and Tris... become an item? I don't have an issue with age. I think the age gap is fine, I just saw Four as an older brother character (and an instructor) to Tris and then all the romance just made me cringe. I also didn't realise he was eighteen from the beginning. I thought he was a lot older.

~The Others~
Al is a tough looking guy, but is extremely sensitive. He's prone to crying and doesn't enjoy hurting people, which is why he ended up among the lowest ranking initiates. He did not deserve to die, although I suspected it would happen as it did. The guy was so sensitive, after all. [That was the other thing. The story was predictable at some points. I guessed that Tobias was from Abnegation back when he told Tris that he refused to be a government member]. But anyway, Al's death was horrible and frankly unnecessary.

I think Veronica Roth might be a Gatniss fanatic.
[I think that was the most immature thing I've ever said].

Peter is an all-out Cato. All-out. He stabs Edward in the eye to get to the top [which I also guessed would happen... In terms that something bad was going to happen to Edward, not that he specifically going to get stabbed in the eye] and then even tries to kill/scare Tris by attempting to throw her into the chasm for the same reasons. There's even the slight face-off between them at the end (only Peter doesn't die, so).

Christina and Will strike me as the typical Ron and Hermione pair (they even get together, lol) - Will being the smartass and Christina being the fun-lover.

Before I finish up, I just want express an opinionated, but slightly irrelevant opinion:
I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT WHEN MY FAVOURITE CHARACTERS ARE KILLED OFF. ROTH KILLS OFF NOT ONE, BUT TWO OF THEM IN THE SAME BOOK.
IN THE SAME BLOODY TIME SPACE.
WILL AND TRIS'S MOTHER.
WHYYYYYYY?
