1. Review of Rose, Season 1, Episode 1
Hello, I'm TheNerdWriter helping Doctor Who 23 with this movella. The episode I'll be reviewing is Rose. The first episode of the modern series, starring Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper as The Doctor and Rose, this episode features the Autons, muderous living plastic creatures. Now, onto the review!!
The plot of store mannequins coming to life and trying to kill everyone is nothing new. (Cough, Terror of the Autons, cough.) But this episode puts to whole new level. Unlike Terror of the Autons, we actually get to see the plastic killers break through the glass. The whole conspiracy theory and Clive about the Doctor feels a bit weak to me. Other than that, excellent.
As usual, the acting from the Doctor and Rose is fantastic. The bit with Plastic Mickey stuttering the word "pizza" is...well, dumb. The Doctor's speech about feeling Earth's rotation and all that is superb, and Clive's little quote about his companion being death is also cool.
I'm not gonna sugarcoat it: the effects sucked. Now, I know the budget was kinda low at the time, COME ON, BBC!!! This is your MOST POPULAR show!!! Give it more of a budget!! Now that little rant is over, let's talk more about it. The TARDIS bigger on the inside cuts are pretty good, and the demat/remat is good, but that one part with the laser coming off the London Eye was terrible. That's all I have to say.
