5. Sting, Sore and Summer?

Tuesday, 23rd September 2014

*Asher*

"Argh!" Asher clutched his chest. What was that?

"Woah! You okay bro?" Isaac stared at Asher with a bewildered look on his face.

"I-I'm alright. I just..." Asher scratched his head. "I don't know."

"Okay."

There it is again. Asher gasped.

"Seriously bro, you okay?" Isaac put his textbook down and got up from his bed, which was across from Asher's.

"I'm fine, I just felt something in my chest."

"Want a water?"

"Sure."

"Ice?" Asher shivered and shook his head.

"No thanks. It's kinda' cold tonight."

"Won't be cold for much longer. It's almost summer. I'll be back in a sec." Isaac turned and headed for the stairs.

Asher shivered again. Summer. Summer. Why does that word make me feel all.. weird? Asher glanced at the wall. 3AM. Ow! He clutched his chest again as Asher felt a sting. This is getting weird. Maybe I'm just like, super tired. Yes, no school tomorrow! But seriously, summer. I kind of remember it from somewhere. Or maybe not. For goodness sake, it's a season! Of course I remember the word summer, summer comes every year.

"Got your water, bro. Should get some sleep, it's 3AM. I'm turning in. Night." Isaac turned off his bedside lamp and pulled up his covers.

"Night." Asher shook his head and dropped his head onto his pillows.

Summer. Summer. Summer. Asher tried to fall asleep as he felt stings in his chest and on his cheek. And a strangely sore eye.

"Ugh..." Asher rolled over and opened one eye. 1PM. Asher rolled back to the other side of the bed. 1PM?! "Oh crap!" Asher shot up and turned to look to Isaac's bed, on the right side of his. "Ow...." He closed his eyes again and held his head in his hands. Why do I feel like I haven't slept all night? And.. Oh goodness.. I feel horrible.

"Asher!" Isaac bounded into the room then stopped when he saw Asher's bloodshot eyes. "Woah! You okay, bro?" Isaac walked over to Asher's bed. "You look like you haven't slept all night!"

"But I did. But I feel horrible." Asher moaned.

"You probably have a fever or something." The caring older brother placed his hand on the younger brother's forehead.

"Get off me!" Asher groaned and slid back under the covers. Isaac chuckled.

"I'll get you some more water and give Dad a call. They went to the hospital this morning."

"Huh?"

"Mom's water broke." Isaac shuddered at the thought.

"Ew."

"I'll go ask what's the latest news."

"ISAAC!!" 13-year-old Jarred bounded into Isaac and Asher's room.

"S'up buddy?" Isaac walked over and ruffled the young boy's shiny brown hair affectionately.

"Dad called. Wants to talk to you." Jarred handed the cell phone to Isaac.

"Yello. Yup. Uh-huh. Okay. Yep. Mhm. Yup. Nope. Yep. Bye- Wait! Yeah, uh, Dad, Asher's come down with a fever or somethin', not too sure. Yep. Okay. Yup, bye." Isaac hung up and faced his two younger brothers. "Dad wants us to meet him at the hospital, and Asher, you gotta come along cos' Dad said you might as well get a check-up. 2 birds with one stone, he said."

Asher groaned. "Can't I just go like, tomorrow." It was at this time where Jarred caught a glimpse of Asher's face.

"Woah, what 'appened to you, Ash?"

"Dunno."

"You pulled an all-nighter?"

"Nobody pulls all-nighters during the holidays, bud."

Isaac cleared his throat. "We'd better get ready, Dad sent back Carlson to pick us up."

"Ugh. Fine." Asher rubbed his eyes and dragged himself to the bathroom.

"C'mon buddy, Iet's fix up some quick lunch before we go.", proposed Isaac as he and Jarred left the room.
