Marriage Law: Harry and Ginny

My take on the Marriage Law :) When Harry and Ginny discover that they have been paired for the new Marriage Law, they are ecstatic. But now their task is to raise a family... how will they cope throughout their marriage, and their children?

10. Harry: Preparation

"Ginny, you're only seven months, it's hardly going to be born anytime soon!" I say exasperatedly.

"Hugo was!" Ginny insists, picking several tiny babygros out of the drawer, folding them and putting them back.

"Yes, but you're fine, Gin. Nothing like that's happened to you."

Ginny sends me a withering look and I flinch. She's quite scary when she's pregnant. "You're not the one carrying the baby, are you?"

I try to drop the subject. "How's Angelina doing?" I ask instead.

"Don't think this conversation's over, mister. And coincidentally, Angelina and little Perry are great. She flooed me this morning. Looked a bit tired though."

"Well, she's got a day old baby, hasn't she?" I reasoned.

"Oh, and she asked us to go to St Mungo's at around 12, she wants us to see Perry. And -" there was a loud CRACK and Fred appeared. "Fred! How many times do I have to tell you it's rude to apparate directly into the house?"

"I know, but I need you to come with me, Alicia's in labour."

"Ooooooh!" Ginny squeals, angriness forgotten. "How long?"

"They started about midnight, I think, and she's only seven centimetres."

"Harry, we're leaving!"

"Yes, Gin," I say, taking her hand as she takes Fred's. Fred laughs at the look on my face, and then suddenly we're at St Mungo's.

"We'll come with you," Ginny insists. Then, seeing the look on my face, she adds: "I think Angelina wanted to see you, actually."

"I can't believe I've been made godfather to both Perry and Mark," I smile once we're back home.

"Of course you are, Fred and George have wanted to repay you ever since you gave them the TriWizard winnings in your fourth year."

"How did you - "

Ginny just winks and taps her nose. "Anyway, I want you to help me decorate the baby's room."

I pause and then follow her resignedly. "You're going to paint, and then I'm going to do the rest because I don't particularly trust you to do it. We don't know if it's a boy or girl yet, so I think a neutral colour - yellow and white, but not too much white or it'll look like a hospital."

I sigh. Ginny's in full organisation mode.

"OK, OK, Ginny, slow down a moment." I pause to make sure I have her attention. "I think, maybe... I mean, if you want to... We could maybe find out the gender?"

Ginny glares at me.

"A girl." Ginny grins. "Our very own baby girl."

"Purple. Some white, maybe." Ginny tell me, Accioing it and handing it to me. An hour later, the whole room is a lilac colour, with white butterfly outlines in random places. I finish filling in the last butterfly and perform a tricky little charm so that the butterflies flit happily around the room, across the walls and ceiling.

"I'm done, Gin, honey." I call her, crossing my fingers. She peers round the door, her red hair falling over her shoulders, and then beams and hugs me tight.

"It's perfect, Harry," she grins into my shoulder. "Perfect."
