I feel someone shaking my shoulder, and open my eyes and see Louis bent over me. He smiles at me and says, “Hey, we’re home Evie… Come inside and pack your things quickly, okay? Then we have to go pick up the guys.”
I nod a little, yawning, and follow him up to the flat. Harry’s already inside, and Louis pulls down three big suitcases for me. I pack all my clothes, shoes, toiletries, and then the few stuffed animals Louis has given me as gifts and one I’ve had forever. After that I make sure that I have my things for my classes, and double check that I’m not leaving anything behind. Then Louis and Harry take my bags for me and we go over to Niall’s first, and he says that he’ll just take his car, so that way we aren’t too crowded on the way.
Louis and Harry agree, but Harry rides with Niall, and then Louis and I go pick up Zayn. They sit in the front, and I just lay across the middle seat in the back. I’m kind of tired, but not enough to really fall asleep, so I just listen to the music that Louis has playing on the radio, and try to clear my mind to help my head not hurt so much.
After a while, Louis and Zayn start talking about their plan, and how we’re going to Tennessee, and once we’re there, they’ll buy some old piece of land with a house on it in cash, and then we’ll find something to do, and they’ll basically start their ‘business’ over, and mark a new territory. I ask Louis if we can decorate the house at all, you know, make it feel like home, and he nods, saying that as long as I don’t make it all pink or something, I can decide colors and things like that.
After a while we stop for food, and then get right back on the road. Louis said that we have about four hours left, and that I should get some rest so that I’m not tired when we have to take things inside and stuff. I’m about to close my eyes and go to sleep when Louis’s phone rings and he uses the car speaker to answer it. I hear Liam on the phone, “Louis, where the fuck are you all Louis?!”
Louis says, “I don’t see how that’s any of your business since you set us up.”
Liam sighs, “What are you even talking about Louis? This is fucking ridiculous! Are you even still in the city?”
Louis says, “Don’t play dumb with me Liam. You made sure that we would be gone, and then told men exactly where to find Evelyn! They would’ve hurt her, killed her even! You know how I feel about her, and you still did that to me! I don’t understand how you of all people could do that to someone, especially someone who’s supposed to be one of your best friends!”
Liam sighs, “Come on Louis, calm down. Did you ever stop to think that maybe I was just trying to make a point maybe? You never seemed to understand how weak she makes you.”
Louis laughs, “You’re pathetic Liam. That’s not how you go about making a point and you know that. I love Evelyn, and you tried to take that from me. ‘Making a point’ my ass, and we’re all gone. Don’t come looking for us, or maybe you’ll end up being the one with a gun to your head.”
Liam growls, “Don’t you threaten me Louis. I don’t think you know what you’re getting yourself into. I’ll kill Evelyn and then I’ll kill you after you watch her die if you don’t pipe down.”
My eyes widen, and Zayn looks back at me, shaking his head. Louis says, “You stay the fuck away from her or else I’ll kill you Payne. Understand?”
Liam just laughs, and Louis says, “You wish this was a joke,” before he hangs up.
Zayn says, “Don’t worry Evelyn, we’re not going to let him get anywhere near you. Okay? He doesn’t even know where we are, and from the way he talked, it sounds like he hasn’t even left to look for us yet.”
I nod a little, and then Louis says, “You don’t have to be scared princess; I won’t let anything happen to you.”
I nod, and then Louis says, “Get some sleep babe, okay? And please try not to worry.”
I lie back down and close my eyes, curling up under the blankets, and fall asleep.
Evelyn falls asleep after a little bit, and I just can’t believe that Liam would really do that to me. I know how badly everything with Carolyn hurt him, and I just… I thought of all people he would be the one to understand how I feel about Evelyn. I thought that he of all people would help me to keep her safe even if he didn’t like her, not the other way around. We were supposed to be friends, but now it’s like he’s one of my number one enemies. I know that if he ever even tried to harm Evelyn I wouldn’t hesitate to put a bullet in his head.
I know that Liam actually was probably quite serious about what he said, and I’m sure the guys know that too, but I know none of us will let Evelyn think that. I don’t want her to be scared or worry, and I’m sure the guys feel the same. We’re going to protect her, and don’t needing her thinking otherwise.
Evelyn sleeps for the rest of the drive, and we get there around dinner time. We drive around a bit until we find a secluded home that’s got a good amount of land, a huge barn out in the back, and the house itself is quite large as well. We contact the realtor, and she’s actually able to come out tonight since we said we could pay her in cash for the house.
Once we give her the money and she leaves, we take our things inside, and I just let Evelyn stay asleep in the back seat of the car. Once I’ve got an air mattress blown up for the two of us, I carry her inside and set her down. I close our door quietly before grabbing a shirt from the top of my bag and then waking Evelyn halfway.
I help her out of her clothes and into the t-shirt. She mumbles, “Where are we?”
I say, “We found a house. This is our room now.”
She nods a little, and then yawns, and I kiss her forehead, “Get some sleep babe; we’re going to have a long day tomorrow.”
Evelyn curls up on the air mattress, and after I slip out of my clothes I lay down with her as well. I wrap my arms around her waist, and she moves so that her head is lying on my chest. I close my eyes, happy that we found somewhere to stay that’s far away from Liam, and hopefully will be safe for Evelyn for a long time.
