Puzzle Piece

Luke Hemmings is your average "fly under the radar" guy who's taken interest in the new girl, Avery. Avery is quiet with a secret haunting past. Will her baggage be too much for Luke to handle? Or will he be the support Avery needs? Understanding may be more difficult then Luke ever imagined. Read the story "Puzzle Piece" to find out more! 1. There's this girl..

Luke's POV

"SCHOOLS OUT FOR SUMMER....SCHOOLS OUT FOREVER" boomed through the speaker of my alarm clock. School, in fact, was not out. It was December 3rd. I groaned and rolled out of bed in just my boxers to turn off my alarm clock. I quickly pulled on some black skinny jeans and decided to skip the shirt for now so I could spend time on my hair. When I was finished with my hair I put on a blink-182 shirt and a black and red flannel. I quickly put in my lip ring and left my empty house. Before I walked into my school I ran through the drive through to make sure I got my morning coffee. Who starts a day without coffee? I was rather excited for first block today. Not only did I have English first block (my favorite class even though I would never admit that to my friends) the new girl was in there. Avery Michaels. She was way out of my league, all of the popular guys chased her around like puppies, including my best friends, Ashton, Michael, and calum. Even though we are in the same group I was never as admired as they were. Girls were crazy over those three. They threw wild parties and although I was at those parties I typically admired the craziness from afar and flew under the radar. But anyways, Avery wasn't like other popular girls, she didn't care about being popular at all. She was quiet and shy and you could tell she had a lot to say but kept to herself. But god is she beautiful. She is about 5'7 and skinny with soft curves that aren't too exaggerated but not 'hardly noticeable' curves either. Her long wavy/curly hair was a medium-dark brown that complimented her olive skin perfectly. Her eyes were the shapes of almonds filled with a hazel green color. And her lips were naturally a pink rose color. Her beauty was probably the main reason she was so popular, that and the fact that she's only been here a week. When I walked into English I scanned the room for Avery, and there she was in the corner with ear buds in and her face buried in a book. I noticed that a group of jock guys were staring and drooling over her like a pack of wild dogs. As I sat down in my seat which was to her left, i noticed her pretty green eyes intently scanning her book. I guess I stared for too long because she glanced up at me then at her book then at back at me. The second time she looked at me her lips parted and her pupils sightly dilated before turning back to her book. Did I gross her out? Was my stubble distracting? Does she hate lip rings? Her stare made me insecure so I decided to look away quickly. The rest of the class I tried to decipher what music she was listening to by the soft buzz escaping the ear buds. I recognized a few songs, "I miss you" by blink-182, "come as you are" by nirvana, and I recognized "zero" by smashing pumpkins. Her music taste was so similar to mine that it only deepened my interest for her.

Most days after school I would go to this coffee shop around the corner called "Beth's brewery" to study or write music for my pop punk band called "5 seconds of summer". We weren't very popular yet. It was me as lead vocalist and guitar, Michael as lead guitarist, calum as the bassist and Ashton as the drummer. We were good, really good actually. But not famous or anything. When I walked into the coffee shop I ordered a coffee and a slice of Apple pie. I sat down and got to work on the song. All of the chords and notes and what not were written I just had to work on the lyrics. All I had for the chorus so far was "I like the summer rain I like the sounds you make we put the world away we get so disconnected" it was more on the pop side then punk, but either way I liked it. I sat there for another hour or so brainstorming and drinking my coffee and eating pie. I look up for a moment to see the clock on the wall and I notice a familiar girl standing at the counter ordering. It takes me only a moment to realize that the girl was Avery Michaels. She turned around once she had gotten her coffee and saw me. She looked stunning. She had on black skinny jeans, an MTV red tank top with a black and gray flannel. She smiled and walked over to me and gestured towards the extra seat at my table and said "is your girlfriend sitting here?" "Err umm no I don't have a girlfriend.." I managed to spit out after a second or two. "Well good. Can I sit here?"
