The day sluggishly dragged by. Chrystal found herself checking her watch almost every half an hour and sighing tiredly every time. "Somewhere you need to be?" Kelly questioned, impatient with her friend. Chrystal had barely paid attention to her friend the past hour, and sometimes she wouldn't speak for over ten minutes. She'd just stare at her with this vacant expression, chewing nervously on her bottom lip. Kelly would even need to wave her hand erratically in front of her face to bring her attention back to earth. It was odd, Chrystal was being odd. "No sorry, I'm just really tired today," Chrystal said apologetically and as if on queue, she gave a small yawn. Kelly narrowed her eyes suspiciously at her and took a long slurp from her milkshake.
From then on, Chrystal tried harder to make it look like she was listening. She nodded and gave comment when necessary but her mind was elsewhere. It was back at her apartment, with the scarf and she began silently freaking out about what she was going to wear. She again found herself checking her watch. It read 14:47. She again sighed. "CHRYSTAL!" Kelly half shouted. She was angry. Chrystal quickly snapped her head around to her friend and gaped at her, astounded. "I've had it with you!" Kelly said, throwing her little hands up in the air. She was having a major meltdown. Chrystal always struggled to take her seriously when she got like this. Her brown eyes glared at her and she seemed to shake a little. "You either tell me me right now what's going on or I'm leaving," She said firmly. Chrystal composed herself, trying very hard not to laugh at her very angry best friend. She took a deep breath and then burst out laughing. She slapped a hand over her mouth trying to control herself. "That's it! I'm out!" Kelly was seething now, she jumped up from her chair. "Oh please Kelly! Wait," Chrystal said half laughing, grabbing her arm. Kelly shot her a warning look and snatched her arm away, storming away in her little angry rage. Chrystal quickly slapped $50 on the table and ran after her friend.
Kelly was already out the shop by the time Chrystal reached her. "Oh come on Kelly! Don't be like that," She said, trying to sound sincere. Kelly's red head continued to bob away from her. Chrystal had driven them both there in her car. "You can't walk home!" Chrystal shouted after her.
"Watch me!" She retorted. People had started to stare at the two girls arguing in the middle of the street.
"But you'll ruin your shoes!" Chrystal shouted more loudly, noticing for the first time she was wearing her favourite Chanel nude heels. This seemed to have an affect on her friend. She stopped, balled her hands into fists and started walking back in her direction. She held her head high and thrust her chin out determinedly. "Fine, but only because I love my shoes," Kelly hissed, heading in the direction of Chrystal's car.
The car journey was a quiet one, with many failed attempts of conversation on Chrystal's part. Kelly was inconsolable. She just glared out the passenger window, refusing to look at her. Chrystal sighed frustrated. She loved her friend but she could be a right brat at times. This was going to take a lot of sucking up. "Look, if I tell you why I was acting funny will you forgive me?" Chrystal said softly. Kelly glanced at her for a moment, considering her offer before crossing her arms and staring straight ahead. Chrystal shook her head and rolled her eyes. "Fine! I have a date!" Chrystal confessed, exasperated. Still nothing from Kelly. "Tonight..." Chrystal peeked a sideways glance at her friend. She was definitely listening. Kelly locked her eyes with her and quickly turned away. "He's called Ashton Irwin," Chrystal sighed, she hadn't wanted to tell her, but Kelly had her ways of making her spill even if she didn't want to. The mention of his name made Kelly suddenly jolt her attention onto Chrystal. "YOU HAVE A DATE WITH WHO!?" Kelly shouted, making Chrystal jump and the car swerved slightly. "Fuck Kelly," Chrystal growled, regaining control of the car, "Ashton Irwin?" Kelly stared at her with her mouth hanging open.
"Are we talking about the Ashton Irwin I think we're talking about," Kelly said, slowly and carefully. Chrystal just looked at her puzzled. Kelly grabbed her arm gently. "As in the Ashton Irwin, the drummer from 5 Seconds of Summer?" Suddenly it clicked, she had totally forgotten what he'd told her on their first encounter. Chrystal groaned. "Yes, the very one," She said sighing. Kelly screamed and danced in her seat. "Nooooo wayyyy! THIS IS AMAZING!" Kelly screamed wildly, Chrystal cringed away from her, suddenly remembering the screaming girls that had chased Ashton on his jog. "Tell me EVERYTHING!" Kelly said enthusiastically, "and leave nothing out!!" Unwillingly she began to tell Kelly everything.
By the time they reached Kelly's apartment she shared with her fiance Michael, she had finished her story.
"Chrystal, I can't believe you weren't going to tell me!" Kelly said, slapping her friend's arm playfully. Chrystal shrugged and smiled at her shyly. "I just can't believe this," Kelly murmured to herself, with her hands pressed against against her face. "I CANT BELIEVE THIS!" She squealed, bouncing in her seat. Chrystal hushed her impatiently. "Please will you calm down, and you can't tell anyone!"
"This is a HUGE deal Christie! Like massive, huge deal," She said staring at her as if she'd lost her mind.
"Okay, okay I get it. But I've honestly never heard of 5 sauce," She said, drawing the name out. It felt weird to say it aloud. Kelly shot her another crazed look before bursting into song, "You're like perfection, some kinda holiday. You got me thinking that we could runaway!"Chrystal stared at her waiting for some sort of explanation. "Nothing!?" Kelly asked shocked. Chrystal shook her head. Kelly groaned loudly. God, she was being weird.
It took a good twenty minutes to calm her erratic friend down before she no longer was acting like she'd just found out that Santa was secretly real. Kelly wished her good luck and finally left Chrystal alone in her car. It was now half four, which only left her two and a half hours to get home and get ready. She felt considerably more at ease telling someone about Ashton but Kelly's reaction made her a thousand times more nervous. He was obviously a bigger deal than she had previously thought. That didn't matter, she told herself sternly. He's just a boy. You can do this. Taking a few deep breaths, she pulled away from Kelly's apartment and sped off to her apartment. She couldn't help but feel like tonight was going to be a very, very big night.
