The Apprenticeship

Vienna Barnes is given the opportunity of a lifetime when she is offered an apprenticeship to work for her favourite football club, Sunderland AFC.

Sunderland AFC are one of the biggest clubs in the North East. After pulling off the greatest escape in Barclays Premier League history, the Black Cats are back in action, and sitting nervously towards the bottom of the table.

Just as Vienna arrives at the club, a bombshell is dropped, and owner Ellis Short sells the club to a mystery new owner. This new owner is determined to keep themselves a secret from the footballing world, and the media are therefore forced to keep possibly the biggest secret and scandal in footballing history.

Soon, all begins to fall apart at the club, and the new owners drive Sunderland into the ground. Thinking on her feet, Vienna steps in to offer her help in any shape or form.

With problem after problem unveiling, will Sunderland AFC still remain intact by the end of the season?

28. Heaven on Earth

My hands gently caress my boyfriend's arm that's draped over my waist and smile subconsciously. Henry's snoring lightly into my ear, his hot breath making the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I know my Mum will be blowing up my phone wondering where I am, but this feels to perfect for me to ever move. I wriggle slightly under Henry's arm, drawing my body further and further into his chest.

"You comfy there babe?" He mumbles, nestling his head into the back of my neck, "Cause I am."

I shift around to face him, and a sudden pain hits me, causing me to yell out in distress. I cover my face with my hands and bring my knees up to my chest. Fuck, I knew that last night would be painful, but I didn't think it would be this bad.

"Vienna what's wrong?" He whispers, planting a gentle kiss on the top of my head, "Where does it hurt?"

"Take a guess." I groan, "I didn't think it would still hurt by this morning."

"Shit, I'm so sorry." He apologises, wrapping an arm around my curled up body.

We lie in this bundled ball together, until the pain begins to slightly subside. Once it does I make the brave and courageous decision to remove myself from the bed and attempt to put on some decent clothing. Moving doesn't help with the pain one single bit, but if I don't move now, I never will.

"What time is it?" I ask, frantically searching for my phone.

After a deep search in and around my crimson leather bag, I find my phone, right at the bottom of what could be classed as Mary Poppins bag. There's stuff in here that I never even knew I owned. My phone is flashing like mad, and as expected, I have about ten missed calls from Mum, and fifty billion text messaged.

"Christ it's half ten!" I practically scream, causing Henry to jump up out of bed and to my side, "Mum's gonna be pissed as fuck."

"Why doesn't she just knock the door?"

"She's in her pyjamas babe..." I sigh, swinging my bag over my shoulder, "You know what she's like."

"Alright, I'll see you out." He chuckles, leading me down the stairs and towards his front door.

As Henry and I reach the door, I take a moment to glance out of the nearby window, and as expected my awkward Mother is sat in the car frantically fiddling about with her phone and dressed in her grey and white polka dot dressing gown.

"I enjoyed last night." Henry blurts out, "I mean...I know you sort of didn't, but I think it's something we can work on."

Yeah we can work on it being less fucking painful. Jesus.

"Babe, I didn't say I didn't enjoy it. I loved it. Just didn't love all the pain." I laugh, "But apart from that, yeah, I guess we could possibly try it again sometime."

I can't help but smirk as he shoots me a horrified look.

My hand covers my mouth and I burst out laughing. Henry soon picks up that I'm only joking and playfully whacks me on the arm, before wrapping his arms around my waist. Our embrace is cut short as Mum notices our presences at the door and begins frantically texting me again, causing numerous vibrations to erupt in my trouser pocket.

"Fuck sake she's getting annoyed now. I've gotta go. Text me later?"

"Will do." He replies, kissing my cheek gently.

As I leave Henry's lavish home, I notice Mum shooting me a deathly glare through the car window, to which I try my best to hide an ever-growing smirk. My heart is pulsing with happiness and joy, even though I know Mum's going to give me a hard time for keeping her waiting, nothing can ruin this day for me.

Apart from the overwhelming pain in my...female region...

"Half an hour...half an hour." Mum repeats, "What were you two doing up there?!"

My eyes glance out of the car window, and I try not to make eye contact with my Mum as we start the journey home. The tension builds gradually with each repetition of the same question, and I feel a mixture of humour and embarrassment.

"Vienna don't laugh at me!" She shrieks, repeating her question once again.

I manage to steal a quick glance at Mum and give her a forceful smile to which she lets out a deep sigh. Thank fuck. She's finally got it.

"Well it's your choice, he is legal now."

"Yes I know it's my choice so why are you banging on about it?"

Mum refuses to answer my question, pretty ironic really, seeing as what's just happened. The rest of the car journey is spent in silence, with a slight background of the radio music. I have to keep changing positions to get rid of the now fading ache, but as the car pulls up I jump out at the nearest chance. With my overnight bag swung over my shoulder I stroll into the house. The sudden realisation that I still have unfinished business with Vince hits me, and I know now that I can't avoid it.

"Where is he?" I ask Dad, who's entered the kitchen with an empty mug in his hand.

"In his room. He's desperate to talk to you, just give him a minute yeah?"

I thank my Dad and make a quick dash for the staircase. After I drop my bag off by my bedroom door, I make the slow walk up the next flight of stairs to Vince's room. To be honest I'm not nervous one bit. I need to stand my ground because I'm not having that skank anywhere near my house.

"I was wondering where you had gone!" Vince half smiles, "How was Henry?"

"Good! He was...good yeah."

"Look about Lilly...I didn't know she was Madison's sister. Truth be told I still don't really know what to do, because I really like Lill. Obviously I don't really want to know her sister after what you've told me, but at least give Lilly a chance. She's a lot nicer than Madison."

"Ugh I've got nothing against your girlfriend Vince, I've told you this. I just want Madison no where near this house else I swear to God I will punch her." I admit, not holding back on my violent threat.

"I would too if she wasn't a girl." Vince laughs.

"Well as long as we're back on the same page, see you later." I smile, heading back downstairs.

I feel at peace now that everything in my life is on track. Being so far away from home I was terrified that something was going to happen with Henry, but coming back and spending time with him last night, it just proves that absence makes the heart grow fonder. To be honest I'm still a little pissed off with the whole Madison and Lilly situation, but now that everything is sorted with Vince, I know that the skank will be no where near this house.
