I was in the locker room preparing for scrimmage. All the girls were putting black lines under our eyes to help with the sun and getting pumped up for the game. I didn't look at my phone at all today so I didn't know if Harry was going to be here or not. However I probably should've checked since not knowing probably made me about 30 times more nervous.
“Hey there sweetie.” I turned and saw my dad standing there.
“Good luck out there today. I'll be rooting for you.”
“Thanks daddy; I love you.”
“Love you too sweetheart.” He left the locker room to probably find a place in the bleachers.
“Hey, don't look so goddamn nervous. You are going to kill it today!” Roxie said, coming up next to me.
“I sure as hell hope so.”
“We got this shit, girl.” Roxie said. I smiled and she patted my back. I had never been so nervous for a game, especially a scrimmage since it really didn't count for much, but today, for some reason, I felt like the rest of my life was beginning today.
After the announcer announced our team, I kept my eyes on the ground, head focused on the game, trying not to puke. I was warming up with Roxie, focused on breathing.
“You have your own cheering section, girl.” Roxie said, pointing. I couldn't help but look and when I did, I couldn't stop smiling. My whole family, Darren, Harry, Louis, Zayn, Liam, Niall, and Missy were all sitting together with posters with my name and number on them, waving wildly at me. I laughed and waved back. Suddenly I didn't feel so nervous and let out a sigh of relief.
“Are you alright now?” Megan asked, walking up to us.
“I feel better than ever.”
“Good, because warm ups are over and were about to kill this bitch.” I started laughing and ran over to the sidelines with the rest of the team.
Once the game started, I had never felt more focused. Weaving in and out of people, keeping the ball far as hell away from Megan seemed easy. Not even two minutes in, Roxie kicked me the ball and I nailed it straight into the goal. All the girls started screaming and running at me, screaming too and piling on me.
The game continued and the same thing happened, yet again. And once more after, giving me a hat trick. This caused an insane amount of screams and cheering from both my team and the stands. This gave me the confidence I needed to make it through the rest of the game without getting nervous about exactly who was in the stands.
Watching the game made me realize how good at soccer Bethany actually was. I always noticed she was good from the practice our football team joined into, but I never expected her to literally be insane at it. As we all screamed for her, the game continued. Her and Roxie not allowing the soccer ball to go even near Megan.
At the end of the game, we won 4-1. The girls were going insane, piling on Bethany. Everyone was cheering and screaming even though it was just a scrimmage. They all shook hands and then headed back to the locker room.
When they all came out, bags in hand, Bethany went screaming and running for the girl with her family. If I remember correctly, her name was Missy.
“GIRL YOURE HERE!”
“FUCK YEAH BITCH!” The two laughed and hugged each other for what felt like days.
“Congratulations kid!” Her brother, Chris said after her and Missy let each other go.
“Thank you.” She smiled proudly as all the other girls ran up to Bethany.
“There's gonna be a party tonight to celebrate our win; are you in?” Bethany hesitated for a second and looked back at her parents. They seemed nervous to hear her answer.
“Yeah, I'll be there. I'll be the designated walker.” Everyone started laughing since it was kind of true- no one had cars on campus, so we all walked around, and her last name was actually Walker.
“Do you need a sober buddy?” Darren offered.
“That'd be fantastic!” Bethany said. They side hugged as we all started walking towards the parking lot where my family was parked.
“Are you guys staying or going right back home?” Bethany asked.
“We're heading back home but Missy wanted to come see your game.” Her mom said.
“Well I'm happy she did.”
“I am too. I got to meet the boyfriend.” Missy said, winking at Harry.
“I tried explaining, but she wouldn't listen.” I said, making us laugh.
“Well you tried; that's all that counts. Missy doesn't really listen to anyone to begin with. She gets a thought and it's always right, no matter what.”
“This bitch knows!” Missy yelled, raising Bethany's hand as we all laughed again. We all said goodbye to Bethany's family and Missy and the rest of us headed back to campus, towards the dorms. The rest of her soccer team had already disappeared so it was me, my friends, Darren, and Bethany's dad headed back for the locker room.
“You did good, Beth.” Liam said.
“Well thank you.” She smiled and I put my arm around her.
“She is pretty amazing. My girl got a hat trick in her first game.”
“My goal is to get a hat trick every game.” She said slowly.
“I think you can do it.” Darren said.
“Well thank you, love!” She said happily.
“So are you actually going to be the designated ‘walker’ tonight?” Darren asked her.
“I don't wanna be to be honest but I don't wanna go overboard either.”
“Darren and I will keep an eye on you; sound good?” Darren's eyes got wide and then nodded.
“I'm okay with it.” Darren said.
“Than it’s a deal. Don't let me go too hard tonight. I might try to since I'm really pumped right now.” She said as she laughed. We all laughed as we reached the dorms.
“Alright, I'll see you all later tonight.” Darren said. Bethany waved goodbye also, and we all started to go our own ways.
