Chapter 9 - I Want To Be A Tree
I woke up and I already had butterflies in my stomach.
Last night was amazing. At the time I could of killed Kayla & Luke but after they'd quoted 'White Chicks' a couple of times and ran out the room and me and Skip were alone. It had been a bit awkward at first but then he was like "I think we've been set up" that had been the ice breaker and we had talked non-stop fuelling my liking for him. We'd swapped numbers and he'd kissed my cheek which was so cute!
My alarm sounded but I was already wide awake. I could hear Kayla singing in the shower, she was actually a pretty decent singer! I was so glad she was here to stay. We'd had a laugh on twitter and when she told me about her plans for coming to Australia I'd begged my parents for her to stay. She was like the big sister I never had! We'd got along so well but I really hoped she'd sort this Brooks twin thing out, I could see it was constantly playing on her mind and I hated that I couldn't help her.
I noticed I had a text and opened it
Good morning :-) see you in school x
Today was going to be a good day!
I jumped out of bed when I hear the water stop and go to Kayla's room,
"Please can I borrow a dress and wedges? I'll love you forever!" I plead.
"Of course you can and you already do!" she sticks her tongue out at me.
We get ready, grab some breakfast and drive to school.
As we approach the school gates I can see Skip, James, Jai and Luke. Those damn butterflies are back. Kayla gives me a quick hug and walks past them without even looking at Luke. How strange they were getting on so well last night, I must remember to ask what happened last night after they left. I'd been too wrapped up in what had happened with Skip to even bother.
"Morning beautiful" Skip says giving me a kiss on the cheek. I blush "Morning" I smile.
"What's up with Kayla?" James asks.
"I'm not sure, Luke what happened last night after you went all white chicks on us?" I laugh.
"Nothing" Luke says without making eye contact with anyone.
"Weird boy" Jai smirks "if I was left alone with her, oh the things I would do!"
Nobody sees it coming when Luke punches Jai in the jaw, so Jai gets his arm then twists it up.
"STOP" I shout. As I go to move between them, Skip grabs my hand and pulls me towards him.
Out the corner of my eye I see Kayla running over "Luke stop it!" she shouts. "Jai, stop!" As soon as they see her they both let go of each other.
"What's going on?" she shouts. "What are you arguing about?!"
"Oh." She says as she realises. I've never seen her so mad and upset since I've known her. "If you two are going to carry on like this, I don't want to be friends with either of you. I am not going the reason that two brothers fall out. I'm not gonna be that girl. Either you both make up and don't fight again or I swear I will never speak to either of you again, but either way get your bags now and go to your classrooms and DO NOT speak to me for the rest of the day"
I see the tiniest tear trickle down the cheek and she bites her lip, turns on her heel and walks towards the door.
I want to do nothing more than hug the life out of her, but we both got warned about no favouritism or anything because she was living with me. I hated that rule at this moment in time.
The bell rings signalling first period, I hug Skip and link through James' arm as we head towards drama class. What a coincidence.
We're doing a play of MacBeth so we were auditioning for the parts today, I really wanted the part of Lady MacBeth and I was getting really nervous.
"Georgia, don't be nervous, you'll be great! I'm going for the part of the tree!"
I laugh loudly.
"I'm not joking" he says with a straight face.
"Anywayyyy, you and Skiplet?" he pulls a face.
I punch him gently on the arm, "yes so what?"
"Good on you! About time!" he cheers. "You've only fancied him in like ...... FOREVER"
I blush "I know, it's all thanks to Kayla and Luke" I frown "Luke and Jai won't really fall out will they?"
"I doubt it, I think Jai just feels a bit put out because he's always got the girls and Luke's never been bothered with it all but now this beautiful English girl shows up and everyone's life is rocked upside down!" James shrugs.
"She's a good person you know" I defend "She didn't ask for any of this, she's just confused! Luke and Jai don't realise that this is the only thing going round in her mind constantly and they aren't making it easy on her."
"I know that, you can tell that as well! We all love Kayla! Georgia don't fret! You're still coming out with us to film tomorrow aren't you ... Well if twinnies have made up!"
"Yeah course! I can't wait!" I reply just as Miss. Tatum our drama teacher shouts me to audition.
"Break a leg" James smiles.
I'm so nervous but I've been through my lines a million times, our plays were alternate. So if in one play you had a major role then in the next one you'd have a small role just so it was fair between us all. I headed up to the stage, I could do this! I'd prepared the reading of the letter from Act 1 Scene 5.
I took my position and a deep breath
"'They met me in the day of success: and I have
learned by the perfectest report, they have more in
them than mortal knowledge. When I burned in desire
to question them further, they made themselves air,
into which they vanished. Whiles I stood rapt in
the wonder of it, came missives from the king, who
all-hailed me 'Thane of Cawdor;' by which title,
before, these weird sisters saluted me, and referred
me to the coming on of time, with 'Hail, king that
shalt be!' This have I thought good to deliver
thee, my dearest partner of greatness, that thou
mightst not lose the dues of rejoicing, by being
ignorant of what greatness is promised thee. Lay it
to thy heart, and farewell.'
I catch sight of James dressed in brown trousers and a brown t-shirt with a green reef round his head, getting leaves attached to his arms and burst out laughing.
He looks over and grins.
"Well done Miss Hewitt but next time leave the laughter out at the end. MacBeth is not a laughing matter" smiles Miss Tatum.
Tomorrow was going to be hilarious.
