Living by his rules

Living by his rules. It is his house, it was so nice of Liz to let me stay here. But I feel trapped. I feel like I have to do as Luke asks or he'll tell his mum everything and my dad will lose his job! Why does he have to be so damn manipulative! he's so hot but so mean, and I think I'm starting to like his friend...

44. The Hidden Truth

It seems I had finally managed to get some sleep. I woke up with the sun gleaming through the binds. Luke was still asleep with his arms around me. I carefully sneaked out of his embrace and began getting dressed. Jeans and a plain grey T-shirt, I was in no mood to impress.

I made my way out of the suit and down the hall towards the elevator. As I pressed the button and waited, when the doors opened I stepped in and turned around to see Ashton approaching. I quickly jabbed the close button and sent the lift down to the lobby. I noticed a large man was also there, eyeing me suspiciously. He must have thought I was being rude. I smiled and said "trying to avoid him." He shrugged, "hey, it's your business."

We reached the lobby ad the man stepped back and signalled me to go first, I thanked him and walked out towards the reception. I was about to head out the main doors when I noticed Cai sitting in the lounge. She had her head down, staring at the floor like she was in deep thought. I walked over to her.

"Hey," I said. She looked up to me. There was sadness in her eyes, but no tears."You okay?"

She bit her lip and looked back down at the floor. I could tell she was unsure if she should tell me, which only made me need to hear what was bothering her, but part of me panicked. What if she knew? I wouldn't even know what to say to her.

I sat down next to her and she turned towards me, still looking down. "Ash...Ashton and I broke up." Her face was growing weak, she was on the bridge of breaking.

"What happened?" I asked daringly.

She looked at me, the tears were welling in her eyes. She took a shaky breath, "he cheated on me." she spoke in a half whisper and a small salty drop ran down her cheek. I'd never seen her cry before, she was always so strong. I pulled her in to me and she wrapped her arms around me and sniffled into my shoulder. I rubbed her back to comfort her more. Meanwhile a pain was stabbing in my chest. I caused this. I caused my best friend to cry. I figured sine she hugged me, she didn't know it was me. But I still pressed on, just to be sure.

"Who was it?" I asked.

She pulled away and wiped her eyes. "Some girl he use to have a thing with, he said he still has feelings for her." Once again she looked down and more tears fell out. "I thought he had feelings for me," she whimpered.

It hurt so much to see her like this. As much as I hated Ashton, I hated myself even more. "Cai, you know better than to cry over a boy," I told her. "Ashton isn't worth shit compared to you, you can walk outside and get any guy right now. You can snap your fingers and have everyone begging at your knees. Because your'e an amazing woman, they all want you. You don't need Ashton, you can have anyone you want."

She sniffled. "That's true" she laughed. Then she shook her head slightly. "But it's Ashton that I want. And he doesn't want me."

"He's crazy. Don't let that idiot hurt you. You're stronger than this." I must have finally found the right words. The sudden realisation of how weak she was being hit her and she instantly snapped out of her misery.

"yeah...I am." she spoke with determination. "I'm gonna get laid!"

"yeah!...wait, now?"

"Yep" she smirked. "By Calum!"

"Woah! Slow down, why Calum may I ask?"

"Who better than one of his best friends to get back at him? It'll make him feel like total shit. Besides Luke and Michael are kinda taken."

"Michael's not taken, not that I'm sying this is okay though."

"Oh isn't he? Then how come I saw him and Alex getting awfully close last night." she winked.

"No way!" my jaw literally hit the ground. Cai sat there nodding with the most devilish grin in her face. "How close?"

"Let's just say they couldn't take their hands off of each other."

I placed my hands on each side of my face. "Holy shit!" I accidentally said too loud, so heads had turned in our direction.

"I know it's mad!" She was going to gossip more but she paused when something behind me caught her eye. I turned around to see Ashton entering the lounge. He was looking directly at us, I wasn't sure if it was her or me. He waved a hand as he walked off to the side towards the bar, not breaking eye contact.

I turned back towards Cai. "Don't pay attention to him." I said harshly.

"I don't think he was waving at me, you two are still friends as far as he knows." she sighed.

"Not for long." I snapped.

"Actually Anna...I want you to keep his trust, I need you to find out who this girl is. Find out how he knows her, how pretty she is, what she does, you know?"

"I need to know why he chose her over me, what makes her better than me. Please." she begged.

I guessed staying friendly with Ashton would prevent him from leaking the truth. "Fine." I groaned.

"And make sure the rest of the group don't find out, let them think it was a mutual break up."

I was going to protest but then figure that was probably the best thing to do, in my case. "Right fine."

"Thank you." she smiled. "Right I'm gonna go find Calum," she winked and jumped up.

I stood up and walked towards the bar where Ash was, this was my moment to speak to him privately. He was leaning against the counter watching the flat screen, as soon as I entered he stood up straight, flashing a cheeky smile as he scanned me.

"Stop that!" I snapped as I approached him.

"Stop what?"

"Stop looking at me like that." I wasn't going to let him play with me.

"Couldn't never resist to stop and admire beauty when I see it." He tried to be smooth but I ignored his remark.

"I can't believe you broke up with Cai."

"Actually I think you'll find she broke up with me." he said then took a long sip of his beer.

"Well, you told her!"

He sighed as he finished is sip, then placed his class back down. "Of course I did, isn't that what you do in a relationship?" he paused a shot a shocked expression at me. "Ohhh you haven't told Luke, have you?"

"No, I haven't." I said hesitantly. "And I'm not going to."

"Well it's nice to see you have trust and honesty in your relationship, not like it wasn't like that from the start." His sarcasm only made me angrier.

"Please stop, I love Luke and you were wrong about him, he does love me."

"If you loved him so much then why did you cheat on him? With his best friend as well."

"That will never happen again and fro now on I want you to stay away from me."

"Funny...I don't recall you being like that last night," he leaned in close. "When you begged me to fuck you harder." I held back the urge to slap him. "When you screamed 'yes' as I gave you every inch that you deserved." He reached for my hand but I snapped it back.

"Enough! It was a mistake. An Luke can't know and Cai can't know it was me."

He took another sip. "So your'e not gonna tell him, your'e not gonna tell my best friend that you cheated on him."

"He'll fall out with you if I tell him."

"You don't have to mention me, I never mentioned you."

I knew exactly what he was playing at. He wanted Luke and I to break up. "I won't do it!" I spat. How dare he try to meddle with our relationship.

"If you don't do it then I will."

"Ashton please!" I begged.

"And it will be a whole lot worse when I tell him."

"Okay, what do I have to do so you won't tell him." I asked. Ashton just sighed like I was being stupid. I was, I was being very stupid. I gripped onto his arm. "I'll do anything!"

He brushed me off. "Please Anna, I know what your'e getting at. I could never betray my friend like that." His smirked and took another sip. I felt my heart racing in my chest as my blood began to boil.

"I hate you." I exclaimed.

"Don't be so harsh," he said as he signalled the bartender for another pint. "I'll make you a deal. You get Cai to go back out with me and I wont tell Luke."

I took a step back. "What he hell? No! You don't have feelings for her. Forget it, she's way more important to me."

"I do have feelings for her," he looked down. "I love her."

"You love her? And what about me, you said you were only dating her because she's the closest thing to me!"

"I know, and I'll never have you. Not the way Luke does."

A part of me broke inside. "Then you don't love Cai."

"Not as much as you no, but I still love her." He said.

I didn't know what to do. So many emotions were running through my head.

"If I do this, then what happened between us never happened?"

"Oh it happened, and I'll never forget it. But nobody will hear about it...and I wont bring it up to you."

I thought for a few seconds. This could solve everything and make it go back to the way things were.

"Okay, Deal"
