We were nearly ready to go. I was wearing blue jeans, a red long sleeve top and a thin scarf. I put on some brown boots and my winter coat. My hair was loosely curled and hung over my chest.
Cai was texting on her phone. "Hmm..." She hummed which seemed slightly worrying.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"Well Ashton's friend doesn't want to come."
"Oh, why not?"
"Something about him being heartbroken and he's not ready to move on." She rolled her eyes. "We can't have you go out with some broken lad."
My heart swelled at the thought. I nearly started to tear up, but I held myself together. "Let's just go for it, I don't wanna just sit in the house anyway." I told her.
"Okay I'll tell him to just man up and move on."
We ordered a taxi to the bowling alley where we were meeting Ashton and Luke. I was so nervous to see him again and Cai could tell something was up.
"You okay?" She asked looking over from the other seat in the car.
"Yeah, yeah I'm just still a bit shocked from earlier." It wasn't exactly a lie.
"Don't worry, I'll make sure nobody spikes your drink tonight." She smiled, her smile always made me feel more at ease.
When we got there we paid the taxi driver, I also gave him an envelope that contained letter that I had written earlier. "Can you give this to you're boss please." The driver took it and placed it in the glove compartment. It was a thank you note for the driver that helped me. I included a heavy tip for him inside.
We got out the taxi and started heading to the reception. There he was. Ashton Irwin. I was right, how could I have been wrong. It was him. But the boy standing next to Ash, I didn't expect to see him. It wasn't Luke, it was Michael. I figured maybe the rest of the group was here as well.
Cai ran right up to Ashton as soon as they saw each other. He embraced her with open arms and squeezed her tight. I saw him fix his eyes on me. He smiled into her shoulder. I walked up to them. Cai separated herself from Ashton. "Babe, this is Anna." She said.
"Hi." He smiled wide.
"Hello." I replied. It got really awkward.
"Okay I'm just gonna go freshen up, Anna you coming." Cai asked.
"Oh, no I'll just wait here with these two." I told her. I needed to have them alone. Cai shrugged and went to the restrooms. I turned back to Ashton and Michael.
"I knew it was you, as soon as she said you're name was Anna and that you just got back from Australia." Ashton said with the biggest grin.
"Is Luke here?" I asked.
"No, he's at the hotel with Calum, he doesn't know about this date." I looked at him weirdly.
"Yeah I didn't know it was you that I was getting hooked up with." Michael laughed. "Glad I came though, it's nice to see a friendly face." He came up and hugged me, I returned the hug and then Ashton joined in as well. "We missed you Anna." I giggled and then retracted myself.
"So Michael, you're heartbroken I hear?" I liked the idea of Luke being heart broken about me, but I guess he wasn't.
"Oh god, I really don't wanna talk about it. Actually I've been thinking, I need to get a new girl, a better girl." He took a step closer to me raised his eyebrow. "Maybe you know someone?"
I laughed, "I'll keep an eye out for you." I actually already had an idea of someone, she was a good friend of mine that had a similar personality.
"Anyway, back to Luke," Ashton changed the subject. "Why'd you leave him?"
The memory brought the tears to my eyes, I looked away so Ash couldn't see, but I think he already did. "Luke just..." I sighed miserably. "You know what, I can't even remember the reason. It was something stupid. I was stupid."
"He still likes you, he thinks about you almost everyday." Ashton's expression turned blank. "When you left, Luke was in pieces. He smashed everything in his room when he found out you left. You were long gone. You wouldn't answer his calls or texts. I can't believe you did that to him Anna."
The tear that I was holding back fell out. I scrunched my face up and hid my face from them. "Luke has done horrible things to me too, don't make me out to be the bad guy." Ashton hugged me again but this time he held onto me. I sobbed into his shoulder. "I had to, I needed to get away from him." Ashton rubbed my back and rocked me. I suddenly realised what I was doing. I stepped back and wiped my eyes.
Then Cai appeared. "Oh no, Anna. This ones mine." She joked and took a hold of Ashton's hand. He flashed her a fake smile. I laughed but I didn't look at her. "Come on, let's go bowl."
