I woke up with a really sore throat. I clasped my hand around my neck which had seemed to have swollen. It burned. I got out of bed and grabbed my phone. I turned on the torch then went to the mirror and shone the torch into my mouth as I observed my symptoms. The skin around my uvula was all red. It felt like little pins were sticking through it. I coughed a little but that just made the pain worse.
I put my hair up in a messy bun and applied some make up. I still had to be seen by Luke so I had to make some sort of effort. I tried to hide the bags under my eyes but the foundation I had wasn't very good for imperfections. I did what I needed to do as best I could. I felt really light headed so I slumped down the stairs with a strong grip on the banister.
As I reached the bottom step I felt a pressure build up in my nose. I felt the sneeze building up its power. I prepared myself, got ready to blow.
'Ugh I hate that.'
I dragged myself in to the kitchen. Luke was already up and eating cereal.
"Morning babe." He said with a mouthful of Cheerios. His first expression when he saw me was bright and cheery like his cereal, but then he slipped into a frown. "Hun, you don't look so good, you feeling okay?"
"Huh? Oh yeah, yeah I'm fine. Just...bed head...aahhhh ACHOOO!" There it was. Luke got up out of his seat and walked towards me as I recovered from blowing my brains out.
He placed the back of his hand on my forehead. "You're burning up." He hugged me tight and rubbed my back.
"Luke I'm fine." I lied, I felt horrible.
"Come on, get back to bed." He ordered. "Now!"
"For god sake I can look after myself, I don't need to stay in bed I can get up and do stuff I just need to take some hankies with me."
"But you'll get better faster if you stay in bed."
"I'll go to bed if you come with me." I winked. Luke giggled then grabbed my hands and dragged me up the stairs. He wrestled me into my bedroom and forced me into bed.
"Right I'll go get you some tea, breakfast, and some paracetamol." He said as he tucked me into the covers.
"Oooh I want bacon!" I chanted.
"Mmmmmmm-maybe..." he said as he left the room.
I waited patiently for Luke to come back with my breakfast. It would have been the first meal he made for me. I remembered the grilled sandwich he was suppose to make me. I really didn't want to think about that day so I brought out my laptop and scrolled though my movies.
'Okay lets see...Horror/Thriller...I'm in the mood for a zombie movie...okay; resident evil, 28 days later, ooh I am legend, yes!'
I selected the movie and got further under the covers. Around five minutes in, Luke came through the door with my breakfast. "Here it is." he said as he place the tray on my lap.
I observed my plate; bacon, sausage, scrambled egg and a potato scone. Also on the tray was a glass of orange juice, two paracetamol tablets and a flower that he stole from his mums garden.
"Awww Luke!" I smiled and picked up the small flower that was bursting with pink petals, I tried to sniff in its beautiful scent but my nose was blocked. "Thank you."
"Anything for my beautiful girl." he said and kissed me on the cheek which went red very quickly. "You're so cute when you blush!"
"Shut up and watch this movie with me" I giggled.
Luke cuddled up next to me in the bed as I took my tablets. "What we watching?" he asked.
"I am legend"
"YEEESSS! I love Will Smith!" he got really excited.
"Me too, he is the greatest actor ever! He always makes me cry."
"I'm not gonna lie, he makes me cry too."
"Aww baby..." I mocked him playfully.
We sat cuddled up watching Will Smith movies all day. After 'I am legend' we watched 'Seven Pounds' which was so sad I made a pool of tears on Luke's shirt. I could even hear him sniffling near the end. Him being a man, he didn't want to show any weakness in him. But I knew it was there. Then we watched 'Hancock', 'Shark Tale' and 'I, Robot'. We both ended up falling asleep at the end, with my head rested against Luke's chest and his arms wrapped around me. He made me feel safe.
While we were asleep Liz walked in the room. She saw Luke and I in our close encounter. Her and my dad had been busy on a project so they weren't home often, and seeing us cuddling made her slightly angry. She turned the laptop off and put it away. I could sense someone's presence at the time but I was too sleepy to care. She came back towards us and shook Luke to wake him up. He opened his eyes drowsily and suddenly realised his situation. He jumped in shock. Liz placed her finger over her lips, she didn't want to wake me. She then signalled Luke to follow her out the door. He carefully slipped out from under me and left.
I woke up in the early afternoon. My head felt so heavy. I couldn't breathe through my nose, it was all bunged up. I heard a knock at the door.
"Come in," I called out as loud as I could.
Luke walked in with a bowl. "Hey," he smiled nervously. "I got you some chicken soup."
"Thank you," I leaned in to kiss him but he moved away. I thought it was because I was ill and he didn't want to catch it. Then I thought maybe he didn't like the look of me at that moment of time, I did look a mess. Either way I felt slightly embarrassed.
"Sorry, I just...we need to talk." he sighed.
I panicked. What would we need to talk about? I thought everything was going fine. I gulped. "What is it?" I asked reluctantly.
"We cant see each other any more." That hit me harder than a tone of bricks.
"What are you talking about?" I laughed a little. "We've only been dating like two days...was it that bad?"
"No, no I loved every second of spending time with you."
"So why are you breaking up with me?" the tears started to form in my eyes. And in Luke's.
"My mum found out about us. She doesn't like it. Don't get me wrong, its not you, she really likes you, but she doesn't like you...with me."
"Oh." I didn't know how I could accept that.
"She says I've to stop fooling around with you or she'll have to send you back home, and I really don't want to see you go." This was it, Luke began to cry, he was actually expressing his emotions for me. But why did it have to be like that?
"But we aren't fooling around, we're serious aren't we? We just have to show her that..." Luke began shaking his head.
"No, lets face it Anna. The was nothing serious between us, at all." he blubbered.
"You don't mean that." I couldn't believe my ears. "Luke please don't do this to me."
"I'm sorry!" he stood up and started to leave.
"Luke!" I called out for him. "Luke please!"
He closed the door.
I no longer felt the pain in my throat.
It was in my heart.
