While we were away for two weeks, Hayden was able to find out the sex of her baby. She was almost thirty weeks pregnant but they were never able to see the baby parts that were needed to know the sex so she had to wait until the baby moved.
“I am happy to announce that me and Luke will be having a little girl.” I automatically stood up and shouted.
“Thank god!” I said hugging her. I don’t know how much longer I could last with so many boys. We had just gotten back and we were all exhausted but she said she needed to tell us right away and that she couldn’t wait until we woke up. “I’m going to bed now.” I said while pulling a very bored looking Daniel with me to my bedroom.
“Are you excited?” He asked me. I was more than thrilled to have a baby around here but Luke was moving out and I was not looking forward to that at all.
“About the baby yes, Luke leaving, no.” I was highly upset that he would be leaving and now that I brought it up the tears began to flow.
“Hey hey hey. No crying.” Daniel said. My sobs got louder and I heard my bedroom door flew open and hit the wall.
“What happened?” It was Jai. Most people were confused on how I could tell them apart. I grew up with them. I can tell them apart by their freckles and their voices. Their tattoos are also very different.
“I don’t want Luke to move out!” I sobbed. I always had three older brother’s looking out for me at all times and with one of them moving out and starting his own family I don’t think I could handle that.
“I guess no one told her.” Me and Daniel both spun around looking at Luke who came further into the room. “We aren’t moving out. We decided that you guys will have to put up with the cries. There was no way I was going to be leaving you. I’m just moving into the guest bedroom with Hayden and the baby.” Luke said. I wiped the stupid tears that were falling down my face. He laid down on the bed with me. I could feel the sleep taking over as I laid in his arms. I love how close I am to my brother’s. It comes in handy.
I watched from the sidelines as Violet sobbed over Luke leaving. She eventually fell asleep in his arms on her. I left them there and went to sit in the living room.
“Have you guys picked a name yet?” Beau asked me as I sat down.
“No. We haven’t talk about it and he’s asleep with Violet right now.” I answered as I pulled out my phone. I had a text from my mom asked if I wanted to go baby shopping. “I’m going to go shopping with my mom. Can you tell Luke when he wakes up?” I asked the boys. Each nodded their head before waving their hands. I picked up my bag and left. Although I have been away from Luke for a while, I was willing to give him time with Violet before she didn’t have him much longer.
I woke up to two different snores. One belonging to my brother and the other my boyfriend. I was wrapping in both of their arms. I rolled over and faced Daniel after his snores stopped. He was already looking at me.
“Hi.” He gave me soft smile that I returned. “You feeling okay?” He asked me and I nodded my head.
“I’m pretty hungry though.” I said. I felt Luke toss and turn beside us before he groaned and rolled over and off the bed. I laughed as I saw his head pop up and he groaned rubbing his head where it must have hit the floor. The house seemed quiet as we got up and walked into the living room.
“I’m starving.” Jai said as he woke up from the couch.
“Me too.” All of a sudden Luke’s phone began ringing. Whoever it was was shouting from the other end of the phone.
“I’ll be there as soon as possible!” He shouted while running around grabbing things and the baby bag. “Hayden went into labor!” He shouted and now all of us were going crazy. I thought the worst as she was too early to have the baby. We all got into a few cars and flew over to the hospital. When we got there Luke went to be with her while the rest of us stayed behind. I feared the worst. This was not happening now.
“Are you alright?” My mom asked as we were out shopping. I had been feeling pain in my belly all day now and it was the worst pain I have ever felt.
“My belly hurts.” I winced at the pain. I stood in front of her with my hands on her shoulders. “I think we should go to the hospital.” I said to her. I had texted Luke to tell him we were going but then I remembered he was asleep and he wouldn’t get it. I tried calling all of them but got nothing in return. Once we were at the hospital and into a room the pain got even worse. “Ugh! Where the hell is Luke!” I shouted. I know Violet needed him but I needed him a little more right now. I knew I was in labor as soon as I felt my water break. “My water just broke!” I shouted. My mother began rushing around looking for a doctor. My bed was now soaked and so was I.
“I’ll call Luke.” She said as nurses and the doctor came to check me and help me change and into a different bed. I could hear a word my mom was saying as a contraction hit. This wasn’t as bad as the stomach pains but I knew they were only going to get worse the farther along the labor went. “He will be here soon.” She said.
“She’s too early.” I cried out. I still had another ten weeks to go before my baby was suppose to be here and now she’s coming and I can’t stop it.
“The baby decides when they are ready.” My mom said. I finally calmed down when I heard Luke’s voice from down the hall.
“Are you okay?” Luke asked as he held my hand.
“It hurts.” I mumbled.
“I know.” He said. Another contraction hit and I gripped his hand and didn’t let go for a while.
“She’s too early.” I cried out to him. “She’s too early.” There was a possibility that my little girl wouldn’t survive and I really wish she would pull through. She was strong. I knew she was.
*TWO HOURS LATER*
The pain had only gotten worse and I felt the need to push. My doctor was there telling me that I could push. I felt the contraction hit and I began to push. I held onto Luke’s free hand as his other was holding my leg up. I wasn’t sure if my little girl was going to be alive after this. If she did survive, she was going to be very small.
“Jesus!” I shouted out. I took a little break before I began pushing again. I felt as if this baby should be here soon. Since she didn’t want to wait a few more weeks, she should just pop and of course, just as fast as she wanted to be here, she came out into the world at 2:26 pm on September fourteenth weighing 5.5 pounds and 3 ounces. Her cry wasn’t very loud but there was a cry.
“She’s alive.” Luke said to me. He had tears in his eyes that were spilling over in buckets. The took my baby away from me before I even got to see her. They stitched me up and it seemed as if they had me back into my room in no time. I was very tired but I knew there were some very impatient people waiting for me in the waiting room.
“How are you feeling?” Violet asked as she came into the room and sat on the chair next to my bed.
“I’m very sore.” I whispered. A nurse came into my room then.
“I just wanted to let you know that your little is fine. She is very small and her lungs aren’t developed so she is on breathing tubes and she is very small and needs to gain more weight but she will survive.” The nurse said smiling. “Once you are feeling better you all can go see her.” She said.
“This baby is coming into a great family.”
“She doesn’t even have a name yet.” I wanted to give her a boy name because my whole life everyone always said that they loved that I had a boy name.
“Well what were you thinking?” Beau asked me. Luke had to step out of the room for some Air.
“Ryan or Drew.” Violets eyes lite up.
“I love Ryan! I know it’s usually a boy name but it fits! I love it!” She said laughing.
“I know. I love it too.” I said laughing along with her. “I just need a middle name.” I said. Something that goes with Ryan and Brooks.
“How about Elizabeth?” Violet said.
“Ryan Elizabeth Brooks.” I said and it was like the name rolled off my tongue. Of course Luke came back into the room. “We chose a name.” I said to him.
“Without me?” He pouted.
“Yeah. How about Ryan Elizabeth?” I asked him.
“That’s beautiful.” He commented. I was praying to god that my baby was still alive and she is finally here with me where I can hold her in my arms.
We were stuck in that stupid hospital room forever. I was starving and I really needed a walk.
“Will you come with me to get food?” I asked Daniel who was nearly falling asleep. He nodded his head before we both got up and left the room. To say we got a little lost was an understatement but we did get to see the newborn babies. We stopped to look at them before we passed the NICU. “There’s our niece.” I said pointing to the little baby that was wrapped in a pink blanket and a little pink hat.
“She’s so small.” He whispered as if he would wake her up from through the glass. The rooms lights were dim so it was hard to see but you could see the blanket moving up and down from her breathing.
“Let’s go. We will be in trouble is they see us here.” I think Hayden would be mad that I saw her daughter before she did. “Should we ask someone where the cafe is?” I asked looking around at the vacant hall.
“No. It looks like we are on our own.” Daniel said as he grabbed my hand. We walked for what seemed like hours before we randomly stumbled upon the cafe.
“Thank God I’m starving.” I said as we walked around picking out what we wanted. A very tired looking Beau and Jai came into the cafe then.
“Where have you guys been?” Beau asked.
“We got lost.” I answered laughing.
“Why didn’t you just ask someone?” He asked as he picked something out and we all paid.
“Couldn’t find anything to ask.” I said as we all headed back up to her room. When we go there, there was a very small blanket placed in Luke’s arms. We all watched on from the other side of the room. He was whispering things to her and his smile grow on his face as he said more and more to her. Hayden was now sitting up in bed taking pictures of Luke and Ryan.
“Come sit.” She said to me patting the side of the bed. “Would you like to hold her?” She asked me. I nodded my head before washing my hands. As soon as I sat down she was placed in my arms. I was told to do skin to skin so she was laying on my chest. Daniel stood beside while looking at her and taking pictures of us.
“Hi baby Ryan. I’m your Auntie Violet.” I whispered to her. I could hear her faint breathing as I held her.
“She looks exactly like you guys.” Hayden said. She did look like me and my brother. She had the brown hair we all had and I’m sure she had the blue eyes that all babies are born with.
“She does.” I giggled. “Poor baby going to look just like Luke.” I laughed.
“I’m hoping she looks like you. Since you look like Luke our baby will look like you.” It would be awesome if my niece looked like me. People would probably assume she was mine and that would be weird if we were out together.
“I’ll take that as a compliment.” I smiled up at her. She laughed.
“It was suppose to be.” This was one of the greatest moments in my life. Everyday someone dies, but someone else is born. I couldn’t imagine a greater moment than this.
“I promise to give you that one day.” Daniel whispered in my ear. I was perfectly fine with this baby here for a while. I wasn’t rushing into anything. I was content with this.
