Bad Dreams

Jane needed to get away. From her parents. Her school. Even her hometown. She dyes her hair blonde and trades in her car for a ticket to Australia. She even changes her name. Anything to get away from what haunts her the most. Marcie is new in Australia. All the kids know that she moved here from England. They don't bother her and she doesn't bother them. Except one. Calum Hood is curious about this new girl. Something tells him that she needs help. But she doesn't know that he sees her. Yet. "You can't hide in the Library anymore" He says, standing right in front of me. Stopping me from escaping. He looks straight into my eyes. "It's too late. I've seen you

J A N E *Flashback* "Hello Jane, it's nice to see you again" I grin. "Thank you Dr Nicholas!" He was always my favourite doctor out off ALL the ones at the hospital. And there are MILLIONS of doctors here. Sometimes they give you sweeties. That's my favourite part. And drawing with crayons in the waiting room. "Well it looks like you had your birthday a couple of weeks ago. How old are you now? He asks. "I'm 7 years old now". I say proudly. "And what did you do for your birthday?" Oh. "I had a sleepover with my friend and we had birthday cake" I lied. In actual fact, I went to school, did the dishes and went to bed. Like a good girl. At least I thought I was good. "Lovely. So, tell me what's wrong?" "I fell down the stairs and cut my arm" I say, remembering what I was taught. I don't want to get mummy into trouble. He raises his eyebrows. "Again, did you hurt your leg on the stairs as well? I swallowed. "I fell out of a tree. "And the bruise on your face?" Uh oh. I was running out of excuses now. He can't know! I'll get into trouble! "I..i...umm" I stutter. Trying to think of an excuse. He leans forwards on his chair. "Jane, is everything all right at school? Or at home? I know you have just moved in with your mothers new boyfriend. Is he nice to you? Oh yes, he's nice alright. Sometimes I only get a kick in the belly. I plaster a smile on my face. "He's lovely, and there is nothing wrong. I'm just a bit clumsy, that's all." I say, fake laughing. "If you say so. I think you should let your mother know that I will be coming round next week to do a check up." He says, making a note. "O..okay" I stammer. I am in for it now. "Now let's get your arm stitched up eh?" •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• "He is WHAT?!" "Mummy, please don't be angry! I said everything you told me to!" I plead, desperately. "If they find out, Garry could be sent to Jail!" "But mummy, Uncle Garry hurts us. Wouldn't it be better if he was in Jail?" "How dare you! I love him and he loves me! Sometimes he gets a bit cross with me, but he doesn't mean it. And as for you, you bring it on yourself sometimes! She takes several deep breaths. "Jane Elizabeth Henley, I did not raise you to wish people to be in Jail, you ignorant girl!" A sharp pain blossoms across my cheek. I gasp. Mummy hit me. Mummy never hits me. She says I'm her precious little girl. "Darling I'm so sorry" she says, dropping to her knees and wrapping her arms around me. "I forgive you mummy" I say, whilst she cries into my shoulder. I don't like to make mummy cry. I don't like seeing her upset. It makes me scared. But she hugs me and says she loves me. We'll be alright.
