"Mum? Can I go over to Lacey's?" I called while walking down the stairs already texting Lacey my answer: Yes.
"No," I heard my mum call back.
"What?" I said genuinely surprised, she usually doesn't care what I do, "Why not?"
"Because last time you went out, I found you banging on the door drunk at 3 o'clock in the morning," She came out of the laundry room carrying a basket of freshly cleaned clothes. Her black hair was neatly tied up into a bun.
"That was one time. I wasn't planning on coming home drunk," My cheeks turned red at the memory of me screaming at the top of my lungs and pounding on the door because I couldn't figure out how to open it in my drunken state.
She passed me going up the stairs and into Hattie's room. I saw my little sister lying in her crib, sleeping. Her thumb was stuck into her mouth and she was snoring softly.
"Right, you were planning on staying at Chrissy's until your hangover wore off," she dropped her voice to a whisper.
"No," I defended myself, "I just, I'm not even going to Chrissy's. This is Lacey, you know her parents would kill her if she even thought of doing anything like that. I promise I won't come home drunk. Pleeeeeeease?" I begged.
She turned to look at me as she picked up another shirt to fold. She studied my face, looking for any sign of me lying.
She pointed a finger at me, "But if I find out you did anything other than go to Lacey's, you will be grounded. Forever. Got it?"
"Mhmm, okay, thanks, mom, I'll be home sometime in the next 48 hours!" I called, a little too loudly. Hattie stirred. We both froze, staring at her, hoping for her to remain sleeping. She rolled over so her face was towards the wall.
Just as I let out a breath of relief, the unmistakable scream came. The scream of a child being awaken from sleep.
"Just go," My mom sighed.
"Are you sure?" I asked loudly over the screaming, knowing Hattie was a pain to get back to sleep.
"Yes, I'll take care of her,"
"Sorry," I said ruefully before heading downstairs.
I texted Lacey, as I jumped in my car.
To Lacey: 'On my way!'
A minute later she texted me back.
From Lacey: 'Hurry up! We're gonna be late?'
To Lacey: 'Late for what?'
She didn't answer. Typical.
I pulled into the driveway and honked my horn when I saw that both of her parent's cars were gone.
I walked right in the house not bothering to knock.
"Lacey, I'm h-" I cut myself off.
Mr. Richards was peeking through the blinds on the window looking outside.
"Oh, hi, Jerry," I said when he looked at me.
"Do you know what all that ruckus was about out there?"
"Are you talking about the horn?"
"Yeah," He kept peering through the small slit in the blinds.
"Um, no, sorry," I lied.
"Lacey's upstairs," He continued and walked off down the hall.
"Thanks," I muttered. I shook my head, that man always made me feel unsettled. There always seemed to be something off about him.
I knocked on Lacey's bedroom door before pushing it open.
Her back was facing me but in the reflection on the mirror, I could see her face. Her eyes immediately flashed to me.
"It's about time! What took you so long? Anyways," She continued before I could answer her, "could you zip me up?"
She was fumbling with the zipper on the back of her shimmery dress.
"Why are you wearing that?" I eyed her warily closing the door.
"We're going to a party!" She announced.
"You know you're dad is home, right? And I can't go," I said falling back on her bed.
"Of course I know that. What do you mean you can't go? You are going!"
"If my mom finds out, she will kill me. Literally. You remember what happened last time?"
She just laughed at the memory, "But, seriously, you have to come. It'll be like the best party ever. You know Ben Selley, yeah, the hot Ben, well he's hosting it and oh my god it is going to be awesome!"
I sighed propping myself up on my elbows, "I don't know,"
"Oh, come on! It's either that or you can stay here and hang out with my dad," She smirked, knowing she had won.
"But I'm going to need to borrow some clothes,"
I ended picking out black leather high wasted shorts, a white crop top, and red heels, a few red bangles, and some red earrings. I curled my hair, kept my makeup minimal and I was ready. I wasn't really one to go all out when I went out.
"Dammit," Lacey said suddenly.
"What?" I turned around as I finished putting in my earrings.
"How do you take something so simple and make it so sexy? I'm jealous,"
"Me? Sexy? Look at you!" I exclaimed. She was wearing her short black shimmery dress, with gold everything else. Shoes, bracelets, earrings. And a dramatic golden smoky eye.
As she opened her mouth to answer, the ringing of the old grandfather clock echoed through the house signaling the new hour.
She squealed, "We're gonna be late!"
It was my turn to squeal as she grabbed my hand and yanked me out the door and down the stairs.
"Jesus, woman, slow down! I'm in heels. Why are you in such a rush?" I caught my breath as we settled in the car and it roared to life, me in the passenger seat.
"I met this dude last weekend, his name is Isaac, and I guess he's like best friends with Ben. That's why we are able to go to this party anyways. It's very exclusive. And Isaac's gonna be there," She said as she flew out of the driveway.
"By exclusive do you mean like every school in England?"
"Pretty much," she laughed and I laughed with her, "It's invitation only, but Ben being the nice lad that he is, invited a lot of people,"
"Ooh, goodie," I rolled my eyes.
"What, would you rather go to a party with like 5 people?"
"I'd rather just stay home and read,"
"You're kidding right?"
"Well, I just don't really like big crowds of people,"
"A party with five people and books. So, book club. You'd rather go to book club."
"Shut up," I laughed.
"What'd you expect when I said we were going Ben Selley's party?"
"A lot of people," She gave me the duh-I-told-you-so look, "But it just dawned on me how many people there are actually going to be,"
"I'm not letting you back out now," She said as we parked on the street, a few blocks away from the house.
"I know," I muttered, defeated.
I could tell which house it was because there was a hoard of people streaming in and out of the house, the pounding music following each person, I could hear it from here.
The house reeked of alcohol and sweat the second you reached the front doors.
"Good evening, ladies," the taller door greeter greeted us.
"Names please," said the shorter one with the clipboard.
"Um, Lacey Parker," Lacey looked at me and wiggled her eyebrows, making me laugh.
Lacey grabbed my hand and we pushed our way through the mass of sweaty bodies.
We each grabbed a cup and downed it within a matter of seconds.
I could feel the alcohol course through my veins and I immediately reached for another one.
"Now that's what I'm talking about," Lacey looked at me approvingly, "Let's go find ourselves some hotties,"
"What about Isaac," I asked grabbing my second drink, I was starting to feel a little tipsy already. My tolerance for alcohol is very low. I probably shouldn't be downing them like I am, whoops.
"Oh, he'll find me if he wants me!" She said sassily.
We made our way to the middle of the living room and danced with the crowd. And by danced, I mean we were pretty much grinding with everybody around us.
"Hey, sugar," Somebody said from behind me, grabbing my hips.
"Hey," I giggled, leaning into him. Yep, I was defiantly drunk.
I lost sight of Lacey about a half hour ago but I didn't really care, Isaac probably found her.
"Why don't we go find somewhere more private, yeah?" He asked after a good while of us grinding against each other.
I giggled and nodded my head.
He grabbed my hand and pulled me to the stairs.
He pushed open one of the doors and turned the light on. We were expecting to see an empty room, instead we were greeted by a squeal and two people rushing to cover themselves.
For some reason I found this hilarious and as soon as we left, closing the door behind us, I burst out laughing.
"What's so funny?" He asked me.
"Nothing," I chirped, trying to stifle my laughter.
After finding two more occupied rooms, he said, "screw it, let's just go to my room,"
"You're room? Wait, this is you're party? Ben?" I didn't laugh anymore. Never in a million years did I think I would be sneaking around with Ben Selley. I've never seen him myself but I've heard many things about him, mostly about his sexiness. They were right, he is pretty damn sexy. And he chose me. Out of the hundred girls here, he chose me.
My cheeks turned a bright crimson, thank god for the dim lighting.
"Did you think I was someone else?" he asked pushing open what I assumed to be his bedroom door.
"No, it's just, I've never seen you before and-"
His lips collided with mine, pushing me against the wall. I gasped with surprise and he took the opportunity to slip his tongue into my mouth. Our tongues danced, battling for dominance, he won.
He grabbed one of my legs and wrapped it around his waist. I quickly followed with the other one. My fingers tangled in his curly hair and he held me by my bum.
He gave it a light squeeze and I giggled against his lips. He carried me across the room and we fell onto the bed, our lips never separating.
We both kicked off our shoes. His jacket joined them on the floor. His hands felt my body hungrily, they made their way to the bottom of my shirt. He slipped his fingers under the hem and pulled it over my head.
I fumbled with the buttons on his shirt, laughing at my inability to unbutton it. I could feel his smile against my lips as he ripped it open, the buttons clattering on the wood floor.
We were both shirtless and breathing heavy when I realized what we were about to do.
I put my hands against his chest, about to push him off.
He kissed my neck causing me to groan with pleasure.
"Wait," I said finding my strength again.
He sucked at my sweet spot.
"Ben," I meant to say it as a warning, but it came out as a moan. This encouraged him.
His kisses were moving lower now. When he reached the top of my shorts, I gasped.
"Wait, Ben, I can't do this," I tried to pull away from him.
"But we've just started," He said and slipped his fingers under the hem of my shorts as he started tugging at them.
"No, stop it," I said, moving from his grasp
He looked up at me, his eyes were nearly black, filled with lust and power.
I gulped, I was suddenly scared.
I grabbed, my shirt and pulled it over my head has I bent for my shoes. I quickly scooped them up and darted for the door.
"You're gonna regret this, sugar," Ben threatened from the bed. I looked back at him once more before I slammed the door behind me and headed for the stairs.
I held onto the banister for dear life as I stumbled down the stairs. I cursed myself for having such a low tolerance for alcohol.
As I pushed my way through the crowded rooms, I spotted Lacey.
"Lacey!" I tried to call over the pounding music, "Lacey!"
The fair haired boy she was dancing with looked at me when I called out for her.
I watched him whisper something in her ear before my view was cut off. Somebody bumped into me spilling their drink all over the front of me.
I gasped, taking a few steps back.
"Shit, dude, I'm sorry. Lemme help you," he slurred, reaching for me.
"No, I'm fine, just- just don't touch me," I put my hands up in defense as I backed away, I shrieked as my back bumped into the front door. The kid with black hair, tanned skin, and now empty cup, gave me a funny look as he watched me fumble with the door, trying to open it.
I yanked it open, gasping as I sucked in the fresh air. I was on the verge of tears by the time I made it to the corner.
Then the sirens wailed in my ears.
"Oh no," I whispered, "Mum is gonna kill me,"
