When I Fell

Falling in love is tricky. There are so many movies and books that make it seem so easy and passionate and right but in the real word it's confusing and exciting and fun and frustrating and in the real world, things get in the way.

Chris' point of view

"Are you naked?" I whisper into the darkness as I get into Ruby's room at about two in the morning.

I hear her stifle a laugh. "No."

"Damn it." I joke as I lie down beside her. She immediately rolls over to face me and kisses my cheek.

"Missed you today." she says quietly, resting her head on my shoulder.

"I missed you too." I tell her. I really did. It was hard for her to be so close all the time without me being allowed to talk to her at all. It also wasn't fun to see her giggling away with Carrie about boys they found attractive.

"What are we doing tomorrow?" she asks.

"Jason said another beach day and then we're gonna go to one of the clubs tonight." I pause. "We don't have to though, we can make up an excuse."

"Like what?" she asks, laughing a little.

I nudge her. "Shut up."

"It sounds fun anyway." she says.

"You'd better not have too much fun." I grin. "I'm keeping an eye on you."

"Oh yeah, you've gotta keep me under control. I am so at one with man kind. I get all the boys." she jokes.

"Hey, that's not such a crazy idea you know." I nudge her. "From what I could see today at the beach, Jason seems a little fond of you."

She looks at me, her mouth quirking into a little smile. "Jealous, are we?"

"Not yet. Give it a minute."

She chuckles, shaking her head. "I have no interest in Jason whatsoever. I'm not a fan. No offence, I know he's your friend."

"Nah, it's cool." I tell her. "He can be my friend and we can keep you nicely out of his sight."

She smiles, looking at me for a moment and then shakes her head, putting it back down on my shoulder. I love when she does that.

"Night, Chris."

I kiss her forehead. This is another one of those moments where I so want to tell her I love her because I know I do but I don't want to tell her until I think she loves me as well. I'm almost sure she does. It just doesn't feel right to say it yet. That's okay though. I think we have forever to always tell each other we love each other. Right now, we're in this place where everything's new and special and this is only going to happen once and we're both enjoying that.

"Night, Ruby."
