When I Fell

Falling in love is tricky. There are so many movies and books that make it seem so easy and passionate and right but in the real word it's confusing and exciting and fun and frustrating and in the real world, things get in the way.

"How long until you come back?" I ask Ruby. It's midnight over here for me and only seven over there in England. Ruby's on the other end of the Skype call doing some sort of English thing while she talks to me.

"It's a few months left until I've finished my first full year over here." she grins. "I'm so excited."

"I am too." I grin back. "But I'm confused. I thought you loved it so much over in England, I wouldn't think that missing us would be enough to take you away."

"I love England." she nods, scribbling on her page and not looking at me. "I really do. But I love you a little bit more."

My stomach clenches in the best way. "I love you as well. But is it worth it for you to come back here? I know how much you love it there."

She smiles a little, glancing up from her page. "Do you not want me to come?"

"No, no, I really want you to come! I just wish you didn't have to leave England."

She shrugs, looking back at her page. "It's just a year off. I've been in England for nearly a year now, I think it's good for me to go back to Florida and be around you all before I start the next two years over here."

I nod. "I guess you know best."

"You know it."

I laugh. "It's late Rubes, I've got class in the morning. I'll speak to you tomorrow?"

She nods. "Speak tomorrow. Love you."

"Love you."

She smiles and I shut my laptop, lying on my back. I can't believe she's going to be here again. I just wish we didn't have to hide it.
