Ruby's point of view
When I wake up, I quickly sort my hair out and put a little bit of makeup on, staying in my pyjamas to make it look like I just wake up that way, hoping to see Chris. He's already gone home and I manage to act like I'm not disappointed.
I get a Facebook message from that girl Carrie I met on the beach the other day.
Wanna go look around today? :D
Yeah, I'll meet you near the beach :)
We spend the entire day shopping and eating and buying cool milkshakes. It's so nice to have a friend that's a girl to do fun things like that with. This is only the second time we've met but we're acting like best friends. She's telling me all of the gossip from her college (she's in Jonas' year at college) and I tell her all the gossip from my high school and we both bitch about people.
"You go to the local college right?" I ask as we sit down in a café to eat some cookies we saw in the window.
"Yup." she says.
"My brother Jonas goes there."
She raises her eyebrows. "Jonas Makep?"
"Yeah." I say, smiling a little curiously.
She laughs out loud. "You're kidding me. He's your brother?"
"Yeah." I say, laughing too. "You know him?"
"No." she shakes her head. "I know of him though. He's the most popular guy in the year, and he's so not like you. I actually had a bit of a crush on him in freshman year."
"Ewwww." I groan, putting my head in my hands. "No, that's disgusting."
"Oh calm down, it's passed." she grins. "His friends are all attractive though, you're so lucky, I bet they come round all the time."
"Oh they do." I tell her. "You know Chris?"
Her eyes light up as she nods. "I know Chris. Not personally but everybody knows him. He's gorgeous."
"Isn't he just?" I exclaim, excited to finally be able to express myself about this. What did I ever do with out a girl friend? "Him and I have been hanging out by ourselves a little bit recently."
She gasps. "Shut up! Do you like him? Like like him like him?"
I shrug. "I guess so. He'll never like me back though."
"I beg to differ." she says, biting her cookie. "He never hangs out with anybody outside of his little circle of friends."
"I am Jonas' little sister though." I point out.
"That's even better." she insists. "He's notorious for not even noticing anybody younger than him."
I raise an eyebrow. "Really?"
She nods, her eyes still wide. "You know they're all going to some club tonight, right? We have to go."
I shrug. "I don't know."
"No, seriously, we have to." she looks at me and I can see a million and one ideas running through her mind. "I've seen what you wear to parties and you look pretty but you need to look more than pretty tonight, you need to look hot."
I laugh, nervously. "Why?"
"Because Chris already knows the main side of you. Now show him a different side. We're going to get new clothes in a minute." she says, quickly.
"And we need to play mind games."
I groan. "No, I really don't want to do that."
"Not big mind games." she assures me. "Just maybe get a little bit close to a couple of guys at the beginning of the night, make him a tiny bit jealous, you know?"
I raise an eyebrow. "I'm still not sure."
"Well it's happening." she grins. "Or I swear to god, I'll have sex with your brother."
"Okay, I'll do it." I say quickly, but I'm dying inside. This isn't going to work. I'm just too awkward looking for this.
We go back to the mall and she buys herself a very tight, black dress and some very tall, silver shoes. She then proceeds to buy me some shorts which are quite short and very tight, but it could have been a lot worse, and a shirt. The shirt's red and it's pretty normal apart from the fact that it has a very low v-neck and wherever skin would be showing, there's skin tight lace. I object to it over and over but she insists.
I'm getting ready with Carrie that night at my house. My mom was thrilled to see that I'd made a friend and even more thrilled about the clothes. Mothers shouldn't be happy about such revealing clothes but my Mom is just excited that I'm acting like a normal teenager. Jonas agreed to give us a ride and he looked surprised when I asked him. I kind of surprised myself by asking as well.
We're in my room now and I'm dressed, shoes (Carrie and Mom said no to the Dr Martens so I'm in a pair of heels which I can thankfully walk in) on and everything and I have to admit, Carrie knows what she's doing. I look like a real teenager and for the first time, I have actual hope that my body isn't a complete failure. I'm kind of excited to see Chris now. Carrie says he'll be surprised to see me dressed like this and I can't help but hope he is, even though it sounds like a bit of a bad thing.
She takes forever doing my makeup but once she's done, we both look in the mirror, satisfied. She looks stunning in every possible way of course. There's a knock at the bedroom door and Jonas pokes his head around the door.
"You girls ready to go?" he asks.
"Yep." I say, grabbing my phone.
"When we get there, I'm gonna go and find Chris and everyone, are you guys gonna be alright?" he asks as we start driving.
"Jonas, I'm eighteen and Carrie is in your year at school." I say. "I'm sure we'll be fine."
He laughs. "Whatever."
The club is so different to the parties. It's way louder, way busier, way more fun to be honest. I don't know why. It just feels like the atmosphere is a little more on the edge. I feel that way too. Jonas gets distracted by his friends straight away and Chris isn't amongst them. Carrie's already spotted him over at the bar talking to some other friends.
"Come with me." I say, grabbing her hand and we make our way through the crowd.
I'm all ready to just say hello to him but she makes me pretend that we're ordering drinks until he notices us. She leans on the bar, talking to the bar tender, her elbows propping her up, her bum sticking out but not in an overly obvious way. She tells me to do the same so I do but it feels so unnatural. I go with it anyway and I see Chris turn his head and notice me.
"Ruby." he says and when I look at him, he's smiling at me. "I didn't know you were coming tonight."
"Yeah." I smile up at him. "Jonas told me about it so me and my friend came along."
He smiles, nodding. His eyes slowly trail up and down my body and it takes all I have not to cringe and run away or something, but the smile is still there when he looks me in the eye again.
"You look... really good, Ruby." he says.
I blush, wondering what the hell I'm supposed to say to that but luckily Carrie rushes over before I can lose the whole 'I'm actually quite composed' act.
"Let's go and dance!" she exclaims, pulling me away. Once we're well in the crowd, she grins at me. "We're gonna drive him a little crazy for tonight."
I look at her, doubtfully. "Seriously?"
"Just for tonight!" she promises. "I swear, it won't do any harm."
I just try to look cool and trust what she's saying which is easier said than done.
