Ruby's point of view
Chris, Jonas and I all sit in the living room the next morning. They're playing video games. I'm on my laptop. Well, my laptop's in front of me. I'm looking anxiously at Chris, nibbling my lip. He'll glance over at me occasionally. I have no idea how we're supposed to do this.
"Chris, are you coming surfing again later with everybody?" Jonas asks, not taking his eyes away from the screen.
"Uh, no man." he says. My heart drops. Here we go.
"What?" Jonas frowns, still playing the video game. "Don't be stupid man, come on."
"No." Chris sighs, turning the game off. "Jonas, I've gotta talk to you."
Jonas stares at him. "Alright..."
"Actually, we've gotta tell you something." Chris says, walking over to me and pulling me gently off of the sofa and holding my hand.
Jonas' eyes widen and then his entire face drops and he holds his head in his hands. "Oh Jesus Christ you guys."
"Don't get mad, just hear us out." Chris says, pulling me a little bit closer. I'm not saying anything. I'm terrified to. "Jonas, we really, really... we love each other."
"How did this even happen?" Jonas demands, looking at us both. "When did you two even talk properly?"
"Jonas." I sigh.
"Was it before or after you had a weird obsession for Jason?" he glares at me.
I feel the colour drain from my face and Chris squeezes my hand. "Jonas, that's not fair."
"Do you just have a thing for all of my friends?" he raises an eyebrow and then looks at Chris. "I wouldn't get your hopes up mate, she'll be after another one of my friends before you know it."
"Oh, shut up." Chris snaps.
Jonas raises his eyebrows and laughs a shocked, bitter laugh. "Seriously? Seriously, you've been my best friend for years and now you're gonna completely forget that because you've got a weird thing going with my sister? And you." he looks at me. "You're so desperate to seem cool and popular that you're gonna act like a slut until you go out with one of my friends."
"Shut the hell up." Chris says in a low voice, letting go of my hand. I feel dizzy. Jonas has never ever been so mean to me. I knew this would upset him but not this much. Maybe we shouldn't have told him. But then I think of people finding out about what happened with Jason and it feels worth it.
Jonas smirks. "Whatever."
He grabs his phone and saunters out of the house, so casually, but his cheeks and ears are red. Chris and I both sigh heavily and look at each other. It's another one of those moments where we have no idea what to do.
