My boy with the bread

Just a random story about Katniss and Peeta, the best pairing ever. Um, really bad at summarys when I don't know what the book is about yet. :) It's a mystery come on a journey with me to find out. :)

3. Pain

Katniss's POV

As I fall I scream. My whole world turns dark. Before I pass out I feel Haymitch pick me up.

When I wake up I see Peeta's blue eyes looking down on me. "Hi." I say.

"Hello, beautiful." I blush when he says this.

"What happened?"

"Haymitch says you fell out of a tree. You sprained your ankle. Got a concussion. The interviews are in a few minutes."

"Well, then, lets get ready." I say trying to get up.

"Let me help you. Effie picked this out for you." He holds out a white knee length, sleeveless dress and some fancy boots.

We walk downstairs and the interviews have already started. Prim is up right now.

"What's it like to be back from the dead?" Caesar asks.

"Well, Caesar, it's great seeing my sister and mom again. I was with my dad. It was good to see him again too."

When she's done Peeta goes up. I'm next. When he's done I go up. "It's good to see you again." Caesar says. "I wish I could say the same." I think.

"You too." I say forcing a smile onto my face.

In the middle of the interview Willow comes running in. "Mommmyyy!!!" She screams jumping up onto my lap.

"Hi baby girl. Caesar, meet Willow. Willow, this is Caesar."

"Hi." Willow says before running away again. Peeta comes in breathless.

"She went that way." I say pointing to the hallway. He gives me a thumbs up before running after her.

That night Caesar heads back to the capital. We all sit outside on this fine summer evening. We all sit in a circle. "So, Jo, anything you want to tell us?" I ask.

"I don't think so."

"Are you sure?"

"Fine. I'm pregnant."

"Congratulations." Peeta and I say at the same time.

"What are we going to do with you?" Haymitch asks.

"I'm not sure." I say smiling.

"I know what I'm going to do with Katniss." Effie says.

"No. No piercings, no dying any part of me, nothing, I'm fine the way I am." I say.

"Not even a small piercing?"

We take turns asking questions about each other.

It's Mrs. Mellark's turn. "Katniss, why are you and Peeta always touching each other?"

"Well, it's more of a subconscious thing-"

"Making sure the other person is still there." Peeta finished for me.

"And to make sure they are still okay." Haymitch adds.

"Why wouldn't they still be there?" Mrs. Mellark asks.

"There is a lot of reasons, yet there are none at all. After going through the games twice and a war and you lose more than you gained, you don't want to lose the people you love."

"More than you already have." Peeta adds.

Willow walks over to me and lays on my lap. "Are you tired?" I ask and she nods. I pick her up and take her up to bed.

"Will you sing for me?" She asks.

Yes. Deep in the meadow, under the willow,
A bed of grass, a soft green pillow
Lay down your head, and close your sleepy eyes
And when you wake, the sun will rise

Here it's safe, and here it's warm
Here the daisies guard you from every harm
Here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true
Here is the place where I love you.

Deep in the meadow, hidden far away
A cloak of leaves, a moonbeam ray
Forget your woes and let your troubles lay
And when again it's morning, they'll wash away

Here it's safe, and here it's warm
Here the daisies guard you from every harm
Here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true
Here is the place where I love you." By the end of the song Peeta is in the room and Willow is asleep.

"You have a beautiful voice." He whispered to me as we walked downstairs.

"No I don't."

"Yes you do."

I'm still shaking my head when we get outside. "Sweetheart, stop being stubborn and listen to the boy." I scowl at him.

"How do you know?"

"Your daughter sleeps with the window open. And anytime someone complements you. You deny it." I scowl at him some more. "Fine, be stubborn."

"I will."
"Why?" Mrs. Mellark asks.

"Why not."

"It gets her into trouble, but it also saves her, and the boy." Haymitch says.

"It also gets a cut across your forehead." Peeta says to me tracing where Clove cut me all those years ago.

"Why the nicknames?"

"Well, mentoring, you'd rather give them a nickname then learn their real name." Haymitch sighs. "I didn't know that sweetheart would be a fighter. I didn't know that she didn't want to watch the boy die. Who am I kidding, she didn't know herself."

"But it wasn't just me, I wouldn't have been able to pull it off without Haymitch and Peeta's help." When I finish the TV starts beeping loudly and I run in there to see what's going on.

Paylor is on the screen. "Hello everyone. Starting next week, fences will be put up, punishments will happen, peacekeepers, only victor's will be allowed to travel between  and the Games might start again. Thank you." And she's gone.

I walk outside, "they're going to build fences, punish us, peacekeepers, only victor will be allowed to travel, oh and my favorite," I say my voice thick with sarcasm, the Games might start again."

"What? They can't do that." Peeta says.

"They are."

"The capital probably got bored." Haymitch says bringing his flask up to his lips.

"Willow will be in the games. That would be good entertainment, she's the child of not one, but two victors." I sigh tears rolling down my cheek.

"Paylor wouldn't do that. If the games do start I'll figure something out." Haymitch says hugging me. Peeta, Haymitch, and I stand there hugging for sometime. "We should all get as much sleep as possible. I have a feeling that tomorrow will be a big day."
