The next morning I woke up in the guest bedroom at Marx with snowball curled into my side. I let out a relaxed sigh before sitting up. I actually got to sleep through the night.
I pat snowballs head before placing her on the ground and heading downstairs with her close behind me. Marx had already left for school and I had nothing to do. I was suspended for two days. I told Mrs. Thomas that I would take Leara and Evaleen to the park and she smiled at me grateful before heading to get Evaleen's stroller.
I sat at a bench watching Leara as she played and glancing at Evaleen who was next to me in her stroller playing with one of her toys. After awhile I glanced around the park huffing in annoyance when my eyes landed on a not far from mine to where Micheal Clifford making out with a different girl than he was earlier this week.
I turn my attention back to Marx sisters not wanting to think about the boy sitting not far from me. Leara was building houses in the sand. I glance down at my phone for a few seconds to answer my texts for Marci and Stiver. Marx had told them what happened so they were freaking out and letting me know they were going to be at Marx after school to see me. I smile texting them that I'd like that and hit send. Just as they went through someone sat down next to me. I glance up meeting Micheals eyes.
"Hey" He says with a grin. I just stare at him annoyed.
"What do you want" I groan but he ignores me glancing at my cheek.
"What happened" Micheal asks his face showing worry.
"Don't ask" I say turning to look back at Leara.
"Her daddy through a bottle at her and gave her a booboo" Leara tells him and I send her a glare though I'm not really mad at her. Micheal glances from her back to me. His eyes showing more worry than before.
"Are you okay" He asks reaching his hand up and running his hand over my scar. I smack his hand away trying to ignore the amazing feeling I got from him touching me.
"Why do you care" I ask and he sighs. His face thoughtful.
"I don't know" He whispers and glances to the ground. I suddenly feel guilty for snapping at him and place my hand on his shoulder. He glances up at me quickly with an expression I couldn't read.
"I'm sorry" I say and he just smiles.
"You don't have to be. It was none of my business. I just don't like the thought of someone hurting you. It makes me mad" He moves his hand to mine that's on his shoulder giving it a squeeze. I smile at him in thanks. We sat silently for a few minutes watching Leara.
"Why do you use girls like you do. Don't you want someone that makes you happy. Someone that loves you" I ask him. I had been wondering for so long that it felt like a weight was lifted just asking.
"Love isn't real. It's just something people say and go back on" He says looking at the ground again. I felt bad for him then. How can he believe there's no such thing. Has someone treated him that badly.
"I think it is. You just have to find that person that makes you feel like no one else can. That you would do anything for and they would do the same. The person that you know no matter what will always be there and you in return" I say to him. Hoping that some of what I'm saying will stick. Seeing him upset bothers me. I send him one more smile before getting up and calling Leara over heading out of the park.
"Ashlyn" I hear behind me and turn to glance at him. His smile making my stomach flip.
"Thank you" He says and I nod returning his smile.
As I head out of the park and back toward Marx I think of Micheal. His cute smile his beautiful eyes his dyed green hair his tall lean figure. I sigh as I think over what he said. I wish he could believe in love the way I do.
