She closed her eyes as she fell, it felt like forever. They say before you die, your life flashes in front of your eyes. She was waiting, but it never came. She peaked her eyes open and say the sold ground like 3 feet down. She clenched her fists and slammed her eyes shut, waiting for the impact. She felt 2 hands grab her side and set her on the mattresses. She flung her eyes open and turned her head, but all she saw was..... "THUD!" Emily fell to the ground, passed out.
"BEEP, BEEP,BEEP!" the sounds rang inside Emily's ear. She slowly opened her eyes to a white ceiling. "Yes, Emily Coleman is doing fine." a lady said. Emily turned her head, she saw a glass window, a couch, the door and a monitor. She knew where she was, she was in the hospital. She felt something in her hand, she raised it up to see it was a button, the button they use to get a nurse to come. Emily slammed her thumb against the red button. She heard 6 loud dings. The nurse who was talking to the man turned her head to see that Emily was awake. She said goodbye and walked over to Emily. "Glad to see you are awake again." She smiled giving Emily a cup. "Again?"
Emily was so confused of where she was. "Yes, Emily, you have, now drink up. Your books will be here soon." the nurse smiled again. Oh thats right, I have been here for 2 months already. Emily remembered. She remembered her going in for the first time. She needed a lung transplant because she breathed in some bad gas in the warehouse. How could she forget? She was forgetting a lot these days but thats because she doesn't need anything to remember. Emily took a sip from the cup and tried to remember that day. She had only 3 pieces of information
1. She was going to Allison's
2. She was in a warehouse
3. She needed new lungs.
She smiled of how could she was doing. She then noticed the pile of cards on the table next to her bed. She grabbed them and started to read them
Hope you get your lung soon.
There was tons of cards like that. Emily felt the tears going down her cheek."Here are your new books." the nurse laughed as she walked in with a box. Emily loved to read and she wanted the goal of reading 100 books before the end of the year. She had already read 67 and so she needed around 40 more. "So we have, The Book Theif, Divergent, How to Kill a Mockingbird, The Fault in our Stars, If I stay, I will Shield you and my favorite, the Hunger Games." she smiled as she handed Emily the books. Emily turned over "I will Shield you."
She looked about the author. "Ellie, huh."
The nurse nodded. "Yes, she is a personal favorite of mine."
She smiles and look to "The Book Thief."
"I want this one." Emily giggled. The nurse grabbed the other books and set them on the table. Emily opened the book and started to read. " First the colors, then the humans,Thats usually how I see things, or at least I try."
Emily read. Not noticing the man in the doorway.
